Solera RV Slide Topper Awning

Without a slide-topper, the roof of your slide-out room is continually exposed and can accumulate leaves and bugs and different types of debris. That debris can build up along the rubber strip at the top of your box, preventing a firm seal when your slide-out is retracted. Rain water can then get in and pool on the top of your slide-out. If you don't clear the water off each time it rains, mold can begin to form. And when your slide-out is pulled in, that mold gets inside your RV.

Solera RV Slide Topper Awning

The Solera RV slide-out awning alleviates those problems by serving as a protective covering over the top of your RV's slide-out. Not only does it prevent debris from collecting on the roof of your slide-out, but it keeps water from pooling and potentially causing damage down the road. Because it mounts directly to the front of the slide box, the slide-out awning is able to automatically extend and retract every time the slide-out room is extended or retracted.

Durable Vinyl Fabric

Solera RV slide out awning fabric

The durable awning fabric holds up to the rigors of the outdoors. It's made of premium 13.5-oz vinyl, which is an upgrade over the 10-oz fabric used in many awnings. This fabric also features heat-welded seams to prevent leaks. And it is made to withstand cold temperatures down to -25 degrees Fahrenheit, so it won't crack or degrade during the winter.

Simple Installation

Use the self-tapping screws to secure the included access plate to the side of your slide-out, positioning the plate at the bottom of the T-molding. The two access brackets slide easily onto the access plate's track. The rods that are located at each end of the roller tube, which comes with the awning fabric already mounted, slide through the hole in the two access brackets.

The included awning rail is used to anchor the other side of the fabric to your RV. This rail can be mounted up to 5" above the trim on top of your slide box.

Installation was fairly easy but I think the instructions could be more explained for each step
Mine is 14’ long so it sag’s in the middle.
I think the spring is strong enough so the material won’t flap in the wind but that remains to be seen.

Comments
There are a few things you can try to tighten up your awning, but the tensioner will not have a manual adjuster, unfortunately. First, I suggest checking all your bolts and or screws to make sure they are all this tight. If they have loosened over time, it can cause some droopage. Next, you can pull the awning off and let it unwind. This sounds highly counterintuitive, but it will then allow you to roll it back up. The tension may have loosened as well and this can sometimes tighten things up a bit. The only other thing Lippert, who is the parent company of Solera Awnings, has recommended is to open the awning all the way on a warm or hot day and then wetting the fabric with cold water and then letting it fully dry for 15 minutes. This can help tighten up the fabric some times.

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

I called to make sure that the topper I am ordering is going to be the matching one to the ones we have on our 5th wheel. The gentleman told me for sure that it was the one with the round ends on the roller and when we received it yesterday that the end cap was missing and the attachment plate is bent and it’s the wrong one it’s got plastic caps oval shaped on the ends which is not the one that I made sure of to get. Also we expected a lot better experience from e trailer. We would like to know how to fix the problem of the package not being closed, the bent attachment and the wrong roller and hardware from the one I asked for. Please call us as soon as possible cause of our work schedule.

Comments
I can certainly understand your disappointment with the topper that was received. Customer service will be in touch with you as soon as possible to assist you.

The package arrived with some damage. The awning rail is bent in in one place and both access brackets will need to be filed so the access plates will slide on. Not sure what the screw is for.

Pretty easy to install, but you definitely need 2 people to mount the rail and the actual awning. 75% of it can be done alone and then just get a helper for the rail and awning. The video that is provided by etrailer was very helpful. Instructions were good. Read them over a couple of times before you start.

Comments
It has held up great and still looks good. Works perfectly.

etrailer was awesome. I was on the phone with a tech giving dimensions of my slide outs of my camper, the tech got the right toppers and shipped it out to me. I was cautious ordering online, but etrailer made it easy and I trust that they have my best interest to have my business. Slide toppers we easy to install by myself

Start at 5-stars.
Awning arrived damaged.
That may be the sellers fault or it could have been damaged by the shipper. Now 4-1/2 stars
etrailer sent out a new replacement part that arrived quickly. Back at 5-stars.
Unfortunately there was no instructions in the package regarding how to safely change this spring loaded part. After contacting etrailer requesting info on how to change the part, they had no clue. I was told to contact Lippert. Remove 2-stars.
Final Rating of 3 Average stars. Nothing special about etrailer. They did not go above and beyond average…but could have by sending or at least having detailed information regarding how to safely replace this spring loaded part.

