Atwood RV Gas Detectors - AT36681

  • Carbon Monoxide and Propane
  • White
  • Atwood
  • Indicator Lights

Using fueled appliances in your RV can increase the risk of high levels of propane gas and carbon monoxide. Protect your family from both with one detector. Uses less power, gives early alerts with fewer false alarms, and lasts up to 7 years.

Features:

  • Carbon monoxide and propane gas detector alerts you to potentially dangerous levels of gas in your RV
    • Detects levels of CO as low as 30 ppm
    • Detects levels of LP gas as low as 2,000 ppm
  • Fuel-cell sensor gives an earlier alert when CO levels are high
    • Less sensitive to false-alarm triggers than other detectors
  • Test/reset button lets you test the sound and reset to normal after an alarm
  • 4 Indicator lights take out the guesswork
    • Carbon monoxide light goes on during active CO alarm
    • Propane light goes on during active LP gas alarm
    • Power light illuminates if power is low
    • Fault light lights up if maintenance is needed
  • Power conservation mode reserves current draw if your RV power surges or dips
    • Second power wire can be connected to auxiliary 12-volt battery for backup
  • Lasts up to 7 years from the time you first turn the unit on
  • Adapter plate included for flush-mount installation
  • White color
  • ETL tested for residential and RV use
  • CSA certified

Specs:

  • Wall cutout size: 3-9/16" long x 3-7/16" wide x 1" deep
  • RV voltage: 12 volt DC
  • Current draw: up to 75 mA
  • Alarm intensity: 85 decibels at a distance of 10'
  • 7-Year lifespan starts at first power-up
  • 2-Year limited warranty

Note: Because LP gas is heavier than air, this detector should be installed no more than 18" from the floor so that it can accurately detect the amount of gas in your RV.

The risk of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning goes up when you use fuel-burning appliances, and propane (LP gas) is usually the first choice of power in RVs. This 2-in-1 alarm gives you early detection, and peace of mind from the possible dangers of both gasses.

I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they have are convinced it just a bad alarm. They are willing to replace the unit for you. Once you receive the replacement, I would love to hear your updated feedback.

As a full-time RVer, I rely on companies like etrailer to get the parts I need to make repairs on my RV. The staff have always been friendly and professional. I have yet to return any product I have ordered.
Due diligence is required on the customer to make sure that the correct part is ordered. If you can’t find what you are looking for, call etrailer and they will most likely be able to help!
Now I have to install my parts…..

This product has one function. Detecting an unwanted gas. So far, so good!

by:

Installed as a replacement for the original 2007 unit. While I had to increase the size of the hole in the wall to install, it also reduced the amount of protrusion from the wall compared to the old detector (multi max tool to the rescue). I like the additional CO feature as well as the propane detection capability. Need to keep in mind the detectors in RV's have expiration dates and need replacement to maintain safe operation.

I just received my new replacement unit, and haven't yet installed it, so I cant say if it works or not. I'm sure it does, but I can speak on how great the customer service was on this order. I was well informed through out the entire order process and the status of the order. 5 stars on service. I would have rated the unit 5 stars if it would have been an option for the color to be Black or White. All my finishes in my camper are Black, so having this available in Black would have been nice. But this isn't Etrailer's fault, the unit doesn't come in Black anymore from what I have seen. I'm really picky on things matching, but that's just me. Plan to install it this weekend.

No issues yet. Installed it a few months ago. Hopefully it will last, and hopefully they will come out with a Black colored model so it will match the interior finishes.

Went camping in March 2023. All good. No more false alarms or beeps in the middle of the night! Seems to be working well.

by:

Dead on arrival. The unit fault light on solid and the rest are blinking. User guide says unit is bad. Contacted etrailer, and they just sent me Dometic's number, which was incorrect and I had to look that up. I'll update if Dometic steps up and send a new unit.

by:

Works great! Since the unit was exactly the the same as our original unit it mounted in the same location and the wiring was simple being just as the original unit. Buy with confidence at Etrailer!

by:

This was a direct replacement for one that came with the RV. As an RV Inspector, I knew it was at end of life even before it beeped, as usual etrailer.com was great and timely on getting my new one and it works flawlessly.

by:

Thanks so much!we were going camping when the co monitor stop working look everywhere for a new one. Sold out. Everyone would say. Called etrailer. Problem solved thanks so much for being helpful.

