Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this Dometic Penguin II 15,000 BTU single zone white RV air conditioner with heat pump. Now this air conditioner unit is going to let you replace, upgrade, or add a new Dometic Penguin II air conditioner to your RV or camper. The ultra low profile design is going to help minimize wind resistance to improve fuel efficiency and give you additional overhead clearance. This 15,000 BTU per hour air conditioner is going to cool down the inside of your RV or camper very quickly and very efficiently. And this is going to be compatible with ducted or ductless systems.
And this is going to be designed for your motor homes, your travel trailers, and your fifth wheels. However, I do wanna point out that this is not been approved for use on food trucks, school buses, enclosed utility trailers or off-roading vehicles. The reason being is a lot of times the roofs of those vehicles or trailers don't have enough support to support an air conditioning system or will have too much flex, that if you did have an air conditioner on there it would potentially damage the air conditioner. So just so you're aware of that. This is going to be a Bolton installation.
However, the hardware is not included to install this, so that's something you'd have to pick up separately. And this also does require a thermostat and air distribution box. And on your screen I am including our part number for the thermostat that will work for this. And if you check the related products tab on this product page, there's gonna be some air distribution box options for you that you can choose that'll work best for your particular application. So this is going to pit roofs from 1 1/2 inches to six inches thick with an opening size of 14 1/4 inches long by 14 1/4 inches wide.
And just to give you some measurements of this unit itself, looking at the overall length from end to end, we're sitting about 40 1/2 inches long. And then looking at the width from end to end about 29 inches wide. And then the overall height about 11 1/4 inches tall. This air conditioner weighs anywhere between 95 and 100 pounds. And this cover is gonna be very strong, very durable for you.
I think it's gonna do a great job of resisting the elements that it's gonna be constantly exposed to protecting the inside of this from debris and water. This air conditioner does have a high performance motor and fan that's gonna help provide sufficient air flow. The enhanced cooling performance is going to evenly distribute air throughout your RV to eliminate hotspots. This does an internal heat pump that's gonna be great for cooler weather, sending warm air into your RV and pumping the chilled air out to the outside. The quiet operation's going to ensure a more peaceful atmosphere than your traditional air conditioning units. The efficient design is going to require less refrigerant than traditional air conditioning units help reducing operational costs. This does use the R-410A refrigerant. Inside underneath the cover there are foam seals to prevent heat transfer. And this cover can be easily removed. You'll just remove the four Phillips head screws around the perimeter. Then you'll just lift this cover off. You can do any cleaning and maintenance that you want, pop the cover back on, replace the screws and you'll be good to go. This does feature a metal ribbed base pan that's going to give you stability and help reduce vibration. There's foam pads underneath as well. You can see this one here that's gonna be in between the air conditioner unit and the roof of your vehicle, your trailer, or your RVs, so you have added protection there and insulation. I wanted to give you a view of the wiring harness. This is going to be stuffed up underneath the front of the air conditioner. So you'll just have to pull all of this out. And again, this is a single zone air conditioner unit and this is UL certified. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our quick look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Internal heat pump keeps you warm on cold, frosty mornings.Etrailer gives very good service. Fast shipping also. A/C unit arrived without any sign of damage. At unboxing to install, I found the fan squirrel cage jammed up against the plastic shroud on the evaporator end. At further inspection the fan motor mounting bolts were so loose they had about 1/4” slip. I had to align up the motor an torque down t bolts. Then adjust the squirrel cages on both the condenser and evaporator end ends. An allen set screw holds them to the motor shaft. Very small tolerance for movement on shaft to avoid fan rubbing shroud. I’ve read reviews on this unit that state these issues. Quality control is lacking in assembly. Shouldn’t have to fix a brand new unit. Pretty sure warranty doesn’t cover “ adjustments”. This review doesn’t reflect badly on Etrailer but it does on Dometic. Installation completed and it’s cooling as it should. Hope it continues to. Glad I can do stuff without paying a couple hundred bucks an hour to someone.

Overall the A/C unit works good. etrailer was great to work with and shipping was faster than expected. However, Dometic could use some QA and QI within their company. The blower motor on this unit was not completely bolted down and the fans where loose on the shafts. At first, the blower motor would not even turn the fans due to binding against the housings. If you are going to install a unit like this, please check before start up. Other than that, the unit cools/heats and only pulls 14 amps.