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

Our slide out awning was damaged when we were hit by a 65 mph side wind while driving, we contacted etrailer and they were able to match our Lippert Awning with the correct replacement. We set up scaffolding because it was easier then two 70 plus amateur’s hanging off of ladders! Easy reading instructions and lots of pictures in the directions. I had no doubt that if we needed help we could have called etrailer. 2 hours later it was done! I hope it never happens again but if it does I know who to call!!! Thanks etrailer

Perfect fit for my Coachmen Clipper 17BHS slide out. Install was easy with the etrailer install video! They cover every step in the video and explain assembly better than the supplied instructions. Works great at keeping out the leaves, hoping it works to help keep water out of the slide out seams too.

Folks, E-trailer is the place to order. I have ordered Air bags for my truck and now have ordered two separate slide out awnings for my 5th wheel. Best price around and good service. Awning was back order so had to wait til it was in stock and they shipped it out as soon as they got it in. Great organization and they are in America. Thanks E-trailer.

Very easy installation. Be sure to count all your fasteners. Someone doesn't know how to count....I had to make a trip to the store. But very pleased with product.

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

While we love the slide out on our travel trailer, that is nothing but a potential problem. Leaves and debris lay on top and eventually prevent a good seal when closed, water pooling and potential leaking...and the list goes on.

We made the decision to buy and self install the Solera Slide Topper. The topper arrived in a large, well packed cardboard tube. All parts were present. It took my wife and I about 1:45 minutes to complete the installation. We are super pleased with how it turned out and have no complaints at all. Once again...eTrailer to the rescue!

I will note a couple of things that buyers/installers need to be aware of. While none of these are a deal breaker...knowledge is power. Some of the hardware (screws) are not painted black. After installation, I took a can of black spray paint and sprayed a little in a paper cup and used a Q-tip to apply the paint to the unpainted heads. The other thing is the tension. Wow...that is one strong spring! I found that the tension was so tight that it actually prevented the top of the slide out from fully extending. I knew this because before installing it I actually felt how tight the inside seal was against the interior wall when the slide was out. After the install I could easily slip my fingers between the inside trailer wall and the slideout seal. I ended up unwinding the spring by two full turns. After that, the slideout seal was firm against the interior wall! Yea! The awning itself was still very taunt and without sag.

A word of caution about removing the spring keeper pin or unwinding the arm. Make sure you FULLY understand what you are doing. That is NOT something you want to mess up on. While we had no problems in doing this...I am familiar with spring loaded rotational forces and understand the instant damage they can do!

Very pleased...and would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for an inexpensive way to cover and protect your slide out!

Comments
Our slide-out awning is still functioning perfectly. Since I had loosened the tension a bit I was concerned about it maintaining good tension over time. No problem. Still perfect! There is no noted degradation of the canopy or hardware. Thanks!

2019 3811ms Montana. These were easy to install, and all three went up in one day. No more worries of water standing or leaves when closing up trailer. I highly recommend this product! Had one issue with a damaged awning when it arrived, etrailer was very helpful and had a new one sent out promptly.

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

A friend and I installed this topper today on a Winnebago 2101DS travel trailer. It took a little over one hour and we didn't run into any real problems. One thing the instructions said to do was to mount the hex aluminum bar in the end bracket using a self tapping 1/4-20 screw. Seemed almost impossible to do so I used a 1/4-20 tap. Worked fine.
Once the slide topper is squared away and goes in and out properly the paper instructions want you to install a black self tapping screw in the fabric slot within 1" of the end of the fabric. I didn't like the idea of running the screw through the fabric. I had some black tubing from another project which I used for the block to keep the slide fabric from moving.
The topper seems to be high quality and certainly will provide additional protection from the elements. This is definitely a two man job and my friend was great help. When we were sliding the fabric into the slide topper rail we found the best way was for me to be on the roof supporting the topper while my friend guided the fabric into the rail slot.

I assume it has been working well but I dont know since we traded the trailer for a larger one last April.

Very easy installation, but definitely a two person job with the longer ones. The longer the cover the more it will sag on it's own. No fault of anyone....Just the shear weight of itself will cause it to sag. Be prepared to run your slides in, and back out, after a rain in order to dump pooled water or devise a way to support it underneath. I currently have my thinking cap on.

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

Good quality slide-out awnings! Installation was straightforward, no issues. Very happy to find that they have pretty high spring tension so they won't sag anytime soon. My slides measured right between the awning size recommendations, and I decided to go with the smaller of the two options. They don't hang over the slides as much as I would have liked, but I still think this is better than having them hang TOO far over, and risk the extension arms failing, or pulling the screws out.
On a side note, I had a problem with shipping, and eTrailer was AWESOME in getting me a replacement part that was missing! Very happy!

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

An "add-on" that is absolutely necessary -- this "slide topper" shields the top of the slide from grit, grime, trash, dust & potential mold so that it isn't pulled back into the RV each time the slide is retracted. Frankly, the written instructions leave much to be desired, but thanks to the etrailer videos a reasonably able DIY'ER can install (...can't over emphasize that watching and memorizing the videos is a must, however!). An excellent product that seems to wear well while providing "necessary" protection.

