RV Sealant - Non-Sag vs Self-Leveling

The kind of sealant you apply to your RV is important. To determine the type of sealant you need for your application, you will want to consider what it is you are sealing and where it is on your RV.

Self-leveling sealant is designed to level out as you apply it. The thick liquid slowly flows into a level position as gravity takes effect. This is particularly useful when sealing flat surfaces, like around a roof vent, AC, or skylight. As you apply the sealant, gravity will cause it to settle into an even line, giving you a clean, low-profile look.

Non-sag sealant is designed to retain its shape as you apply it. The consistency of the liquid is thick but malleable enough to be easily applied without causing sagging or slumping. This is useful when sealing vertical surfaces, such as the edges of a wall, window, or vent. As you apply the sealant, it will harden just enough to keep the liquid from drooping, giving you a clean, even look.

I used it to seal a roof fan in a Sprinter Van. It seems to work OK. It's gooey as all hell, and doesn't clean up with water or Acetone. No directions on the package for cleanup. But it does seem to create a nice seal

by:

Stays where you put it, no visible sag. Get the substrate clean (rubbing alcohol) before applying. Worth the high price, but that is the only reason for not giving 5 stars.

Still staying put.

by:

Product demonstrated good adhesion to the van roof as well as the plastic fan housing. Tile will tell.etrailer.com service staff , in particular Carol and George, picked up the ball that USPS fumbled and immediately resent my order . Unparalleled service !

by:

Packing was bad. The tube ends were bent over really bad. Was able to straighten them all up. Should have put some kind of packing around the ends of the caulk.

by:

Exactly what I needed and fast delivery! I will definitely use etrailer again.

by:

I needed a roof sealant compatible with my rigs PVC roof material. It was easy to find that compatibility information on the etrailer site. Called to talk with Customer Service to confirm and Ian took great care of me on this and other product related questions. Called in the morning, placed the order and it shipped that afternoon. Here in just a couple days. Setting the bar high for customer service and fast shipping in my humble opinion.

by:

I did a lot of research and settled on installing a PVC membrane. etrailer made the research and decision process simple and efficient. I really like the videos they have on the product page, it helped with making the decision. I just received the product and waiting for the rain to break and I will install it.

by:

The product(s) came quickly, I am just finishing up some repair items and then the new roof membrane will be installed. Ordering, customer service, shipping, follow up were all excellent.. so far so good doing business with eTrailer and Bailey has been very helpful.

by:

This stuff works very well. This is my second tube of this caulk. Great to seal leaky seams in an old roof, after removing the old caulk.

Customer service at etrailer is excellent.

My experience is that etrailer always has the hard-to-find items that I really need to keep the old RV in good shape.

by:

Great product, but the way you ship unreal. That's why I try avoiding buying from you. You start with UPS which get the item here to my local postal distribution center in 2 days then I have to wait another 3 days to get the item delivered by USPS... Just ship with UPS all the way and get us the item we want quickly.. no waiting....Shame on You etrailer...

by:

great product. applies easily and smooth. no leaks since applied a year ago. etrailer is the best place for all your needs.

by:

Arrived, had a small issue with one product, etrailer resolved it ASAP! It’s all good thanks!

by:

I was happy with the prompt service and the quality of the products.

by:

Received my order today as promised.Well packed and everything looked good. Will write another review when I get back to Canada and can install the various parts.Great service from this supplier.

by:

  • Recommended Replacement For A Suburban SW6DE Water Heater
Hey Jarrod, The dimensions I'm seeing for the Suburban SW6DE are showing as 12.69"h x 12.69"w x 19.19"d for the body. The access door will be a bit larger so you'll want to take a quick measurement to see which new size you'll need to fully cover any gaps and make the overall finish nice looking. You'll want to go with a Furrion water heater since they're the best performance-wise and have the least amount of troubleshooting issues. The SW6DE can produce about 10 gallons of hot water per...

  • Recommended Replacement For An Atwood GC10A-4E RV Water Heater
At this point all Atwood water heaters are discontinued and out of stock so you'd have to switch to a different option like the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR48SR. Since water heaters have gotten much smaller in size (12-5/8" wide x 12-5/8" tall x 19-1/4" deep) versus the GC10A-4E's 16" wide x 15-1/2" tall x 21" deep dimensions you'll have to frame in the cutout hole a bit to install a new water heater. It doesn't have to be fancy since you'll be covering it all up with the access...

