Video Transcript for etrailer Travel Trailer RV Covers Comprehensive Review

Hi, Matt with etrailer, if you're coming up on that off season where you're gonna put away your RV, you're not gonna be driving around with it, and you want a good way to store it and add that extra protection, then the etrailer RV Cover Series is gonna be a great option for you. So let's check it out. Today we're really just gonna be focusing on the line of the etrailer covers. Now with any cover, it is gonna offer you a lot of benefits and the main one is just gonna be the longevity of your RV. The reason being is it's gonna be able to prevent a lot of those sun rays from damaging your vehicle, because all the UV rays, and it's also gonna help prevent any of that dirt and grime from building up. 'Cause when you're driving around with it on a regular basis, you can really just maintain it, clean it off whenever you need to.

But when it's in storage it's a lot harder to do that and that's why a cover's gonna go a long way for you. It's also important to note, that you're looking for the right cover for yourself, because there are a lot of different variations, not just in sizes but also in styles. So we have right now behind me a travel trailer, but we'll also have different ones that are gonna be able to work with fifth wheels. It's just important that you're gonna find the style that's gonna fit your needs. Now is also great if you find out what the size of your trailer is.

So, what you're gonna do to find that out is just going from the front of the box, measuring that all the way to the back, and you're gonna be going to your back bumper. It's also great to include what's behind that bumper. So if you have anything like a spare tire, make sure you factor that in. So like today, our trailer is 27 feet, so we factored in another foot, because we have that spare tire. And I'm also gonna factor in another foot, because we have an AC unit to the top of our trailer.

So it's important that you factor in all those that find the right measurement for yourself. When it comes to how this is gonna be held down, it is not gonna be too different from any other type of cover out there. And really on the front and back, they're gonna be the same process. You're just gonna have two straps that reach across either side and holds this down. Now of course I don't have this super tight, just so I don't put too much strain under this and damage something, but really these do feel pretty sturdy.

