go power portable solar system

The Go Power portable solar system provides an easy way to charge your RV batteries with clean, renewable power. Using the 130-watt foldable solar panel, this system collects solar energy to create DC power that passes through a solar charge controller into your RV batteries. The kit includes several adapters to suit your charging application. Also, it comes in a heavy-duty, nylon carrying case for convenient transport and storage.

If you occasionally dry camp with your RV, this kit is a perfect solution for charging batteries while you're away from shore power. And since the system is portable and flexible, you can choose where to place the panel and charge other batteries using solar power as well. It's also a great complement to your rooftop RV solar panels, providing an extra boost of charge when you need it.

High-Efficiency, Monocrystalline Solar Panel

go power portable solar kit folded

The charging process starts with the solar panel, which unfolds and uses adjustable legs for support. When solar energy interacts with the silicon cells in the panel, it generates a flow of DC electrical current that charges your RV's batteries. Each of the monocrystalline cells is made from a single crystal of silicon, so the electrons that create the current have more space to move, making this panel more efficient than one with polycrystalline cells. And in optimal sunlight conditions, the panel produces 130 watts per hour.

The silicon cells are set between a cushioned backing material and tempered solar glass to withstand the elements. The glass has low-iron content to provide exceptional transparency, which ensures maximum sunlight collection. Finally, the panel is framed with anodized marine-grade aluminum to resist rust and corrosion.

Smart Solar Controller Charges and Protects Battery Bank

go power solar charge controller

The solar controller prevents harmful overcharging by adjusting the power generated by the solar panel before it reaches your batteries. It uses pulse width modulation technology to regulate the output through pulses that provide a consistent charge. Typically, this type of technology is a good fit for smaller systems with lower voltages.

Using a multistage charging system, the controller automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. The controller is compatible with multiple battery types and includes preset charging profiles for sealed/gel, AGM, flooded/wet cell, and lithium batteries.

Charging Modes

  1. Bulk: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. As the name suggests, this is where the bulk of the charging happens. It typically charges the battery to at least 80% capacity.
  2. Absorption: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery reaches between 80% to 90% capacity, the absorption state will kick in and start charging at a regulated voltage. In each charging profile, this mode is set to last for 30 minutes after the bulk charge is completed.
  3. Float: Once the battery reaches full charge, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: On flooded/wet cell batteries, this mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended float cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

The backlit, digital display acts as an information center for your solar panel output. It shows the charging current, battery voltage, and battery state of charge. It also allows you to input your battery type and choose a charging profile. Additionally, a built-in USB port on the front of the controller provides a convenient outlet to charge your cell phone or tablet.

Lastly, the controller includes several built-in safety features to help protect your equipment. The charging process will shut down if the controller starts to overheat and when an overcurrent is detected. Also, if the battery or solar panel is wired incorrectly, it activates a reverse polarity alarm.

Easy-to-Use Adapters for Battery Connection

xlr style plugsae solar plugbattery clampsbattery terminals7-pin

This kit includes several adapters to suit different applications. It comes with XLR-style and SAE solar plugs, which work with RVs that are pre-wired for solar, including Zamp solar ports. For traditional battery connections, it has battery clamps and battery terminals. Additionally, a 7-pin trailer adapter (sold separately) provides another connection to your 5th wheel or camper. Each adapter has an Anderson connector which plugs into the portable solar panel.

Heavy-Duty, Nylon Carrying Case

The durable, nylon carrying case has a rigid exterior and soft interior to help protect your panel during storage and transport.

