If you've ever stepped into a camper that has standard metal steps, you've probably felt that scary springboard effect that makes you reach for the handle. That bounce occurs because those pull-out steps never touch the ground. Fold-down steps have adjustable legs that steady the steps on the ground, so you can feel safe using them. Also, fold-down steps store behind your camper door, which means they aren't left out in the elements to rust or warp like factory steps.
But what makes these MORryde steps different from other fold-down steps, like the Lippert SolidSteps? The StepAbove has a couple advantages over the SolidStep.
First, the MORryde steps can be detached when you need park your camper in tight spots. If you have to park close to another vehicle in a storage lot, for example, there might not be enough clearance to deploy your steps. With SolidStep, this means that you can't deploy the steps and now they are blocking your entryway. MORryde steps can be easily detached by sliding the pins out of the floor hinges, which allows you to lift the steps out of the doorway so you can slip inside if needed.
Second, unlike the SolidSteps which have a solid backplate on the top step, the StepAbove has no backplates blocking the gaps between each step. This makes it easy to sweep the steps free of dirt and debris before folding them up in your doorway, so you aren't stuck cleaning up your entry after every hike or trip.
Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and 5th wheels. The fold-down steps from MORryde install inside your camper's door frame and lift up to latch into the doorway for storage. To ensure that you choose the correct size for your application, follow these 3 easy steps:
Step 1: Measure the Entry Height
Measure from the doorway threshold on your camper to the ground. For these steps to work, you will need an entry height between 34" and 36".
If you find that you have a smaller or larger entry height, there are other step assemblies that fit entry heights ranging from 25" to 42". (See table below.)
Step 2: Measure the Doorway Width
Measure from the inside of your door flange to the inside of the door flange on the opposite side. Your doorway will need to be between 21-3/4" wide and 22-1/4" wide for these steps to work.
If it turns out that you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 21-3/4" wide to 30-1/2" wide. (See table below.)
Step 3: Measure the Threshold
Measure the rise of your threshold. The distance between the floor and top of the threshold must be between 5/8" and 3/4". If the height of your threshold is outside of this range, the doors may not close properly.
To allow room for the hinge plate, there must be a gap of at least 3/8" between the threshold and the bottom of the entry and screen doors. If the gap is too narrow, the doors may not close while the steps are down.
If, after taking your camper's measurements, you find that these steps will not work for you, use the table below to determine which part number you need.

Sturdy RV steps adjust to rough terrain, eliminating the springboard effect and providing a wobble-free step into your camper. Easily detach for parking in a tight spot. Fits a threshold-to-ground height between 34" and 36".I live in high country Colorado and my camper is under several feet of snow so I have not been able to check ladder out, but it seems like it weighs a lot in the box that is unopened-probably a good thing.
Very pleased with the installation, fit and finish
The steps worked as designed. The only issue was the shipping package did not prevent damage. I had to reform the catches used to grab the door jams for them to work properly. Other than that, the shipping was on time and I was able to quickly install them with some door modifications (which I knew was needed) before going on a 4 day camping trip.
Perfect fit for my 1960 Cadillac camper
Perfect
Good quality and excellent service.
Ordered MORryde StepAbove RV Steps for my Rpod 196. They fit perfectly! I had to make one small adjustment since on the 196 the door does not open completely due to the tire fender. For this install, the stairs are not exactly centered in the doorway, This is NOT a problem. a little adjusting of the doorway latches and it works perfectly. This is a HUGE improvement over the stock steps and we are thrilled with the sturdy steps and the additional width and depth they offer. Another thing to consider, installation is EASY! Anyone could put one of these on their RV. The hardest part of the entire job was lugging the awkward box to the trailer.
I have ordered from etrailer in the past and, as always, service and communication is superb.
The MORryde StepAbove RV Steps for 23-3/4" to 26-1/4" Wide Doorways - 3 Steps came more quickly than I expected. They were easy to install and worked well. Everything including easy to follow instructions was included. I have included photos of the finished installation and we will be posting a video of the installation on our [online video], Go With the Flow Couple.
Nice and solid! I did have to remove my original steps as the new ones his and would not mount correctly. No big deal! I love them!
The steps work as described, but, facing the steps from outside the latch on the left, came out of the box bent. I straightened him as best I could. but would appreciate a new latch sent. I’ve enclosed pictures of the box and the latch. The one on the right is fine.
THIS MUST BE YOUR FIRST UPGRADE IF YOUR CAMPER DIDNT COME WITH THESE STEPS…
I finally got time to install it! It took more time to read the instructions (2 times to be sure) than putting them on the camper, it is like day and night, no more rocking the whole camper as you enter or exit, no more twisting the aftermarket “stabilizers” I had on my old steps, and best of all, no more wobbling when you step on it. Don’t be discouraged if at first it doesn’t look like it’s gonna work, I thought I was gonna have to shave a piece of my screen door when I first tested it because the latch wouldn’t let it close, but after I tightened all the screws to the floor it close just fine (a little snug but latched with no problem) without any modifications to the door.
