RV Sealant - Non-Sag vs Self-Leveling

The kind of sealant you apply to your RV is important. To determine the type of sealant you need for your application, you will want to consider what it is you are sealing and where it is on your RV.

Self-leveling sealant is designed to level out as you apply it. The thick liquid slowly flows into a level position as gravity takes effect. This is particularly useful when sealing flat surfaces, like around a roof vent, AC, or skylight. As you apply the sealant, gravity will cause it to settle into an even line, giving you a clean, low-profile look.

Non-sag sealant is designed to retain its shape as you apply it. The consistency of the liquid is thick but malleable enough to be easily applied without causing sagging or slumping. This is useful when sealing vertical surfaces, such as the edges of a wall, window, or vent. As you apply the sealant, it will harden just enough to keep the liquid from drooping, giving you a clean, even look.

Worked well for a year, a little noise in bushings, However, just this week, 15 months after install, the fan began to turn on by itself: and via the control panel would sometimes turn off when I pressed the power button, but had to disconnect the power, then re-connect, and would be okay, but now it just stays on at a high speed when connected to power.

> Now it just turns on when I connect power, and none of the control panel buttons do anything.
>
> It is connected to 12 V system 2 100 ah lithium batteries to buss bar fuse box.
>
Wow, ad for over $200, you would think this thing would be a bit more resilient, What a shame, cheap manufacturing, for great earnings for Maxxfan executives.

> What can be done to fix this control panel issue?

by:

Easy to use. Self leveling.

by:

This was thicker and more difficult to apply than I had anticipated. That said, I do think it worked ok to caulk around the refrigerator vent on an old camper trailer I have. It was an unusually cold day when I applied it so that may have contributed to my difficulties.

Just what I needed. Thank you.

by:

Item was delivered on time. I have not used it yet but from previous reviews online I am sure I will have no problem using it to seal a new MaxAir fan that I have also ordered from E-Trail

by:

Installed a new 14 x 14 ceiling vent. There was enough product in this tube to adequately seal around the entire vent. It did "self-level". The application is smooth and sealed. It set up for several days out of the weather adn we did not experience any visible leaks inside during or after an extreme thunderstorm.

Great customer service!

I recommend setting the sealant tube in warm or hot water to allow it to loosen up before using. It may allow it to flow better.

by:

Great product. I used this to seal a new vent installation and it works perfectly. It is "self leveling" so expect it to spread out after you run a bead of it. I bought some extra tubes and I'm glad I did. When I installed the vent, I found the seal around our skylight to be cracked. Before I applied the product, I used a good cleaner and rag to clean the area to get a good seal. I'll use this again in the future.

by:

I used this when replacing a vent fan in my RV. I ran out before making it around the fan so I ran to the local RV store and picked up a competing product (Dicor). When applied side-by-side it became very clear that this product is far inferior to the more popular product made by Dicor. The LaSalle Bristol XTRM went on just fine, but didn’t really spread and level out the way it should so it left a few gaps and left me questioning if it made a good seal. You can see in the photos I attached that it somewhat kept its shape as opposed to spreading out like it should. Spend a few dollars more and get the superior product. Weather was perfect at about 75 degrees so that wasn’t a factor.

by:

Great product. Thanks Bob and your crew for the install of this product and the video you made. Have not had any problems with leaks or it coming loose.

I called Etrailer.com to try to locate tail light lenses for my Heartland RV Trailer. I was lucky enough to speak with James A.. He guided me on the web site to the parts I needed and even let me know LED upgrades were available. I asked about weather proofing sealants and he knew right away what I needed. I ordered 2 tail light assemblies and 2 tubes of the caulk. They arrived in 2 days which was several days sooner than I expected. I also checked campingworld for the items and found that Etrailer.com beat them by about 40% on price. I have a new "go to" place for my RV trailer needs. Thanks again James for being knowledgeable and super fast.

The roof vent on your trailer is most likely for black water tank. The Lippert Components 360 Siphon RV Holding Tank Vent Cap part # LC389381 has a base with a 4" outer diameter. • Can I Apply XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant onto EternaBond Residue?
Hey Mark you can apply the LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant item # 34427034145-1 over the residue but it's best to get as much off as possible. If you use a metal tool, like a putty knife, heating it up will help remove the excess residue. Using mineral spirits is another good way to get the residue to come loose.

  • Troubleshooting A Leaking MaxxAir MaxxFan In A 2021 Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite Travel Trailer
The inner shroud of the vent is for looks only so it's very concerning that you're getting water through the cracks in it from overtightening the mounting screws. This would be an indication that you have a leak originating somewhere up on the roof. This is typically caused by a damaged lid or poor sealing job when installing the vent. If the lid is the issue then I would need to know the specific model to find the correct replacement lid. There's also covers like the # MA86JR that can...

  • How To Apply The Alpha Systems 4034 Roof Coating To An RV Roof
The rule of thumb here in most cases is, the smoother the surface and glossier the paint, the shorter the nap. With the roof of the trailer being fairly smooth a 3/4" or less nap would be the better option. The manufacturer recommends a 5/16" or less nap or to use a paint brush. There's a lot of debate about sliding the roller or actually letting it roll. In my opinion sliding the roller will lead to uneven coating since you're more so just pushing the sealant around.
