Advent Air Dometic Plug-In

This AC unit from Advent Air is designed to replace the old or broken Dometic air conditioner on your RV or camper. It plugs directly into your Dometic setup and works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Dometic air distribution box and thermostat. This eliminates the need of an adapter wiring kit, which saves you time and effort. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace your AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 15,000 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

Advent Air Warranty Coverage

2-Year Warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.

If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), youll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

Easy to install, straight swap for the old unit. It provided very good airflow to the front and back of the RV and cooled well also.
Actually didn't require the start capacitor to work with our Onan generator.
Product arrived with cosmetic damage.
Prepare the roof area and clear all debris (1)
Situate the upper unit and offer up the internal frame (2) Adjust position slightly if needed.
Carefully select the internal steel duct height to suit your roof thickness - shown in (3) un-compresssed.
Cinch down all four mounting bolts evenly to compress the foam gasket sufficiently without over-tightening (4)

I upgraded from my Dometic 13500 Brisk 2 to the Advent 15000. The installation was flawless, but, the installation is not entirely seamless.
My Dometic had a two speed fan while the Advent 15000 has a three speed fan. I believe that the Advent is running on the medium and low speed. The unit cannot defeat the Florida heat. At 99F the unit only dropped the temp 8 degrees. The air at the registers seem to be cold, but, the airflow was not what I expected from the 15000 unit. I’m hoping that the Advent ACTH12 thermostat will work. It doesn’t appear that etrailer sells them without the AC cover. Without the initial high airflow to defeat the heat, this unit will not make muster in the south.
To be fair, I’m giving a 5 for the customer service and swift shipping. All the guys got me this far, they are terrific. I submitted a question for the additional information needed to get it right. I checked all the QA&A and comments for anyone that has experienced my problem. A couple fellows upgraded but said it was all good without mentioning the three speed difference. My guess is that they live in a cooler climate or don’t realize the 15000 has three speeds.
If I get the Advent thermostat and it solves my problem I will readdress my comment and also update the Q&A page.

Comments
Good:It’s still working great over this summer in 90+ degree weather. Bad: Heavy rain began entering the coach past the AC seal last month. Tightening up the four mounts had no help to the point of distorting the interior ceiling. I went to Ace Hardware and purchased 4 flat metal angle supports, three inches long on each side of the angle and placed them between the lip of the unit and ceiling to give additional strength to the ceiling. It was genius on my part. I was able to tighten the mounts more and stop the leak without distorting the ceiling and they were the perfect width and do not show. The seal had taken a set at the original compression point and I am afraid I will be required to retighten again in the future. Ugly: At some point soon I think the seal will need replacing and when I cross that bridge I hope there is one available and of better quality. The alternative may be using a recommended sealant between the seal and roof which will require loosening the mounts to wedges to open a space to allow sealant to flow between the seal and roof. Sealing on initial installation with sealant may not be a good idea by adding additional work a year or so after installation while on the road somewhere.

Yes the thermometer and plenum was the answer. The unit now operates as advertised and does well in bringing down and maintaining a cooler temperature. Happy Campers

This unit is a great cost effective replacement for Dometic. I upgraded from a 13.5k BTU unit to the 15k BTU. There is a great deal of difference in power and air flow, and in my single AC unit RV, solved the cooling issue that I had with the smaller stock unit. The only negatives are that the unit was slightly dented from shipping, however, I have lived with it. The other issue is that the unit worked great for a couple of months with my Dometic wall thermostat and ceiling distribution box, then recently, the fan has decided not to cycle off. I tried the standard fixes which did not work. I have since ordered the Advent Air Distribution Box w/ Wall Thermostat from etrailer (which is on back order) in hopes that this will solve the problem. If this had not occurred, I'd probably have given the unit 5 stars. Hopefully, this will solve the control problem when I eventually get and install it.

A great replacement for my Dometic unit that was worn out. I upgraded from 13,500 btu to 15,000 with this unit. Installation was pretty straight forward. Like others have pointed out, this unit has 3 fan speeds, while the previous unit only had two. To be able to use all 3 speeds, the thermostat also needs to be upgraded. The only other point of note from the installation was the 12v wire that runs between the AC and the furnace. Since my thermostat handles both furnace and AC, there is a small wire between the 2 units. My old unit had two 12v wires, while the new unit only uses one 12v wire. I was able to open the front of my furnace to see what color was hooked to “hot” to see which color should be hookup up on the ceiling unit. Worst case you might have to pick a color and try it out to be sure you have the correct 12v wire hooked up.

The AC blew up before I had a chance to install the Start Capacitor, I had to buy a Furrion kit from [online].. Not sure what happened the AC had a little cosmetic damage when I received it, the cover had a small crack and the metal base had a little dent, I was able to fix with a little tape and pull the dent out by hand. With all the hassle of getting a SC delivered being full time RVrs it wasn't worth the time to exchange it, well it literally blew up after about 1 1/2 months use.

Wow, I am sorry to hear about what happened with the AC unit. It definitely should not have blown up like that. Our customer service team will reach out to assist you.

