Custer Dome Light Dimensional Diagram

Need extra light over your camper kitchen sink for when you do the dishes? Or perhaps you need to upgrade the dim, old lights in your enclosed car hauler? This dome light has warm yellow LEDs that give you brighter light underneath a kitchen cabinet, in a walkway, above a shower stall, or inside a small hunting cabin.

Custer Dome LEDs

LEDs are more energy efficient, last longer, and burn brighter than lights with incandescent bulbs. You won't have to worry about replacing bulbs that have brittle filaments. And because LEDs draw minimal power, the light won't drain your battery, overload your circuits, or produce too much heat.

Surface-Mount, Bolt-On Installation is Easy

Custer Dome Light Installed

This surface-mount dome light is incredibly easy to install as an upgrade or direct replacement of your existing light. To access the bolt holes, pull the lens up and away from the housing. Do not use any tools to remove the lens, as it will crack. Then, using hardware (not included), bolt the housing onto the ceiling, wall, or cabinet before re-installing the lens. The light has a 2-wire design that hooks up to ground (white wire) and power (black wire). Once you're finished, you can then turn the light on and off using the integrated toggle switch in the center of the light. And if you want to be able to control the brightness of the light, you can connect it to an LED-compatible dimmer switch (not included).

Video Transcript for Custer 9-LED Interior Light with Wire Pigtail Review and Installation

What is going on everybody Adam, here with Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Custer Interior Light for your RVs or enclosed trailers. What we have here is an led light and it is going to have a switch. So a lot of these lights inside our enclosed trailer are all hardwired. So when we flip the switch, all the lights come on. Sometimes I don't need all the light and sometimes I need a little bit more light.

So with the switch, I kind of like that just because I have the option. I do recommend if you have an enclosed trailer, if I had one, I would recommend that you get some that are wired in. That'll turn on with the switch but then others that just have their own switch just in case. And this is an led. It's going to have a nice, soft, white light to it, which I kind of like that too.

Having a mixture between both really helps kinda light up the trailer properly. It's not just one hard blue, white light. This one's a little bit softer. So it gives a more homey feeling. It's really good for your RVs.

I like the homey feeling in the RVs cause it's kind of a home but it really isn't. So, I definitely like that. It does have leds, so it's not really going to draw a whole lot. Less than 0.5 amps, which is hardly anything comparing that to some incandescent bulbs. I really don't recommend those just because they draw a lot.

They break a lot quicker and I just don't think that that's something I would want. But if you do, we have a lot of them on our website. This is really great. It's got nine diodes. So I'll go ahead and lift this little lens up and you can see them all right there. So it gives off a really bright light but with the lens it kind of makes it a little bit more bearable if you did stare at it. So with this, we have a plastic ABS housing. It's going to be white. And as far as dimensions go, it's only gonna stick off the wall about two inches and it's going to be about six and a half inches tall and about four inches wide. So for the amount of light that it puts off and how small it is, I definitely think it's a pretty compact unit. It's gonna be for your 12 volt DC systems so make sure that's what you're working with in your RV camper or your trailer. And it really isn't that difficult to get it installed. So if you stick around, we're going to show you how we did it. First things first, we want to figure out exactly where we want our light. I'm just replacing the light that used to be here. So once we figured that out, we want to run the wires. If you have wires ran already, awesome. We can skip that step. If not, we're going to need a positive and a negative wire. So run those. And then, we're gonna take our light and what we want to do is you can go ahead and slide this up. Just kind of like that, take that lens off, and we can put that to the side for now. So let's take care of the wires. So we want to match them up by function. For this instance, this is going to be ground and the white is going to be power and it does match up with our wires here, but that's not always the case. Never always revert to hooking them up by color. It's always by function. You want to make sure to test these wires before you get all the connections made. So once you do that, what we want to do is we're gonna take some heat shrink butt connectors right here and make our connections. If you don't have any, we have some here a etrailer. So it is a one stop shop and you can go ahead and add those to your cart. So you're ready to install whenever all the parts come in. Go ahead and take one of our little connectors and once we strip back our wires, make sure it twist them together. Makes it a lot easier to get all those wires in the connector. Go ahead and squeeze these real tight. We want to make sure they're nice and snug so they don't come loose cause I will eventually put these inside the wall and we really don't want to lose them because that will be a pain to get back out. Give it a good tug. It's really nice to do just to make sure it's nice and tight. We'll do the same thing with this one. I usually just like to do this on one side to start just because it really is kind of difficult to put both of the wires in and get them both cinched down without them pulling out. So now, we'll take our light and we'll start to make this connection. This is what I'm talking about. You needed to twist these things together or it's a pain. A little trick for ya. So put that in there. Just like that. Down, just like that. Tug it snug. Cool, move on. Crimp it down. Tug it. And it's snug and we're good to go. Before I take the heat gun, make sure that it works before I go ahead and heat these up and secure the connection. So hopefully when I flip this switch, then I have light, which we do. So now we can proceed. When it comes to heating these things up, I use a heat gun. If you don't have one, you can use a hairdryer. It just will take a little bit longer. These are my favorite way to connect wires just because it will keep all that water out, but it's also going to help plug those wires so they don't pull out. So ideally, you know, we're going to crimp down on them, tight enough to where that won't be an issue. But you never know what'll happen with this. It's just a little bit of added piece of mind for me that we have a good connection. I would definitely recommend using these, not using twist knots. I don't like them. They don't really typically stay together especially if we're going to hide these wires in the back. Twist knots are not the way to go. So grab some of these for sure. Now that that's done, we can go ahead and proceed. Let's go ahead and tuck our wires in. So that they'll sit nice and flush. Just like that. Perfect, okay. So the mounting hardware is not included, so you will have to get your own. Just using these here. It's a little soft tapper, so it'll be nice and easy and you can use power tools, probably will just to be able to get it into the surface, but don't over tighten it. You don't want to crack the housing. I'll do the same exact thing for the remaining bolts. Now that that's done, we'll take our little lens here. You can see, right here. So we're going to start up top. All these tabs are going to go up top of the bigger section. Then it's just going to click down. Don't want to force it. You'll know when it goes. Just like that. Give a nice click and we are ready to go. And that'll do it for our look at the Custer Interior Led Light..

Very bright

I received the three different LED interior lights that I ordered and hooked them up to a battery as soon as they got here. I was blown away as they were much brighter in person than your videos, which I appreciate very much. We're in a hurry up mode as we need to be on the road in one week. Hope to send some pics of the finished camper soon.
