This converter charger converts AC shore power into DC power and charges your battery bank. If your RV already has a stock converter charger, it will need to be removed to ensure this unit operates properly.
During the charging process, the charger senses your battery bank's voltage and decreases the current as it reaches full charge. This decrease helps prevent overcharging, which can damage the battery. It is compatible with flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.
The available Charge Wizard (sold separately) upgrades the converter charger to automatically switch voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. The Charge Wizard simply connects to the TCMS port on the back of the converter charger.
The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the unit includes protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent, which can damage your equipment, as well as the converter. It also has GFCI protection that shuts off power when there is a current imbalance. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit. The fan speed is proportional to the internal temperature on the converter, so when the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly.
The converter mounts horizontally inside your RV in a dry location with ventilation. However, as long as the unit has sufficient ventilation, it can also be mounted vertically. The mounting hardware is not included.
The DC output terminals wire to the battery bank. The AC in cord plugs into a 120V 3-wire grounded outlet.

It had all the exact same connections. Getting to the converter however was a bit of a challenge. Once I gained access, it was still in a relatively tight squeeze area but with a little carefulness, I was able to remove one wire at a time and reconnect the new converter. Of course to get to the electrical outlet for the converter I needed to pull out the entire breaker panel so while I was at it, I decided to be sure all the panel lugs were tightened as well. The final step before turning any power on was to reconnect the battery. The entire process took just a little over 30 minutes. Power to the RV was turned on, each circuit tested and voila, the RV is back up again and the battery is charging. Hooray!! It would have been nice if there was an instruction sheet and what tools were needed for the project but I made due.
seahwolfe - 11/19/2022The instructions for installing converter was excellent. Every step was clear and as I followed them it was clear what was going on. The total time from installing the unit to completion was about 45 minutes. This also included cleaning battery terminals and dressing all cables.

Worked great. Easy swap out. USPS shipping could have been faster, from Missouri to Wisconsin 9 days? Not etrailer's fault. All in all rv batteries being charged by a converter not a battery charger.

Old Progressive Dynamics Intelli-Power 55 amp converter gave up the ghost--after twenty-one trouble free years in my 5th wheel. Just installed this unit, working as it’s supposed to... installed without smart charge for now, charges at a steady 13.2 with a new battery.. all interior 12 volt lighting is nice and bright.. I bought this brand because it’s American made.... I will update in a year or so

I would have liked the expensive electronic part to be in plastic since when it was delivered it was pouring rain and the box was soaked. I hope it works.
Arrived as promised in secure package. Easy install,(for me), 3 mounting screws and 3 wires. Solved the problem regarding frequent dimming of RV interior lights. Works perfectly. The replaced unit was original install from 2005.
