Advent Air Dometic Plug-In

This AC unit from Advent Air is designed to replace the old or broken Dometic air conditioner on your RV or camper. It plugs directly into your Dometic setup and works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Dometic air distribution box and thermostat. This eliminates the need of an adapter wiring kit, which saves you time and effort. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace your AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 15,000 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

Advent Air Warranty Coverage

2-Year limited warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.

If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), youll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

by:

My Dometic had a leak after 6 years. I decided to replace it with this Advent and couldn’t be happier. Total install time by myself was about an hour and a half including the soft start install. I watched a couple of videos which helped greatly. It’s shown here with the old unit in front. I’ve had it for about 2 days and it will take it down to 65 degrees.

by:

This was a great upgrade unite coming form a 13K and Very easy install. To the people that are are doing the install them selves, go get a 1/4" Torque wrench and Torgue the mounting bolts down equally. If the instructions say torque to 4LBS then take it to 2 lb then 3 then 4 or 5Lbs... You will not leak that way

by:

Box was a little beat up And one small debt in cover. Overall it needs a little bit more cushion or packaging around the back end of the unit

It does look like it had a bumpy ride. Customer Service will be in touch with you. Stay frosty.

by:

Installation was super easy! We ran it all last summer with absolutely no issues whatsoever! When our other AC unit finally quits, I'll definitely buy another Advent from eTrailer!!!!

by:

When it arrived on time the box was undamaged. When opened the base was bent on 3 side and the left rear corner of the cover was cracked. Was able to straighten the base will have to live with the crack. As noted, the box was undamaged. Installation was simple and straight forward.

by:

Easy to install, straight swap for the old unit. It provided very good airflow to the front and back of the RV and cooled well also.
Actually didn't require the start capacitor to work with our Onan generator.
Product arrived with cosmetic damage.
Prepare the roof area and clear all debris (1)
Situate the upper unit and offer up the internal frame (2) Adjust position slightly if needed.
Carefully select the internal steel duct height to suit your roof thickness - shown in (3) un-compresssed.
Cinch down all four mounting bolts evenly to compress the foam gasket sufficiently without over-tightening (4)

by:

Shipping was very fast... Thank you. However, quite a bit of minor damage was done to my unit during shipping. The base plate of the entire unit had a HUGE indentation where it was probably dropped on something and I was able to bend everything back with a large hammer. Also the foam insulative protection around the condensor was ripped away from its mount and cracked in half. I repaired it with silicon seal. You guys really need to do something about shipping damage. I haven't installed the unit yet and am keeping my fingers crossed hoping it will work as intended.

by:

I have used this unit for a year and have not had any problems with it. I had a Dometic that quit after 3 years. This unit is a little louder than the Dometic but it has a stronger air flow and seems to cool the RV better. The Dometic lower unit connected to the Advent top unit with no problems.

by:

2 stars for UPS as the AC was delivered damaged. It was transported with the back end down because the compressor was tilted to the back and the accumulator was touching the condenser housing. I was able to straighten the base at the compressor supports and get the compressor back perpendicular to the base and get 1/4" space for the accumulator. The front of the base has a dent which is only cosmetic. The white shroud has a small dimple where the top of the compressor came in contact with the shroud. Something was put on top of the box to force the shroud to hit the compressor.
3 stars for Advent for having no instructions with the unit, insufficient packaging for motor freight, insufficient warnings for keeping the unit upright, and a noisy compressor. Although the squirrel cage blower has a 5 mm wobble, it manages to run smooth. Seams to perform OK and time will tell if it can out last Dometic. I have had 2 Dometic units, first lasted 3 years and the last one 6 years.
Note most people would not notice the compressor noise, but I have ducted discharge and ducted return air.
4 stars for e-trailer for being easy to order and helpful with technical questions. They do not know everything, but did get me Advent technical support for help. Order status was inaccurate, it showed a 2 week shipping delay and then it was shipped with only 1/2 week delay.

by:

Arrived quickly. Fit perfectly. No damage to container. It took about 2 hours to change out. Fired right up. This unit was more btus and half the weight of my old 1995 original unit. Good stuff. My relay board was bad as well but I replaced it with a new Stat and 2 12v PAM relays plus 1 120v RIB relay. Works better then the relay board and old Stat ever did.

by:

Unit arrived Thursday and start capacitor Friday. Installed on my RV today (Saturday) and seems to be working great. It is 106 degrees and the camper is nice and cool. I did have one issue as the compressor looks like the mount is bent a little and the copper line going to the condenser was rubbing against the cover. I bent the line to prevent this. Well pleased with the price.

by:

REPLACED MY 20 YEAR OLD DUO-THERM DOMETIC ac UNITS-
i HAVE THE LISTED AIR TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER- IN LESS THAN 90 MINUTES, INSTALLED NEW UNIT AND RUNNING. PLUG AND PLAY UNIT- WORKS PERFECTLY

by:

The Advent unit isn’t a direct replacement as the mounting holes are not aligned. The Advent unit requires you to purchase their cover kit which will have the correct trim ring to secure the unit to the trailer roof. After acquiring all the necessary parts it went well

by:

Make two hand hole one for each of the box. I put a rope around the box and pull on to the roof no problem then I took out box

by:

Beware. Not direct plug and play. If you are replacing dometic and have a ducted only ac running off a thermostat controller, the unit will not work. You must buy an adapter which “may” work or buy the interior unit as well. If you don’t have the interior cutout for the controller they do not have any version of a wall mount controller.

Advent acknowledge the information on here for being a direct replacement is wrong and say they have told etrailer to correct. My suggestion is avoid at all costs and go with whatever original brand you have, the few dollars saved are not worth the crapshoot.

by:

The AC unit arrived 2 days early! Customer service contacted me before I even picked it up at the post office to ask if I needed anything! It has been a long long time since I have been so pleased with a company, of any sort!
The unit works as advertised, and was super easy to install! The unit I replaced is 25 years old, owes me nothing. I will be satisfied if this one lasts half as long, lol.
Thank you so much!

Nick

Great! And for the record, this unit is used year-round! Never put in storage, someone occupies the RV always. Been a year and it has been completely hassle-free! Just the basic maintenance, I clean it every few months.

by:

I was amazed at how fast it got to my door. Josh was great and extremely knowledgeable about what my choices were. This unit was simple to install once I got it on the roof and a simple plug and play replacing my old Dometic AC.

by:

The unit arrived in good shape and with all parts. easy to install except for wiring. interface. My RV has dual units, but was successful and it works great !

by:

It showed up a little beat up, I appreciate the free shipping, but I would have paid for it to not show up dented up. I don’t know if any of the lifespan of the unit has been compromised due to the mishandling. Also, it came with zero hardware, which , let’s face it, you can never have enough of.

So far so. A little loud, but what can you expect in a motorhome.

by:

Very easy to install, just plug and play. I wish it were a bit quieter but all on all an improvement over the ac unit it replaced.

by:

Plug and play, 45 min to install!!!

by:

Very quick delivery. Installation was very easy with simple bolt on replacement and direct plug in of wiring. Unit works excellent!

by:

It was direct replacement for Dometic. Worked great!