Available Extension Cable

Great purchase. A lot of my camping is in tree covered sites. I can move this around as needed to gather the sun, as opposed to a roof install. (Both have benefits.) I also use this to charge up my boat batteries where I don't have to electricity.

by:

Everything works as advertised. I did have to tighten up a few bolts for the support arms when I unpacked the Solar Panel Kit. I initially thought that there was a nylon washer missing, but it had fallen off when one of the wingnuts came loose (presumably after factory assembly). I was curious about the coating difference on the back of the two panels (one panel has a heavier coating as evident in the photo). I contacted GoPower customer service and they assured me this was not an issue for the performance of the unit. They said something about extra coating to protect the cables, etc. on one of the units. Not sure I buy that explanation, but I feel confident that the panels will work fine independent of the coating difference. I had the unit charging my 5th Wheel batteries for a couple hours and was able to confirm the panels put out the max specified current when the sun peaked through the clouds. Can't wait to go camping again (after COVID-19 restrictions lift).

by:

This Go Power solar unit worked great. With full sun it is fast charging and easy to set up. We used it in national forest campground with no hook ups available. As long as we had adequate sun it kept my two batteries charged. Great product.

by:

There were bolts missing on the support and screws on the bottom of box I need to find out where they go. Others than that the company selling was great.

by:

Thanks for for checking in. I haven't had a chance to use the panel yet. I did hook it up to my trailer in the driveway to charge the house batteries. I do like the heavy duty construction of the panel and all of the components. When we take a dry camping trip I will follow up with a review and pics. Thanks

Great panel, keeps the 2 24 series batteries fully charged. We have been doing mostly dry camping with no problems.

Purchased for a "solar ready" connection to my Airstream Basecamp (basecamps have panels on the roof which are sometimes under a lovely tree.) Package is perfect, has everything you need including the pin adapter for the Basecamp. Always a pleasure to deal with eTrailers!

Great!

The ordering and shipping process was excellent however the product quality was shabby at best. I took the product out of the box hooked it up and it was not working. The controller screen was showing zero amps going to the battery. I inspected the wiring from the panel to the controller and discovered that the negative wire was detached. Shabby workmanship and inspection. I re-attached the negative wire and it seems to be working now. Disappointed as I specifically purchased the GO Power system thinking it was a better product.

I bought this solar panel kit in the hopes that I could have enough solar generated power to meet my needs when boon docking and not have to lug my generator around with me. My rig uses 2 Group24 deep cycle lead acid batteries along with a 1000Watt inverter to charge electronic devices, run a small 4 cup coffee maker a couple of times a day and of course power my water pump, led interior lights and heater fan when needed.

For the most part it works, however, from my experience it requires at least 5-6 hours a day of sunlight to make all of that happen and keep my batteries topped off. Even here in New Mexico in the middle of summer, I have never seen it charge at greater than 7amps which is disappointing since it is rated at 10amps.

Given all of that, I still need to bring my generator along as backup, especially when camping in wooded areas and during the rainy season.

The quality is top notch. Glad I bought it but disappointed in its performance in general.

by:

Solid panels and converter/controller! The panels include aluminum mounting brackets that are adjustable, plus you can place big rocks on them to hold the panels in place if it’s windy. The Kit comes with a bag full of assorted connectors to work with most every system.

by:

My purchase of the Go Power Solar Panel (130 watt) was a tough decision to make. Turns out to be a great asset. It keeps my living quarter horse trailer charged with no difficulty. I am a conservative user of power but find myself happy to use lights, water pump etc; feels good. Easy to use, even loaned out to a friend, when they were having battery issues.

by:

Very happy with this product. Came with several connection options which was great. One opportunity for improvement would be if Go Power added a few brackets with holes so this could be locked while in use to help prevent theft. Good experience here! KP

by:

Love it! We use it with a lithium ion 12 volt battery. Charges quickly, no fuss. It was the last thing we purchased before taking off on a 5000 mile two month road trip. So many of the parts we had installed to update our 2003 Casita travel trailer had involved a steep learning curve, our brains and dispositions were overtaxed. it was a relief to unpack the solar panel and realize all we had to do was plug it in.

by:

All is as expected. One suggestion would be to have a pig tail connection to dispense power from the solar panels before the electronics (charge controller). I needed to have raw solar panel output to feed into a battery bank that has its own charge controller. Fortunately, there was enough room on the terminal block to allow me to insert short wire segments to end with a simple 110 Socket, with the polarity preserved. I can extend that feed at will and put in an appropriate 8 MM male end.

Works fine with my equipment.

Thanks.

