  • Safety for Heating Elements (CSA) C22.2 No. 72-m1984 (R2004)
  • Flammability tests (UL) 746C, 15 and CSA 0.17,9,2
  • Dieletric Voltage Withstand Test (UL) - 1000 volts/1 minute
  • Thermal Aging Test (UL)

Note: This heater pad should be installed on non-conductive surfaces only.

Why ThermaHeat?

When the outside temperature is cold enough, the gray water or black water dump valve pipe or elbow on your RV will freeze. This stops you from being able to dump your gray water or black water tank. Furthermore, the frozen water could potentially cause cracks or other irreparable damage, which would mean you would have to replace the pipe.

The full-contact ThermaHeat heater pad will prevent this by keeping your pipe warm during freezing temperatures. It can also completely thaw out a pipe if it's already frozen, assuming that it hasn't been damaged. The heater pad does all the work for you, preventing you from having to go out in the cold and thaw it out by hand with a heat gun or hair dryer, which can melt the side of your pipe if not used properly.

Installation and Wiring

ThermaHeat Peel-and-Stock Installation

This heater pad has easy, peel-and-stick installation. The flexible carbon fiber material is designed to fit the contours of any valve pipe or elbow surface. The pad is meant for use on black water and gray water pipes, but can be installed onto freshwater pipes as well.

ThermaHeat 2-Wire Design

The pad has a white wire for ground, and a red wire for power. This 2-wire design is compatible with DC power while your RV is in transit. It can also run through a converter while connected to a power source when your RV is parked. The pad wires into a wall switch on your RV, letting you turn it on and off as needed.

Additionally, you are able to install this pad with other ThermaHeat heater pads (sold separately). In order to do this, they must be connected and run parallel. You would daisy-chain the red wires together and connect them to the battery of your RV or camper and then daisy-chain the white wires together and ground them. In order to turn the pads on and off, you will need to install a switch (sold separately) between the battery and the pads.

The pad works well. Below 17F it is unable to keep up and the system freezes.

by:

Install 3 holding take heaters, 1 fresh water tank heater and 5 elbow/ pluming heaters on my trailer. All of the heaters running at the same time draws less than 300 watts so I can now leave then on when towing without having to run my propane heater in the trailer. I added R30 insulation to my underbelly and took a trip to Angel Fire NM where one night it got down to -24 degrees F. None of my tanks froze. I had one temperature probes directly on my black water tank and it was 53 degrees with the -24 outside. Every day was below freezing with temps in the lower teens each night. I believe these are rated at -11 but it is a good idea to have an enclosed underbelly to keep the rest of your pluming warm.

by:

Performs exactly as described and would highly recommend them for someone looking to give their trailer protection while operating during freezing temperatures. Easy to install and wire!

by:

I have 4 of these installed (2 for a year and 2 for 2 years). 2 I installed last season replacing 2 that failed. presently only 1 of 4 is functioning, these seem to only last about a year, 2 years tops based of my replacement rate.

by:

Have not installed this yet, but hope it will keep my Dupree Valves from freezing and cracking like they did before I replaced them, they exposed to elements on a Silver Streak.. Appreciated such fast and courteous service from etrailer!

by:

Easy install, appears to work as designed. Instructions say to clean surfaces w/alcohol, I'm a believer in Lacquer thinner myself, cleans a preps plastic a lot better imop.

by:

Works as designed, wired it in with the tanks heaters.

by:

When I read description it made me believe these heaters had an internal temperature on/off when in fact they do not. That was only Reason I purchased. I’m sure they work as made but they will not work as I anticipated.

by:

2nd purchase from e trailer works perfectly and got here fast. Thx

by:

Excellent adhesion to pipe, good wire quality, now I have to wait for it to get cold to see if it works!

  • How To Wire In Three Thermat Heat RV Tank And Pipe Heater Pads
The ThermaHeat RV Dump Valve Pipe and Elbow Heating Pad # 277-000162 pulls 0.3 amps and the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad # 277-000164 pulls 4.8 amps. Assuming that you're having them all run off the same switch and wiring you would be fine using a 10amp fuse # SWC9538 and some 14 gauge wire. You can run the power wire from the battery to a switch, like part # DG52452VP, and then either splice three separate wires from the switch to the pads or one wire from the switch...

  • Recommended Water Tank Heater For A 13 Gallon Flat Water Tank
Good morning and thank you for your question. I recommend for you the Therma Heat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164. This is a 18-1/4" long x 12" wide heater pad so you will want to make sure your tank has adequate surface area. There is also a 25" Long x 7-1/4" Wide pad available # 277-000163 if that will be a better fit. The best thing about this pad is the built in thermostat that automatically operates the pad. It will only come on when the temperature drops below 45 degrees....

  • Can Multiple Therma Heat Heater Pads be Wired to Single Switch
Multiple heating pads like the Therma Heat 25 Inch x 7-1/4 Inch # 277-000163 and the Elbow Heater Pad # 277-000162 that you have can be wired to a single switch. If you are not getting enough voltage with your current setup, it's possible that the switch you are using cannot handle the total amperage of the heating pads. The larger pads draw 5.8 amps (each) and the elbow pad draws 0.3 amps. A higher rated switch like the Pollak # PK34310 might be a better option if your existing switch...

Both ThermaHeat RV Pads # 277-000161 and # 277-000162 that you referenced are designed for 12V systems so they will work if you're just using the house battery bank on your rig. Since the optimal voltage from a 12V system is around the 13.5 mark that's why the specs list it as that.

We have part # 277-000162 which is 8" x 3" and part # 277-000161 which is 13" x 3". Either one of these will do a great job keeping your water pipes warm as long as they do not exceed 3" in diameter. Using a larger pad will provide more heat so if you can fit the larger pad that will be your best bet.