by:

I installed it and it works fine. My only issue is that according to the date of manufacture, the detector was already 21 months old upon delivery. With a life expectancy of 7 years, 25% of the two sensors lives are already gone once I bought the detector. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they were cheap, but these things are expensive.

by:

Works like new, no issues at all!! I’ve checked around after buying it and found out it was a very good purchase price. Thank you!!!

by:

Thanks for the quick service on a defective monitor. This one was easy to install and seems to work great.

by:

This replacement fit perfectly in the original cut out - no alterations needed! Happy to have this safety feature up and running in our RV.

by:

New detector was exact fit and easy ins tall

by:

I cannot yet comment on the performance. This detector replaced an on-wall LP Gas detector. I like that it detects both propane and CO.

I had a small 50-cent piece size hole in my wall, and had to enlarge it to 3" x 3" as this is an in-wall mount. Once mounted, it rises only 1/4" from the wall. I used a hacksaw blade to saw the hole for the mounting. Measure twice, cut once.

If you have two power sources, such as battery and another, it has two power inputs. You may also wire the two inputs to one source, as I did. My batteries are on solar charge.

When you first connect it, the light blips, but if you hit the test / reset button, it clears them all and leaves a small, green, LED power button.

I have yet to test this, but hope to do so soon.

by:

Received fast. Easy install. Still working great!!!

by:

Perfect replacement fit for original equipment. Received order quickly and correctly as usual for etrailer.

by:

Works as it should…out of sight… out of mind. Hard to believe
We installed it a year ago

by:

Works as designed. Simple install. Perf ect.

by:

It appears to be a bit larger than the original Atwood 31011 model it is replacing (as far as the cut out is concerned). This is not a deal breaker though as I can just increase the opening a bit.

by:

Easy to install as replacement. Prompt shipping and came with clear instructions. Working as advertised.

by:

excellent product. perfect replacement for older (2004) model.

by:

I needed an exact replacement for part# 36636. Amy found this for me and it fit perfectly. It was an easy install; using the same cuttout and screw holes. Many thanks to Amy in her patience and assurance in guiding me to the correct part.

by:

Exactly what I ordered and as always, a perfect transaction. I wish other companies would use etrailer business model, I've never had a problem with etrailer, even when I've made a mistake in ordering, they've always been there to fix it quickly and fairly. I wouldn't consider purchasing from any other RV parts company.

The Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector - 12 Volt - White # AT36681 utilizes a wall cutout size of 3-9/16" long x 3-7/16" wide x 1" deep. This is the replacement for the GS961LP you referenced. I've linked a diagram to assist with wiring.

  • Can Trash Can be Placed in Front of Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector
The Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector # AT36681 can be located behind a trash can, but I would make sure that your trash can isn't right up against the detector. I'm not sure how the 7 year rating is decided, but RVers tend to all have the same type of routine and so I'm pretty sure Atwood came up with that rating with the masses in mind as opposed to the handful of people who are full time RVers. So basically I'd count on this lasting for 7 years and then if it lasts...

  • Why Does Atwood 36681 Carbon Monoxide / Propane Leak Detector Have Two Power Wires
The two red wires of the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector # AT36681 are designed for powering the unit. The reason there are two wires is so that in the event one battery fails there's a backup in place so that it'll still function. If you ran both to the same battery the unit would function but it would not have that fail-safe mechanism in place.

  • Protechtor Propane Detector Replacement for RV Where Light Stays On
Your ProTECHtor is pretty old at this point and if it's constantly showing a red alarm light after resetting and there is no gas leaks then it is bad and would need to be replaced. Typically these need replacing at around 7 years. The Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector part # AT36681 will be an excellent replacement for the ProTECHtor LP Gas Detector. The Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector has a seven year life span which is pretty standard.

  • Recommended Replacement Carbon Monoxide Detector
The carbon monoxide detector I recommend for a replacement is the Atwood # AT36681. • Replacing the GS961LP with the Atwood LP Gas Detector RV 12V White 36719
I spoke with a contact at Atwood. The main concern for the GS961LP is ensuring that it receives 12V power. Because the Atwood LP Gas Detector RV 12V White 36719 has this, it's highly possible that it can work for you. However, we do not sell this part, so I cannot 100% confirm this. We can confirm the # AT36681 that you referenced, so I recommend going with that.
