This smart converter charger converts AC shore power into DC power and uses the Charge Wizard multistage charging system to charge your battery bank. If your RV already has a stock converter charger, it will need to be removed to ensure this unit operates properly.
Charge Wizard Operation
Using the built-in Charge Wizard, the converter charger automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. This charger is compatible with flooded lead acid, AGM, and gel batteries.
Charging Modes
- Boost: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. This is where most of the charging happens. It charges the battery up to 90% of the full capacity.
- Normal: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery begins to reach capacity, the normal state will kick in and reduce the voltage to safely complete the charge.
- Storage: Once the battery reaches full charge and remains unused for 30 hours, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
- Equalization: This mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended storage cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.
Safety Features
The system includes a number of safety features. It has a reverse polarity protection that will protect the converter if the battery is hooked up incorrectly. Additionally, the unit includes protection for overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent, which can damage your equipment, as well as the converter. It also has GFCI protection that shuts off power when there is a current imbalance. The built-in cooling fan also removes excess heat from the unit. The fan speed is proportional to the internal temperature on the converter, so when the power demand is low, the fan will operate quietly.
Available Converter Status Remote Pendant for Easy Monitoring and Control
The Converter Status Remote Pendant (sold separately) monitors the converter's charging status. It also allows you to manually override the charge process to verify the unit is operating properly. The pendant uses a flashing green LED to indicate what charging mode is active. It easily connects to the converter's accessory port with the attached cable.
How It Installs
The converter mounts horizontally inside your RV in a dry location with ventilation. However, as long as the unit has sufficient ventilation, it can also be mounted vertically. The mounting hardware is not included.
The DC output terminals wire to the battery bank. The AC in cord plugs into a 120V 3-wire grounded source.

When my 40-amp converter suddenly quit working, I began searching for a replacement after confirming with my multimeter that there was no output. I found very few 40-amp and those were very $$$. I contacted etrailer.com to see if I could replace with a 45-amp. A quick response assured me it would assuming the 12v wiring would be heavy enough since an additional 5-amps would be minimal. The installation was very simple, and the system was immediately restored.

After I removed my old unit I installed an outlet then slid the new converter into place and wired it to the connections on the fuse board.After plugging it in the fan came on momentarily. I checked the voltage and it was at 13.59.The unit is compact, quiet.I used this unit to replace the Parallax 8345 converter.

Straight drop-in (okay a couple weird-angled semi-difficult to reach screws) replacement for a 10 year old PD 40 amp model that had developed a high pitched whine. Works great. Blissfully quiet now.

I use this along with two 6V golf cart batteries and it works great for dry camping. We run the generator about an hour a day and keeps them charged. Did a few trips this summer for a week at a time with no issues.

it replaced a converter in a 1991 RV. it works fine.
On the old converter there was a blue wirer that I didn't know where
it went. Because I could not get 12v to the 12v fuse block. with a ohm meter I found it to be the feed line thank you for your service.
