Will Flexco Pull-Out Steps Work for You?
Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The Flexco pull-out steps from Stromberg Carlson are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Lippert pull-out steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25" wide and 6" deep.
If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 21-1/16" wide to 28-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.
Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.
Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 3" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom steps to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.
The chart below displays mounting bracket width measurements in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.
This page's step assembly is in bold text.
Mounting Bracket Width | Entry Height | Part Number |
---|---|---|
21-1/16" | 14-1/2" - 17-1/2" | SMFP-1120 |
23-5/8" | 19" - 22" | SMFP-2120 |
24-1/4" | 10-1/2" - 13-1/2" | SMFP-1220 |
25" | 14-1/2" - 17-1/2" | SMFP-1100 |
26" | 19" - 22" | SMFP-2100 |
27-1/8" | 30" - 33" | SMFP-3200L |
28-1/8" | 26" - 29" | SMFP-3100 |
28-1/8" | 34" - 37" | SMFP-4400 |
28-1/4" | 10-1/2" - 13-1/2" | SMFP-1200 |

It worked out great on my cargo trailer. A few little alterations and it worked out just fine.
The step is well built and very sturdy. It came with the slip strip on and is just well built and price was very fair. It was simple installation. We had it on the day it was delivered. Great communication with etrailers on shipping from Manufacturer. Thank you
We purchased a used C-Class without a step. This step worked great. Looks great also. Was easy to install. E-trailer delivered as promised and had the best price. Do not need an outside step to get in RV.
Your team is exceptionally responsive and helpful! In the future, I will go to e.trailer first to find RV parts for my Airstream
Great step.... I bought one a few weeks ago for my flat bed loved it love much I bought one for the other side. Ha
It is what i needed at my old age.
I chose not to rebuild an electric step as it gets very expensive. I saw this Flexco manual step for only $45 and decided this was the fix I would go with. A manual step flips in and out quickly and easily, I don't have to fumble with a switch and wait for a pokey motor to fully extend it. The Flexco step is much lighter than the electric step, way less parts to fail. It is made of heavy gauge steel, is fat man friendly and maneuvers flawlessly. The Holes didn't line up perfectly with the bolts on my motorhome but why would they? I didn't expect them too and the spacing is clearly marked in the description. I was fortunate in that the Flexco slid over the base plate from the existing step. I cut the pieces from that base plate and bolted the Flexco to it then bolting the base plate back onto the motor home. This Flexco was the least costly option I found. I'm happy with it. The perforations in the step surface will add traction and allow rain, mud and sand to fall through instead of being tracked. I have ordered from Etrailer before I was already happy with their efficiency and trusted them.

Still holding up nicely, no electronic parts to fail.
My company is building a custom outdoor kitchen trailer for a customer. We needed a step that was both sturdy and able to stow away for travel. The Flexco step was the perfect fit for our needs. I look forward to ordering from etrailer again soon.

Hello, How high is the entry door off ground, also does the step leave plenty of clearance when installed? Thanks. I am building a mobile kitchen also.

Mark M...I believe the floor height was about 16-17 inches off the ground. This step was almost perfectly mid way so it was well balanced...no low step high step situation.
Product is exactly what I was thinking it was going to be
received step and it was as described. step was mounted on a 1997 Itasca Spirit class C motorhome. The side to side bolt pattern on step was a about 2.5" narrower than side to side mounting bolts on my RV. front to back was the same. I just bolted 2 - 1" X 1/4 strap steal to RV. One across the 2 back bolts and one across the 2 front bolts then bolted step to the strap metal pieces. Since the step was as described I had the strap metal all ready to go when step arrived so mounting step was a snap and it works great. Now I don't have to haul around and extra safety step every where I go. My RV is only 21" and storage space is limited. YAAAAAA!!
Well I have not had chance to install it yet Since I'm awaiting the new trailer to arrive. As for the steps. I opened box and first thing I noticed is that the slip grip self adhesions tape is half peeled off inside box. Not impressed n I haven't even impede the other box yet
Mounted this at the escape door on my "too high to step up into" horse trailer. It has worked perfectly and always leaves me enough ground clearance even in the hill country.
Purchased this step not for an RV but for my new plumbing work truck that has a high bumper but no step. Easy to install and solved the problem.
My second attempt at securing replacement steps for my rv, the first one had wrong configuration, this second one o cannot entirely lock the step in place because of the trailer frame. It kinda hangs there half locked half unlocked. I guess it will be ok .
Nice item, not hard to install, the video explains everything you need to know about the item

Both products continue to work just fine and as expected. Happy with both purchases. Thanks for the follow up.
am using these to go under service bed boxes. they will work, but the 3" drop ones are much better for this application. gonna see if i can return the 7" drop one and get a couple more of 3" ones. are probably just fine for a camp trailer, though.
looks good but no instructions about suggesting fastners

Perfect exactly what we needed, simple to install
The step is very well made. Installation was very easy.
etrailer went above and beyond with shipping and delivery..
Very happy !!!
Excellent heavy duty well built step for my trailer. Easy to install and use. Fast shipping.
I am very pleased with the pull-out step that I bought last year for our 1983 Jayco Mini camper. It is sturdy and holding up well. The bolt holes matched up perfectly for installation.
etrailer shines on this one, the step got there 2 days earlier than expected and took about 20 min. to install (only because two of my old holes did not line up) it is very sturdy I am a bigger guy and I was worried that the wider step would have some flex in the middle but it is very solid, very happy with this product.
Looks great, just as described on the add. I'll used it for a different application than an RV(Truck step). Do you manufacture smaller ones, less than 24"?
Mounted within minutes.
Would help if a drilling template was included or printed on inner box lid.
Made my own and just finished drilling and taping the mounting holes on the trailer.
Product is sturdy. and works well.
With the 4" frame the step is still a little large (11-1/2").