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

After searching the internet and checking reviews I chose etrailer for my slide out awning. I have shopped at Camping World who had the same awning but a lower price. After contacting etrailer with their price match I got the awning plus a few dollars less shipped to my door! Communications were excellent!
The installation was straight forward with ample instructions. The mounting brackets for the slide out has two positions, an upper and lower to provide clearance between the roll and top of the slide out. I used the upper. Hardware was great quality. There is ample adjustments in the brackets side to side if needed. My trailer a 2020 Aspen Trail 2750BH has the “C” rail as part of the gutter so I didn’t need to install the one provided with the awning! My wife and I installed the awning with two ladders and did not have any problems. Make sure and use the silicone spray as it really makes the awning easy to slide thru the C channel. We are happy with our purchase and will definitely use etrailer for our needs! Thank you for a quality product!

Comments
Very pleased with our awing! We go camping once a month and have used it many times since we installed it. Still looking good, no sun fade or any other problems. It is a quality product! etrailer is my go to source! Never disappointed!

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

We were not given All of the correct hardware. Upon reaching out to Kylie and Chloe at E-trailer, they questioned whether we opened the package. After sending proof of purchase and the part number's needed they informed me they would send out a request to reorder the hardware. 2-3 days later, we received another email stating no shipment has been created but rather they would perform a 'dock search' to see if the missing hardware was there. Not only were the responses absolutely useless, they knew time was of the essence as hurricane Ian was on it's way to give us a direct hit. We will NEVER use etrailer ever again, and I warn other's to steer clear of etrailer all together.

During the same time we emailed etrailer about the missing hardware, we had the common sense not to leave it up to these idiots, so we contacted Lippert at the same time. The replacement hardware from LIPPERT arrived 3 days prior to etrailer informing us that they were NOT sending replacement hardware like they stated they would, rather they would look around the shipping dock for the missing parts. What in the world is going on with etrailer's customer service?! BUYER BEWARE and spend the extra buck at [online vendor] or [vendor]. If you expect the order from etrailer to come as it should, then you would be mistaken! If you expect okay-decent customer service, then you would be mistaken! Save yourself the headache or dealing with this BS and avoid etrailer all together. We know we will!

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

I like the slide toppers except in the extreme wind because they do flap when the wind is from the right direction. I should note that I was sent this review link by etrailer and not Lippert. etrailer is great to order from. However, one of the sets of brackets were different dimensions than the other set, causing my topper to rub on the slide flange. I contacted etrailer and was sent to Lippert. The first individual I spoke with didn't appear to know much about slide toppers even after I sent him photos pointing out the difference in brackets and, he confirmed that the two sets should have been the same. The next person acted as though they didn't believe me and I sent more photos with a tape measure in the photo to illustrate the difference between the two sets of brackets. Many many many more email exchanges as well as numerous phone calls later, they agreed to send me a new set of brackets. By this time of course, I had already jury rigged it with a doubled up piece of hard rubber to act as a spacer. Lots of miles and high winds and they are holding up pretty good. etrailer, good. Lippert, not so good customer service.

Review from a similar Solera Slide-Topper in RV Awnings

The product is average in quality. The main non-conformance would be the small pin installed by the factory that is used for connecting the end of the awning shaft to the mounting bracket arm at one end of the awning assembly. This particular pin is the anti-rotation mechanism that carries the entire load of the spring tension placed on the awning. In my case the factory installed pin is a split hollow design and has a very thin wall cross section thus making it under rated for the application. (3) of the (5) awnings installed on my RV failed within the first month. The pin would shear off and would release all of the factory set spring tension from the awning. This may be by design and considered to be a fail safe mechanism but, in my case the pin prematurely failed under factory set spring load conditions. I had to replace the subject pin on the (5) awnings with a solid stainless steel dowel pin. Reset the spring tension to the factory recommended settings and now a year later no issues and all is good. The stainless steel dowel pin can be purchased through your local hardware store.

The awning works great. It resolved a water issue and keeps the top of the slide clean of pine needles, leaves and debris. In the future we are considering putting an awning over the second slide. The only thing I wish I did was watch a video on the exact item being installed. This company and this product can be counted on. Thanks.

The product is excellent, the shipping was awful. Received the first shipment, the shipping tube and product was near bent in half. Had to send it back, easy reorder. Second shipment arrive, the driver didn't even want to take it out of the truck the tube was so badly damaged. There were holes punch into the shipping tube and the end cap was missing. It took both of us to remove the contents of the tube. Luckly the holes missed the product and did not damage it. Driver stated he would report it to this boss as he had no idea how the tube could have been so abused as to put holes in it.