When I come over here, it doesn't feel like something's gonna rip. It feels like it's gonna be able to hold up for a long time and the buckles are just gonna be made outta plastic. And these straps are pretty standard, still feels pretty sturdy. Now, something I'm not a big fan of is just how they're held in place. You're gonna have these clips that kind of clip into place and hold this down. This might just take with a little bit of practice using, but how we have it now is okay, is kind of keeping everything just from not dangling down, but as you can see, it does get a little bit loose in some spots. But after some work I'm sure you can get this look a lot better. And we look at the side, we are gonna have three straps that come underneath the RV. So, this one right here, is at a tricky spot and this is something you want to be a little bit more mindful of when you're installing this. We're still able to get this to work but it's gonna be a little bit more difficult. And that's a nice thing with this fitting a variety of trailers, that you can kind of maneuver this to fit your needs. And this also feels pretty good. Now you'll also notice too, right next to here, we are gonna have this double stitching. That double stitching's gonna give us just a better longevity of this cover. So it's gonna last you a long time, it feels pretty sturdy, but as far as the straps go, this is a good fit. And right next to me you'll notice I do have this additional strap. Now this is gonna be more of an optional choice if you want to use it, just to help reduce billowing. You will get two of these that come with your kit and it's really meant for those fits that just feel a little bit more loose. And we just wanna reduce, like I said, that billowing from occurring. And the backside is just gonna look exactly like the front side with how it mounts or secures down. You're gonna notice it's a lot more loose though. And like I said earlier, this will fit a variety of sizes. So we're gonna have slack somewhere and I honestly like to have it on the backside, just 'cause we're gonna have a lot of stuff that is mounted back here, anything like a spare tire or the etrailer cargo carrier. And when you have this door, you'll also have access to the interior of your RV. And the way you're gonna be able to do that is if you just reach down here, you notice we have the zipper. I just remove this hook and loop. I can unzip this, and from this point gain access to my door. And what's even better is if I come to the other side, I'll have an additional zipper down here and if I unzip 'em both, then I can actually unzip this entire panel. And we'll not only have access to our door, but if we have any other compartments down here for storage, we can get to that too. And this is what it's gonna look like when that panel is fully secured down. You'll just be able to roll this up and secure it with three hook and loop straps. And this can be more ideal if maybe you're spending a whole day getting ready for the next season, whether you're putting in more gear or taking out any gear that you need. Now I will say this is a little bit tricky to get to and reach, so you're probably gonna have to grab a ladder to really get up here and secure this down. And with this open you'll notice this is a thinner material and what that's designed for is to work with all weather conditions. And if you have it in any snowy, rainy or windy conditions, it should be able to handle that, especially in those more humid conditions. And that's why it's thinner. They allow more air flow and that's why you'll notice a lot of RV covers kind of opt for the style. Now something else that's gonna help with airflow too, are gonna be these vents we have up at the top. You're not only have this on either side, but you're gonna have it on front and back of your RV cover. And taking a closer look at the top of our cover, you'll notice we have this lighter color. That's indicating this is the roof portion and that's gonna help attract less sunlight. So this is gonna stay cooler. It's also gonna be a thicker material. And what's great about that thicker material, it's better for when you do have more buildup of either dust or pollen, just so you don't have to clean it as often, because climbing all the way up here could be pretty difficult if you had to clean it a whole lot. What I also like about it is, it's gonna help prevent those sun rays or the UV rays from penetrating through here and damaging your roof. Because if that is occurring, what could happen is it could have some fading or it could even lead to more leakage, because if you have any cracks that occur on here, that could damage your roof. Finally, we can take a closer look at this tab here. And if you notice it's gonna have this reflector on it and that's the reflector is just giving us a lot more peace of mind, especially at night. If anyone's driving around the lot, there's just gonna be more likely to notice this and it's also gonna be on the front and backside of your RV, so you're just gonna have full protection around. In my opinion, I think this is a solid choice when it comes to covers, because it's essentially doing everything that other covers do, being old weather conditions and being the same type of material and having the same number of layers. But what this one does, is it kind of meets that more economic price range as well. If I was gonna compare it to any other type of cover out there, I'd probably compare it to the Adco Olefin series and really they're gonna be the same type, only the difference is gonna be is just gonna be the design. So it's just gonna come down to if you want something a little more aesthetically pleasing, where the Adco has some type of design on the side of it, or if you just want something that's gonna get the job done, which is gonna be this, because it just has more of that flat gray design to it. And when it comes to the installation, it's not gonna be too different from the other ones out there. Now, there are a few things I recommend doing first and that's cleaning your RV, because if you have any dirt that's on the side of here, it can kind of act like sand paper. When you're in those windy conditions, that cover can move and not only damage your cover, but the RV itself. Also grabbing an extra set of hands and some ladders can help out a lot too. So what I'd like to start off with, is just taking out this cover, 'cause when we'll see or at least check that we have all the contents that we need. So I'm just gonna flip it around, take it out real quick. Now this is one we've used a few times already, so, when you use this a couple times you might notice it is a little bit harder to take out. I typically don't have too many issues, but at this point we're just gonna lay everything out, make sure it's in the right orientation and that we have all our parts. We've already started unrolling ours and I grabbed Aiden over here to help me out, 'cause having two hands is just gonna help you out a bit. And what we're looking for is, when we're doing this is to check two things. We wanna make sure it's on the correct sides. So one side is gonna be labeled front, and the other side's gonna be labeled back. To really show you what I'm talking about, once I get to the very end, I'll come across these little tags on the end of it, like this. Now there's gonna be one that just has a reflective coating on it, and then the other one is going to be located right here. Now on the front side this will say "front". The back side, we don't have any indicators like that, that I'm seeing at least. But what we can also do is just kind of rummage around a little bit. It should be in tag on the inside of this and that tag is right here that's gonna say "rear". We just wanna make sure that this stays inside and we're not getting this flipped inside out either. When you have everything laid out too, you wanna make sure you have all the proper straps. So we are gonna have some of these moderate length black straps. We're gonna have some extra long black straps and then we're gonna have some of these gray ones. And they are gonna be color coded for their uses, so we'll go a little bit more in the detail about that later on. We'll also have this ladder cover and then some of these gutter covers too. And you'll have this little bag here. It won't have any weights in it quite yet. You'll just have to pick up something offhand. So maybe some rocks or sand to put in here. But where I actually like to start off with is with these gutter covers. You also have a couple extras of these, just in case they do rip. Now I know some people will actually add some foam padding to this. Now this isn't gonna come with your kit, you'll have to buy this separately at a hardware store. I like using it too, just to give you some extra protection, 'cause that gutter can be pretty sharp, and this is gonna be made out of a very similar material as our cover. And to really put it on, you're just lining it up with that gutter, and then just wrapping this end with the hook and loop on it to secure this into place. Once you have that down, then you can repeat that process on the rest of the corners. And before we get up there, we just wanna make sure we're being safe when we properly chalk or a trailer. And I'm actually using a stabilizer, which is gonna be a great method to make sure this isn't gonna move when I'm on top of the roof. To get that on top of a roof, we're gonna have two methods we can use. The first method is just gonna involve grabbing a friend and a ladder, and they're just gonna hand you the cover going from either direction. The second method is gonna involve us rolling up the cover and then just handing it off to the second person and then they're gonna unroll it on top of the roof, either going from front to back or vice versa. Now I'm actually gonna attempt the roll-up method. I like to begin with actually grabbing my friend Aiden over here, and he's actually gonna hand me the cover and now I'm just unrolling it. And the important thing is to stay safe. So I like to actually kneel down during this entire process. Just I'm a little bit more stable. And the other important thing to note, is at no point am I ever getting on top of the cover. 'cause if I we inchesre to get on top of it and slip, that could be really bad. So what I'm really doing here is laying it over the entire section and then pushing one side over. Once that entire side is about at the halfway point, I'm gonna go over to the other side and repeat that process. I'm gonna work my way back and I'm gonna save the ladder for last. Once I eventually get to the ladder, I'm basically just gonna be putting on that ladder cover and then getting off and then adjusting to fit the rest of the way. Now we can start securing this down and where I like to start is with the front side or the backside. It's gonna be the same process. So we're gonna be grabbing those more moderate straps, not those super long ones. And you're gonna have two males ends to it. And these are also going to be black. So the way I'm gonna do it, is I'm gonna grab this point right here is gonna say "front" on it and it's gonna have that female buckle to it. I'm just gonna connect those together. When they're connected together, I'm actually gonna go across to the other side and instead of going to the top one, I'm gonna kind of cross this. So going more diagonal. Try to make sure that this strap also remains straight. We don't want it to get twisted up. Once I've done that, just connecting it over here and we're gonna tighten it into place. Now my goal here is only to tighten each side a little bit. You wanna make sure this is even as possible and we don't wanna go overboard with it. We don't want this too tight, because if it's too tight that's not gonna allow this to kind of have a little bit more room for wiggle. And if it's too tight, it's probably gonna rip something. And then you're just gonna repeat that process with the other corner. You're gonna find that you have a lot of excess strap typically. So what you can do with that is you're gonna have this little clip here. If I try to pull that apart, that's gonna let me store all this excess right here. And you can do this one one of two ways. You could actually put it at this location here, or I could reach all the way across to the other side and use this point. Whichever way is gonna be easiest for you, just to contain that mess. We can move over to securing underneath our cover now and we're gonna grab these gray straps. Now the way this is gonna work is you're gonna grab the male end and hook it up to that little bag where you can put some rocks in and whatever you can use as a weight, to check it to the other side. Before I throw it to the other side, I wanna make sure I grab my other male end and hook it up right here on the cover. That's just gonna ensure when I do throw this over, I'm not gonna lose the strap. And it's just a pretty simple process. All you have to do is grab it and chuck it over there. You are just gonna take this now, unbuckle it, and take that male in and hook it up to the other side. With that hooked up, we can now tighten this into place. Now again, just be sure, careful you don't tighten this too much, 'cause you don't want too tight of a fit. And also make sure you tighten down the other side too, 'cause that's just gonna help even out the load. Once you're done with this then you're just gonna repeat that process on the two behind me. And one of the last steps is gonna be more of an optional step and that's me using these extra long straps. Now, we want to make sure this wraps all the way around and I'm gonna try to center up between these two zippers. It's not a bad idea, to kind of make sure you have enough length that will reach across. And I still like to keep it bundled together, mainly so there's enough weight there so it can travel across the trailer itself. So, that's about a good amount right there. We're gonna make sure I have one end and just chuck it over. And from here, we can start putting everything into place. When we got outta the across there, I just went to the other side, used that bag again, the one with the weight, and now that I'm done using that, I should get the back over here, I can just hook this together. And from here we're just gonna tighten this down. Again, you don't wanna go overboard with tightening in it, you just wanna make sure you're getting a lot of that slack. You can even try to bring it over just a tad bit, make sure it's a little more centered. And if you want you can do this on the other side. You don't have to just use one strap. I like using one just so I have the other section. So if I ever need to open that one up, I can do it without taking off any of these straps. This is a good point to really go back over and check the cover, going to all the sides, making sure it's not too loose, where it's gonna be getting a lot of billowing and it's not too tight, where it's gonna be prone to ripping something. And right now this is looking pretty good, but that's just a look at the installation and some of the features of the line of etrailer RV covers. I'm Matt, thanks for watching.