This product is great, it came perfectly packed (I was a little worried as some people said theirs got bent or was missing parts), delivery was fast, and I have to give etrailer customer service 5 starts also because if they wouldn’t have answered all my questions and concerns when I was in search of these steps I probably would have never bought them. So as of today I’m a very happy customer, and absolutely recommend etrailer and it’s products for any campers needs… as for the handle for the steps ($[XX] extra) it works but not really thrilled about its looks or firmness to be used as a safety hand rail.
I ordered the Morryde RV steps and was emailed back the next day that the steps are on backorder. I waited for almost 14 days and called to follow up on status on steps and talked to Carol from etrailer. Carol was very understanding as I mentioned that would like to get the stairs before my RV trip and she said they may not make it before the trip. Told her to keep me updated as would really like use these for this trip. It was only couple days later I received my Morryde steps and installed them. I was surprised to receive my order so fast after my call to Carol at etrailer. I didn't think I was going to have my steps in for my trip. Want to thank Carol for her quick response and turn around of the steps that were back ordered at the time of my call. Thank you Carol and etrailer!
The steps work great. They are easy to install and very sturdy.
Steps are easy to install, and afford easy entry to my RV. However I did have to cut the entry door and the screen door down so the doors would clear the threshold of the steps. Not a problem if you have the proper tools to do it with. It is a 100% improvement over the factory steps on the unit.
These stairs were a huge upgrade for our travel trailer. The original stairs were heavy and unwieldy and often would not even reach the ground if the trailer was on uneven terrain.
Having the strut assist made sure that the stairs would not fall on us and were easy to life for both my wife and I. The only downside to the strut assit was the cover for the shock was large and sometimes I would hit my foot on it when walking by.
The stairs are easy to install if you follow etrailers guide for measuring your trailer and pick the right model number. It is easier if you have two people to install these, but I was able to install them myself without help.
I recommend these stairs for anyone who has trouble lifting the OEM stairs or wants a safer set of stairs for their trailer.
I'm hoping these will hold up... I received the steps and immediately found metal peeled back. The hinge was also bent. The threshold catches had one that the part that catches on the door frame was bent, and made it unable to open until I bent it back in place by hand. The good is that they look nice, and they are light to lift. So I guess those are the tradeoffs.
The steps fit perfect. Instructions included installation for both mounting panels. However, my original had the larger panel, and the instructions for the smaller panel didn't really apply. I had to measure from the hinge line to make sure I put the stairs in the correct position. I am VERY pleased with my purchase.
Excellent quality steps are very sturdy. Easy installation. etrailer is a great company to deal with especially if you have a return no hassle return. My first choice when looking for items!
StepAbove RV Steps really are a "step above". I am actually purchasing a 3-step version to replace the 2-step version that came on our trailer.
We converted the axles to overslung, so we gained about 5" in height and require the 3-step. So much do we like these steps, we didn't even consider anything different.
MORE IMPORTANTLY: etrailer HAD the STP-207 part number that we need. I originally ordered at the evil "World". They had it $20 less expensive and SAID on the 20th of June that they would ship on the 21st.
When I canceled the order at "Evil World", it was STILL BACKORDERED INDEFINITELY, yet the "World" had ALREADY taken FULL payment.
etrailer did not take my money until it shipped... which was SAME DAY and it arrived 2 days later including the day I ordered it, which was 2 days EARLY.
I'll be an etrailer guy first from now on.
Installation took 30 minutes! A very good investment for our rig. The steps are so solid and our 9 year old dog has a much easier time getting up and down them. Another benefit is I put the step covers on and I don't have to remove them to stow the steps. This is a great product and adds to the value of iur travel trailer.
An absolute game changer for getting in and out of the trailer. Worth every penny. Easy to install, easy to remove if needed.
Solid build and quality, but poor design. For the good qualities, see the "ultimate overview" video from etrailer. All the points are accurate and provide a good representation of the stairs. The bad is the stair rise/run - the 9" rise (more like 10" from the threshold/hinge plate to the top step) is too much, and is difficult for anyone a little unstable on their feet, or children, to negotiate. In addition, the horizontal gap, open space, between the front of the steps to the rear of the next step down (viewed from above) is 3"! I have rolled my ankle several times as I've turned while on the stairs and put my foot partially into that gap. My grandchildren have also slipped and put their leg through the stair gap. I've had the steps for a year, and unfortunately, these are the only ground-supported steps that etrailer sells that will fit my trailer dimensions. I will continue to look for stairs that have a safer pitch that will also fit my camper. These are dangerous, in my opinion, in their current design. I wasn't planning to do a negative review, but got the "1 year" followup email from etrailer asking about the steps, and was just commenting on the steps during our last camping trip this past weekend!
etrailer is great to work with, just disappointed with this stairs design.