AC fit perfectly, took 45 minutes to install. Hardest part was getting it on the roof. All the connectors matched up with the wiring from the Dometic we replaced on our 2006 Montana.
It's just as loud as the older one it replaced. The output air is 19 degrees colder than the input side.

by:

This unit was an upgrade from a 13,500 BTU. It made a huge difference in our 27ft camper. It was super easy to install. The price was great and it was shipped free to us exactly as shown on our sales invoice. No delays. I love trailer. My wife and I have made multiple purchases from them and never had an issue.

by:

Over all this is a good unit and met expections. The unit installed as stated with the existing wiring harness and mount. The overall dimensions of this unit are approximately 3 inches longer than the Dometic that it replaced (e.g. if you have a limited space due to solar panels as I do check carefully). The start Capacitor worked as intended and the start load was measure at 15.1 amps inrush. The running unit measured 14.7 amps with fan on high. The split (temperature between the return and the supply air) measured 25 degrees F and was consistent. The only negative is that unit will only run on two fan speeds with the existing Dometic thermostat not the three it is capable of.

The service from the first phone call to the last was top notch! Unbelievably, there are actual people there to help answer any questions you may have and help you make the correct choice for the product in which you are looking for! unbelievably friendly, helpful and believe it or not I actually returned my phone call when I left a message! companies like this help to restore faith in humanity!

by:

Upgraded from a 13.5 to the 15k unit. Install was very straightforward and plugged straight in, only issue we've run into is that the duct system doesn't allow enough airflow for the larger unit causing it to freeze up under heavy use. Modifying the cover to allow for both ducted airflow and direct flow from the unit is something we're experimenting with to solve the problem.

by:

I ordered 13500 and 15000 btu advent units to replace my dometic units. Had 1 problem that was handled quickly, 1 unit had a cracked cover and it was replaced. Advent seem to be good but I will be able to tell more when the weather gets hot. Install was direct replacement.

by:

The Advent A/C was a piece of junk. I had to buy a Domedic after going through two separate Advents.

We replaced our 2018 13,500 air conditioner (which had a slow leak and needed recharged every year) with the Advent 15,000 Btu model. First, it arrived less than 3 full days from when I ordered it. I watched the video and read online how to replace it. It was a simple job basically 4 bolts inside holding it to the roof and plugging it in. My wife and I had it done in less than an hour. We had trouble finding how tight it should be bolted down, I was able to see under the edges and tightened it until the seal was tight against the roof on both sides - tightened each bolt the same amount of turns. I was a little leery replacing it myself, now glad I didn't pay to have it done.

by:

Haven't had to use it yet but did a quick test. Seems to work well. Unit was delivered much sooner than expected so that was great. The install was simple. Took me longer to figure out how to get the 100 lb box on the roof by myself than to actually install it. Install took about 30 minutes as a direct plug & play for my Dometic DuoTherm. Soft start was easy to add on as well.

This is not my first purchase from Etrailer & will not be my last. I didn't need help with this item but the staff is always so helpful when I do need them.customer service is always top notch.

by:

Installation was very easy. Works great. Our factory unit struggled with the 30ft BHS, but this gave it that little extra power it needed.

by:

The package come in a day early , so I like that the box itself wasn’t damaged but the unit had a nice little dent on the bottom , didn’t seem to affect the operation of the unit. As the description states it’s a plug and play for the old dometic We installed the QuickStart , which only took a few minutes. I’ve read reviews on how loud the advent is and in our rv its 10x quieter then the 2 year old dometic that it replaced. We let it run for about 3 hours outside temp was around 78 (south Mississippi)
And the air temp coming from unit was around 53 So as the first 4 hours go we are happy with the purchase. Would by again

by:

Received this ac. Haven’t opened it. Also received capacitor for this unit. Did not receive the 13,500 unit at all

I have given this a 3 star rating with a possibility of a change when I get it installed. Unfortunately, health issues requiring immediate surgery, then getting covid while healing, put me into winter time by the time I was healthy enough to put it in. The machine looked good upon inspection, however there was shipping damage to the metal shell, which I called in about when I found it. I was able to straighten it out enough to get the top to mount tightly again, so here's to hoping! The fit, as far as I can tell, for both complete unit and wiring, seem to be identical for connections and mounting to the roof and ducts. Will know more when I get it in.

by:

This unit was plug and play from my old unit. Startup capacitor installed in about 2 minutes. Took about 30 minutes start to finish. The only difficult part was climbing the ladder to get it on the top of the rv. It is big and awkward with no good place to hold onto

by:

The AC unit arrived 2 days early! Customer service contacted me before I even picked it up at the post office to ask if I needed anything! It has been a long long time since I have been so pleased with a company, of any sort!
The unit works as advertised, and was super easy to install! The unit I replaced is 25 years old, owes me nothing. I will be satisfied if this one lasts half as long, lol.
Thank you so much!

by:

the Advent AC was as described and fit perfectly. The amazing thing is how fast it arrived. Ordered on a Thursday afternoon and arrived the following Monday. My son and I installed it on Tuesday in about an hour. thanks...

by:

I ordered this product on Wednesday and received it on Friday. That was great service. The unit was exactly what I ask for. Installation was a breeze and it was plug and play just like the knowledgeable sales person said it would be. The unit is much quieter than the old one. If this unit is as good as the service, I will be very satisfied.

by:

4 day delivery time! The AC had 2 minor dents from shipping. Once we figured out how we were going to get it on the roof we had cold hair blowing in less than 45 minutes. I'm pleased we ordered from etrailer. I know it saved a lot of down time and labor cost.

by:

Outstanding, swapped out for an old dometic. Fit like a champ.

by:

Placed my order online and almost immediately received and email that my order for black in color ac unit would not ship until June. I was given the option to change to a white unit and did so because we have trip scheduled prior to June. The unit arrived within three days from ordering. Replacement was simple and up and running in less than and hour. Very satisfied with ac unit, a lot quieter than the dometic unit it replace.

Thanks