  • How to Measure Travel Trailer For etrailer Travel Trailer Cover Fit
Hey Doug, That's a good question because fit is really important so the cover stays snug on your trailer, and there is a specific way to measure for the etrailer covers. It's pretty simple, and what you want to do is measure the body of the travel trailer to the furthest point rearward, though keep a few things in mind. 1) Don't measure the trailer tongue because the cover won't be going over it. 2) The furthest point rearward does include your bumper and/or spare tire if you have those. 3)...

  • etrailer RV Cover for 2018 Forest River Cherokee 234VFK
Hello again Joe; the etrailer RV Cover for Travel Trailers # e97VV does have zippers to allow access with the cover on which can be seen in the video attached below. This will work as long as you measured correctly. You need to measure the body of the travel trailer to the furthest point at the rear (this includes your bumper and spare tire). Do not measure the tongue since it won't be covered. It looks like your 2018 Forest River Cherokee 234VFK has a single AC unit so you need to add...

  • Where Do I Measure Travel Trailer to Pick Out Storage Cover
Hey Kevin, when measuring a travel trailer for a storage cover like the part # e47VV you measure basically from the very back (not including the ladder) to the very front of the body of the camper not including the propane tanks. All of the standard RV exterior accessories have already been factored into the size ranges of the camper covers. For example the cover you referenced fits RVs that are 30-33 feet in length.
