Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Dometic Penguin II 13,500 BTU multi-zone black RV air conditioner with heat strip. Now, this air conditioner unit is going to let you replace, upgrade, or add a new Dometic Penguin II air conditioner to your RV or camper. The low profile design is gonna help minimize wind resistance to improve fuel efficiency, and also give you additional overhead clearance. This 13,500 BTU per hour air conditioner is going to quickly and efficiently cool down the inside of your RV or camper.
This is going to be compatible with ducted or ductless systems. This is designed for motor homes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels, but I do wanna make you aware of the fact that this has not been approved for use on school buses, food trucks, and closed utility trailers, or off-roading vehicles, because, typically, the roofs on those types of of vehicles or trailers are not built with the support needed to handle the weight of an air conditioner system on the roof, or that roof will flex a little bit too much that it could potentially damage an air conditioner on the roof of those vehicles or trailers. So just so you're aware of that. This is a bolt-on installation. However, the hardware is not included with this unit for installation.
And this does require a CCC II thermostat and an air distribution box. Those items are sold separately. On your screen, I am including the part number for the thermostat that will work for this, and on the related product section of this product page, you can take a look at the air distribution boxes that will best fit your particular application. Now this is going to fit roofs from 1.5 inches to six inches thick with an opening size of 14 and a quarter inches long by 14 and a quarter inches wide. Let me give you some measurements of the unit itself.
Looking at the overall length from end to end, we're sitting at about 40.5 inches long. The overall width, again, from end to end about 29 inches wide. The overall height, about 11 and a quarter inches tall. And this air conditioner weighs in between 95 and a 100 pounds. Just to kinda give you an idea of just how heavy it is.
Now, I went ahead and removed the four Phillips head screws that secure our cover to the unit. So I could just more quickly and easily remove the cover so I could give you a view of the inside. So let me go ahead and move that cover off to the side here, and let me just give you a view here of the inside. So this air conditioner does feature a high performance motor and fan that's going to provide sufficient air flow. And then let me go ahead and give you an overhead view as well. Now, the enhanced cooling performance is going to evenly distribute cool air throughout your RV to help eliminate hot spots. The internal heat strip, and you're not gonna be able to see it, but we do have one installed inside, that heat strip's gonna help remove the chill on cold or frosty mornings. So this has quiet operation that's going to ensure a more peaceful atmosphere for you than most traditional air conditioner units. The efficient design is gonna require less refrigerant than traditional air conditioner units. It's gonna help reduce operational costs. This does use the refrigerant R410A. As you can see here, we do have these foam seals. It's gonna help prevent heat transfer. Now, let me go ahead and go for a lower view here, and I'm gonna go ahead and replace this cover. This cover is a hard plastic, (plastic thudding) so I think it's gonna be pretty durable for you. I don't think you're gonna have to worry about it easily getting cracked, or fractured, or broken, or anything like that. And as you can see, this cover slides on easily, comes off very easily. So, if you ever have to do any maintenance or cleaning, again, you'll just remove those screws, pop this cover off, do whatever maintenance you have to do inside. And then as you can see, this goes right back on very easily. Secure the screws, and you'll be good to go. But I think it's gonna do a great job of protecting the inside from water or debris, things like that. This does include a wiring harness. I wanna give you a view of it here. This is going to be tucked up underneath the front of the unit, so you'll have to pull these wires out. And this also features a ribbed metal base pan that's gonna help provide stability, reduce vibration. There's these foam-like pads here underneath as well that's gonna go in between the air conditioner and the roof of your RV. This is UL certified. And I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