  • How To Apply The Alpha Systems 4034 Roof Coating To An RV Roof
The rule of thumb here in most cases is, the smoother the surface and glossier the paint, the shorter the nap. With the roof of the trailer being fairly smooth a 3/4" or less nap would be the better option. The manufacturer recommends a 5/16" or less nap or to use a paint brush. There's a lot of debate about sliding the roller or actually letting it roll. In my opinion sliding the roller will lead to uneven coating since you're more so just pushing the sealant around. Keeping an even...

  • Recommended Furrion Tankless Water Heater Replacement For An Atwood GC6AA-10E
The dimensions I can find online for a GC6AA-10E show it needing a 16" x 16" door, but there are plenty of outliers out there that can require different sized doors so it's best to measure what you current have and then find the corresponding fit. The # FR48SR comes with a 16-1/8" tall x 18-1/8" wide access door, so if your measurements are 18" wide by 14.5" tall then you'd be fine with this door. If not then you could go with the # FR68SR, which has an 18" x 18" door, to fully cover...

  • What Exterior Wall Vent Can Be Used With the Furrion Ducted RV Range Hood?
For the Furrion Ducted RV Range Hood with Light # FHO23SACRBL you're going to want to use the Ventline Exterior Wall Vent for RV Range Hood - Locking Damper # V2111-55. This vent will fit in 10-1/2" wide x 3-3/4" tall rough openings and has a collar depth of 1-3/4", but you'll want to measure your trailer's walls to determine the collar depth first. If it turns out you have 5/8" collar, then you'd want to use # V2111-03 instead. Any gaps that you may have can easily be covered with HVAC...

  • Recommended Replacement For A Suburban SW6 DE RV Water Heater
Hi Michael, To replace your Suburban SW6 DE water heater you'll want the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR98SR. This tankless water heater is one of the most efficient units on the market, producing up 144 gallons of hot water per hour. The dimensions I'm seeing for your Suburban show it being roughly 12-3/4" tall by 12-3/4" wide so the # FR98SR with its 16" x 16" door would be a great fit. During the installation you're going to want to use some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the back...

  • Exterior Wall Vent Needed For A Furrion RV Range Hood
You're correct that the Furrion Ducted RV Range Hood with Light # FHO23SACRBL rear vent is only 5-7/8" long x 3-1/4" tall, whereas our vents are all larger at 10-1/2" wide x 3-3/4" tall. Typically there will be some insulation in the wall only allowing for a small bit of room for air to escape from the range hood and out the exterior vent. This is pretty typical is a residential setting as well. If you wanted to better control the way if vents you could also use HVAC tape to seal up the...

  • Recommended Replacement Roof Vent For An Airstream Flying Cloud 23D Travel Trailer
Yes, the Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # VP-543SP is the same as the 690266-01 that's already in your Airstream. I recommend picking up some plastic trim panel tools like # PTW80647 to help pull up the old sealant without scratching up the roof. You'll want to use some butyl tape # AL28FJ around the mounting flange and some non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 over the top of the flange to get a nice waterproof seal.

  • Recommended Replacement For An Atwood G6A-8E RV Water Heater
To replace your Atwood G6A-8E RV Water Heater I recommend the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - 16" x 18" Door # FR48SR. Since the G6A-8E is 12-5/8" H x 16-1/4" W x 17-5/8"D you'll need a slightly wider door than a 16" x 16" to fully cover the cutout hole. Furrion's tankless water heater is one of the best on the market and out of the brands we carry is the top choice. To install this unit you'll need to nail in some 2x2's to shorten the mounting space width down to this unit's size and...

The FWHO9A-AM refers to the unit without the door, which would be part # FR93FR for our website. If you need the door as well then we have the following sizes: 16" x 16" Door # FR98SR 16" x 18" Door # FR48SR 18" x 18" Door # FR68SR If you plan on completing the installation yourself you'll also need...

  • Replacement Unit For A Furrion FWH09AFA RV Tankless Water Heater
The FWH09AFA just refers to the main unit of the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR93FR, not including the access door. Realistically if the unit is the only problem then I would just only order it and reuse your current access door. You'll have to scrape off the sealant and butyl tape that was used to secure the door and unit to the trailer. I typically use some composite pry tools # PT73HJ to scrape this off without scratching the wall of the trailer and ruining the paint job. You'll...

You'd have to remove your old shower box and trim the hole slightly larger. Hi Richard, The arm length just dictates how far out the the awning can extend away from the trailer so you can still go with with smaller arms, you'll just likely have to fill in the old bolt holes from the previous arms. The Solera Smart Arm Electric RV Awning Conversion Kit # LC759405 is going to extend out 8' from the trailer. For the installation you'll want to pick up some butyl tape # AL28FJ and non-sag sealant # 344270341437-1 in order to prevent any water leaks.
