RV Sealant - Non-Sag vs Self-Leveling

The kind of sealant you apply to your RV is important. To determine the type of sealant you need for your application, you will want to consider what it is you are sealing and where it is on your RV.

Self-leveling sealant is designed to level out as you apply it. The thick liquid slowly flows into a level position as gravity takes effect. This is particularly useful when sealing flat surfaces, like around a roof vent, AC, or skylight. As you apply the sealant, gravity will cause it to settle into an even line, giving you a clean, low-profile look.

Non-sag sealant is designed to retain its shape as you apply it. The consistency of the liquid is thick but malleable enough to be easily applied without causing sagging or slumping. This is useful when sealing vertical surfaces, such as the edges of a wall, window, or vent. As you apply the sealant, it will harden just enough to keep the liquid from drooping, giving you a clean, even look.

Worked well for a year, a little noise in bushings, However, just this week, 15 months after install, the fan began to turn on by itself: and via the control panel would sometimes turn off when I pressed the power button, but had to disconnect the power, then re-connect, and would be okay, but now it just stays on at a high speed when connected to power.

> Now it just turns on when I connect power, and none of the control panel buttons do anything.
>
> It is connected to 12 V system 2 100 ah lithium batteries to buss bar fuse box.
>
Wow, ad for over $200, you would think this thing would be a bit more resilient, What a shame, cheap manufacturing, for great earnings for Maxxfan executives.

> What can be done to fix this control panel issue?

by:

Easy to work with and it is just like the OEM used to seal the roof during assembly.

by:

Easy to use. Self leveling.

Great product. Easy application and sea ling.

by:

Not the review you want. I am a tech who purchased and installed for a client. They can not called to complain so I suppose it is fine.

by:

Works great. Holds seal tight after 1 y ear.

by:

This was thicker and more difficult to apply than I had anticipated. That said, I do think it worked ok to caulk around the refrigerator vent on an old camper trailer I have. It was an unusually cold day when I applied it so that may have contributed to my difficulties.

by:

Great communication thru the whole ordering and shipping process, so important these days.

by:

This product was awesome. Shipping and packaging could be a lot better. No tracking number and damaged product when it arrived not due to shipping but packaging.

Item was delivered on time. I have not used it yet but from previous reviews online I am sure I will have no problem using it to seal a new MaxAir fan that I have also ordered from E-Trail

Great customer service!

Great product

by:

Installed a new 14 x 14 ceiling vent. There was enough product in this tube to adequately seal around the entire vent. It did "self-level". The application is smooth and sealed. It set up for several days out of the weather adn we did not experience any visible leaks inside during or after an extreme thunderstorm.

by:

I read the instructions, followed what they said to do and I had great results. No leaks Thank you so much!!

by:

The box arrived with both tubes of sealant rolling around loosely inside. The ends of the cardboard tubes are compressed in, one of the long application tubes is bent way over, and the other tube has sealant leaking out. I hope I can use the tubes of sealant if they are not dried out or the tubes holds up well enough to get the material out without a blowout. I have had 100% great products and service with etrailer but this time I am a bit disappointed in the packing of the product.

I recommend setting the sealant tube in warm or hot water to allow it to loosen up before using. It may allow it to flow better.

This will be great to use on our 5th wheel.

  • How To Apply The Alpha Systems 4034 Roof Coating To An RV Roof
The rule of thumb here in most cases is, the smoother the surface and glossier the paint, the shorter the nap. With the roof of the trailer being fairly smooth a 3/4" or less nap would be the better option. The manufacturer recommends a 5/16" or less nap or to use a paint brush. There's a lot of debate about sliding the roller or actually letting it roll. In my opinion sliding the roller will lead to uneven coating since you're more so just pushing the sealant around. Keeping an even...

  • Are Other Parts Needed When Installing A Complete AC System
If you're installing the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner System # ADV94FR as a second unit that's completely separate you'd most likely only need to purchase some wiring to go from the controller to wherever you plan on mounting the thermostat and just some electrical connectors to complete your connections. If the space doesn't have AC wiring ran to it then you would also have to run the wire and install a circuit breaker in your power center in order to power the system. You wouldn't...

The Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing # AL33FJ is 3/4" wide and would be sufficient to use for installing the roof vent. It is 3/16" thick, we do recommend that you use butyl tape that is at least 3/16" thick. You will also want to use some LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant # 34427034145-1...
