Video Transcript for Review of OptiMate RV Solar Panels - Roof Mounted Solar Kit - MA36JR
Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this OptiMate 60 watts solar panel with the solar controller. Now, this is a permanent mount solar system, provides an energy saving charging solution for lead-acid batteries. The battery type this will support are flooded, AGM, and gel batteries. And this one I mentioned is a permanent mount solar charging system, so they'll let you mount the solar panel where you need it for maximum sunlight. If you noticed, on each corner, it has these large mounting brackets that you can put your screws through to install it.
Now, the hardware to install this is not included, you would have to supply that. This kit here will include the 60 watts solar panel with the built-in solar cable. I've already plugged in, it comes with the solar controller with the SAE connector, comes with some battery clamp cables to connect to your battery, or some ring terminal cables, and a nice operator's manual to describe how this all goes together and how it operates. Now, this is a 60 watt polycrystalline solar panel that'll use the sunlight to charge your vehicle's batteries. The solar panel has an IP54 rating.
I mentioned it is polycrystalline construction, and that can harvest your energy more effectively from scattered sun rays like a partially shaded area or angled sun rays, so this will allow for more consistent power from varying sun conditions. It is made of weatherproof materials to stand up to the elements. The cable length we mentioned on this panel, if we unwrap this, it would be about 80 inches long. Now, I did wanna talk about the solar controller. If we zoom in right here, and again, I've already plugged it in you can see, but the solar controller, this will adjust the solar panel output for a nice, quick, consistent charge.
It uses an automatic multistage smart charging system to help extend the battery life, has an LED display on it, and actually, if you can look right here, you can probably see the red light is already on, that's showing that it's using the light in this studio here, and its solar panel's absorbing that light already. The controller cable length is about 40 inches. Now, to connect this, let me zoom back out here, to connect this to your battery, you'll take this other SAE connector on the opposite end of the solar controller and plug it into either the battery clamps, or if you want a more permanent connection, you can plug it into the ring terminals. Now, this does use a dual method smart charging system, which will help efficiently charge the battery in any weather. Does provide continuous charge in full sun and a pulse charge in the low light.
This will even save your dead battery from as low as one volt. Specs on this, the application is 12 volt batteries from 2 to 240 amp-hours, the solar panel voltage is 12 volts, we mentioned the solar panel rate of power is 60 watts, and the last thing I wanna do is just mention the dimensions on this panel. I measured at the widest point, which would be where these brackets are, so it's gonna be 27 inches wide, it's gonna be 26 inches tall, and the depth of this panel is only about 1 1/4 inches deep. But that should do it for the review on this OptiMate 60 watts solar panel with the solar controller..
