Having a propane gas leak in your RV is a scary situation that you don't want to even think about let alone experience. But this detector will give you peace of mind knowing that if there are dangerous levels of propane, it'll quickly and accurately warn you and your family so you can get out of the RV and into fresh air.

Hard-to-Miss Visual and Audible Cues

When propane gas is detected, the red LED will come on, and the horn will be constant. And because the sensor is highly selective, it's designed to only sound the alarm for lethal propane gas, reducing the number of false alarms that occur in non-threatening scenarios.

It'll also alert you when the battery is low or when the detector has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced, so you never have to be without protection.

Easy to Test and Silence

RV Safe Propane Detector

To double check that the detector is operating normally, you can easily use the button on the front to test the propane sensor and battery voltage. You should test your detector every time it's taken out of storage and before it's taken out for each camping trip. This button also lets you silence the horn up to 5 minutes during non-life-threatening situations. So, you can turn off that annoying racket in the middle of the night while you're trying to hunt for a new battery.

Surface-Mount, Bolt-On Installation

The 2 included universal mounting brackets allow this detector to replace 90 percent of all OEM surface-mount and flush-mount detectors. This detector can replace most Atwood and Dometic branded detectors, as well as Safe-T-Alert 20 series, 25 series, 30 series, 35 series, 40 series, 45 series, and 65 series detectors.

Because propane gas is heavier than air, it'll settle near the floor, so this detector should be installed 4" to 18" from the floor to accurately detect the presence of gas. Also make sure that the detector is located in an area that isn't near a window or door, behind furniture or drapes, or in a closet. It also shouldn't be installed with 24" near a stove, oven, fridge, or furnace.

Easy to install, and low profile. The holes didn't match up with the old Safe T alarm so I just drilled one new one, but it does come with 2 different back plates to cover any larger hole if you need to. Just connect red and black wires on unit to existing camper wires with wire nuts, or whatever connections you prefer. I tested the alarm with a lighter and it worked. Time will tell how long it lasts, before it needs replaced. My original one lasted about 3 years before it started going off in the middle of the night for no reason. It was a safe T brand. Overall, this one was priced right and is doing the job so far.

Review from a similar Gas Detector in RV Gas Detectors

This Propane Detector replaced an old Atwood Protechtor Series 2001 and the larger bezel covered the hole from the old unit. It looks good.

The RV Propane Gas Detector, # RS64FR should be installed in the horizontal orientation. This comes with two mounting bracket options to help cover over holes such as you describe. These options are 7-1/4" long x 3-3/8" wide or the second option of 5-3/4" long x 4-1/4" wide.

  • What Propane Gas Leak Detector do You Recommend for My RV?
For a propane gas leak detector, I recommend using the RV Propane Gas Detector - 12 Volt - 2 Wire # RS64FR (white) or # RS54FR (black). This detector requires 8V-15V of DC power and has overall dimensions of 4-1/4" long x 2-5/8" wide x 1/2" thick. It also comes with a large and small mounting bracket for your application. It is important to note that these detectors do not include the required flat 1/2" self-tapping screws.

  • Replacement LP Gas Detector Recommendation For Older Protechtor 2001 Series LP Gas Detector
I wasn't able to find the Atwood 36720 RV Propane Gas Detector you mention, however I was still able to find the RV Propane Gas Detector # RS64FR in white, or # RS44FR in black to work as a replacement for your Protechtor Series 2001 LP Gas Detector. This replacement will work with virtually any alarm, so it is likely to work with yours as well, and features the same two wire design as your current Protechtor Series 2001.

  • Replacement Gas Detector for an Atwood Series 2001 LP Gas Detector
I tried finding information on the blinking green light on your Atwood Series 2001 LP Gas Detector but was unable to find anything that mentioned a blinking green light. The Atwood Series 2001 LP Gas Detector you have is no longer available which is likely why it was difficult to find information. The Atwood Series 2001 LP Gas Detector does have a life cycle of 7 years +/- 128 days. This starts once the detector is first started up. If you believe you are close to or passed that 7 year...

We do have some LP gas detectors available, but none would be a direct replacement for your CCI 7770.2 / Pre Tell 22. From what I could find on your CCI 7770.2 / Pre Tell 22, it has dimensions of 6.25" wide x 3.9" tall. The RV Propane Gas Detector # RS44FR (black) and # RS64FR (white) measure 4-1/4" long x 2-5/8" tall but have two different bracket sizes to fit what you need.