PS The various cables and extension supplied where of high quality.

by:

I have used the generator a few times to test my battery charger inverter and once on a 4 hour blackout. Recently I used it to power my 110/220 volt welder. I was very pleased with the results. This generator is very easy to start. I have used only propane. If I ever use gasoline, I expect the same results. Easy to start and confidence in voltage.

by:

The solar panel setup was easy to install. I just wired the adapter to the batteries and attached it to the underside of the trailer. The panels fit in our storage area under the bed, and are super easy to deploy. We usually dry camp for 3-5 days, so we use it to top off the batteries.

by:

Hooked up as soon as I received the kit! I had two batteries that had been on the charger in the trailer all week. They were still not fully charged and at 11.93 volts. The solar brought both batteries up to full charge. A two weeks ago I ran my batteries down and couldn’t get up to strength to raise and lower the tongue jack to hitch up to leave the camp site - bad scene! Several years ago I bought this kit from another company. I decided with a generator I would never use it so I returned - bad decision. I will never be without this system!

by:

Have used this panel for a year now. I have found it very durable in the world of off the grid camping. Through all type of weather especially in hot conditions. No problems, issues or misgivings. Would highly recommend for off the grid camping when you need the power back up.
One thing that I would recommend is the extension cable to follow the suns direction.

by:

I am very satisfied with the solar panels I bought, great quality and great customer service. I have never had a bad experience with etrailer or with any product that I have purchased with them. I will continue to do business with them. Thank you etrailer for being customer oriented!

I am sorry to hear you are having some complications with the controller of this panel. I have sent your information over to our customer service department for them to better assist you.

by:

The kit was delivered within 3 days as promised. The unit is well build with quality materials and I like the carrying case and the multiple connectors provided. I also appreciate the simplicity of design and ease of use. However I did have a couple issues…

Upon initial hook up I got a POL (reverse polarity) warning. After thoroughly reviewing the meager paper instructions and the more detailed online instructions I was able to troubleshoot the problem. The solar input wires to the controller were reversed from the factory. It was easy to swap the wires and then everything worked fine. I recall someone else commenting that they had the exact same issue. Seems like a quality control issue at the factory!

The only other issue was that one of the plastic protective feet was missing from one of the panel support legs. A call to etrailer customer support (Gwen) resulted in a replacement foot being shipped out to me the next day.

As far as performance of the unit hooked up to the camper in my yard, so far so good. We’re headed out on our first boondocking trip this weekend so we’ll see how it performs under remote campground conditions.

by:

Easy to set up and use. Would recommend an extension cord to be able to "chase" the sun if in a shady area. We like the 7-pin connector. So convenient with no additional attachments on the battery. Can't go wrong with GO Power products.

by:

This unit works great. I bought a larger unit than I need, but I always buy overage and over design everything I build. This is the first thing out of the truck and the last thing reloaded. I bought the accessory that allows me to plug directly into the trailer wire. Just got back from a 12 day boon-docking trip and never ran out of battery.

by:

I have bought products from E-trailer for several years and your products and prices have always been top shelf, thanks

Have had the panels out for charging our rv single battery and they work flawlessly. Simple connect and your up and charging.

by:

More power is always better. This set is designed to plug and play with the roof-mounted panel system on our new Lance travel-trailer. Purchased this with the extension cable. Good size and quality with a nice padded case. The nuts needed tightening but that happens during shipping. I have yet to field test it, but quality appears good.

by:

I can always count on knowledgeable people, great service, and great products from etrailer. And great information as well. Long time customer. This time we ordered solar for our fifth wheel. It arrived in perfect shape in 3 days. etrailer is my “go to” for RV products. Plan on using our 130 Watt Go Power Solar unit to keep our residential refrigerator running (batteries charged) while boondocking.

  • Best Portable Solar Panels For A 2022 Flagstaff E-Pro 19FD Travel Trailer
To add more solar panels to your trailer you'll need to ensure that the solar charge controller can handle the load before purchasing additional panels and you'll want to purchase the same wattage. For example, if you add in a 100 watt panel the system will essentially downgrade your 190 watt panel to 100 watts and you'd only have 200 watts between the two panels. Typically the side ports for solar are SAE connectors and they're ran directly to the battery without a controller looped...
