Video Transcript for Westin Oval Tube Steps Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be checking out the line of Westin Oval Tube Steps, and these are available in a black powder coated finish like we have here today, as well as a polished stainless. So you got a couple of choices to choose from. When it comes to picking out a set of tube steps, you know, there's a ton of different options out there and, you know, it really, what one is gonna be best for you is really just gonna depend on what you're trying to accomplish, you know, are you looking strictly for functionality, you know, that's your biggest concern, helping you get in and out of the vehicle. Or are you looking more for an appearance upgrade, you know, visually speaking, or a little bit of both. You know, you want 'em to look good and be functional.

So with this setup here, I feel like you kind of get the best of both worlds. Kinda just a classic design, almost. So, especially on a pickup truck, really can't go wrong. You know, they don't look out of place at all. And being that the step pad is four inches wide, they're definitely still gonna be functional and help you get in and out of the truck.

So, like I said, with these ones, you know, gives you a decent platform to give you somewhere to put your foot and make it a little easier to get in and, you know, do people use these getting out, somewhat. I feel like it's a good habit to get into though, because what I've noticed without a running board or a tube step, what you tend to do is kind of swing out and drag your bottom across the corner of your seat. And when you do that over time, it ends up just chewing up the, you know, the corner of your seat and causing it to split or crack. And so, you know, if, especially if you got a newer vehicle, you get in the habit of actually using that tube step and putting your weight on it, it'll really help save, you know, the corners of your seats. So like I said, these ones are kind of middle of the road in terms of you know, how they're gonna look and the functionality.

If you're focused more on the appearance, what I'm a fan of is a running board. They usually sit up tight and almost flush to the bottom of the rocker there and I think they look really good. You do typically lose a little functionality with those though, you know, because they're just so tight, usually don't have this wide of a step to actually get up and on, but you know, that's entirely up to you, what you're trying to get done. And then if you're looking for, you know, awesome looks and excellent functionality, there's some motorized running boards and we've been doing quite a bit of them lately. The Aries set, they seem to work out really well.

It'll almost look factory, right. And then whenever you open the door, they swing way down and give you about a foot or so, if I had to guess, to work with and get it that much closer to the ground. So if you got a really big vehicle, or a lifted vehicle or something like that, those will definitely help you out and you know, go a long way in terms of getting you in and out. These are gonna come with the brackets that you need to actually mount 'em up to your particular vehicle and so they are custom fit and so my advice would be use our fit guide and just double check, make sure you have your vehicle's information in there correctly because tube steps will be in different lengths, you know, to accommodate different cab sizes and then get to realizing hey, the tube step's too long or too short. So I see it quite a bit so I just want to kind of touch base on that, double check what your vehicle actually is, get it punched into our site there and that way you get what you need the first time. As far as the, you know, construction quality of these, definitely not bad. We've had decent luck with with Westin, you know, the pads feel like they're attached on there good, kind of a harder plastic, you know, you have your tread design in there to help give you a little bit of traction. And one thing I noticed with these, compared to some of the other ones, these ones aren't gonna be completely sealed so you can actually kinda reach underneath there so you might, you know, expect a little bit of snow or mud or something to get packed in there over time. Not a huge deal, you know, but just wanted to mention that 'cause there are some other designs that are completely sealed. So this might hold up a little bit longer but it's just gonna depend on your driving style and the conditions you're in and everything else. I think what'll help a little bit though, is there are these rounded end caps, so it's kind of a finishing touch, makes it look a little bit better, but that should help kind of prevent, you know, some of that spray and stuff coming off your wheels from actually getting inside of our tube step. As far as the installation goes, you know, every vehicle's gonna be set up a little bit different but generally speaking, you know, parts like this are pretty straightforward. Being that they use the custom-fit brackets a lot of 'em will utilize factory attachment points that are already, you know, underneath the vehicle or factory holes that are already there that you can use to mount these up. So you know, generally speaking I'm not gonna take you a lot of time or give you too much headache or, you know, require any type of custom work or things of that nature. Other than that though, you know, not really a whole lot to it. Pretty decent set of tube steps if, you know, you're looking for a way to kind of dress up your vehicle and give you a little bit of help getting in and out. Definitely some stuff they considered. And that'll finish up our look at of the line of Westin oval tube steps.
