Construction and Performance Testing
To ensure consistent performance and long life expectancy from each and every product, all Jensen products go through rigorous construction and performance testing to see how each stands up under extreme temperatures, vibration, signal disruption, static build up, and severe electrical spikes.
Extreme Temperature and Humidity Test
Many mobile applications are exposed to varying temperatures and levels of humidity throughout their travels. To ensure that their electronics can withstand this, Jensen tests the product's exposure to these conditions over long periods of time, studying the internal circuitry's effectiveness in resisting corrosion.
Vibration Test
Because your travels may take you over rugged terrain, protecting your electronics is important. The Vibration Test is performed at 4G's over a 9 hour span, in a machine that simulates constant random frequency vibrations, both operational and non-operational. This detects any potential weaknesses in the construction or internal components, and assists in calculating the life expectancy of the product.
Radio-Frequency Performance Test
Radio-frequency (RF) performance refers to the various frequencies available on the electromagnetic spectrum that sends radio waves to your AM/FM tuner, and how effective the unit is in filtering through those signals. This test makes sure the components of the product are accepting and keeping in the clean signals, while rejecting or blocking out the bad signals. This equates to a steady signal during unit operation, with little to no interference from other electronics that may be nearby. Jensen uses over 80 performance tests to analyze and validate the filtering of radio waves for smooth, steady audio.
Electrostatic Discharge Test
Static builds up easily on anything electronic, which means not only can accidental shock occur, it could potentially damage your product's system. Electrostatic Discharge testing tests all the exposed areas on the unit - including the input/output connections - and makes sure any static build up will not hurt you or your product's system.
Severe Electrical Environment Test (or Load Dump Test)
A load dump is either a failure of energy supply from the alternator to the battery or a large voltage spike that could harm the product's electrical circuitry. The alternator generates current to load the product's battery. When a load dump occurs, and the alternator is working to send energy to the battery, the alternator will disconnect from the battery, potentially causing harm to the product's internal system. The Severe Electrical Environment Test simulates high voltage spikes or pulses to make sure that when the alternator disconnects from the battery, no damage occurs to the alternator, battery, or unit as a whole.

Today we're gonna take a look at the Jensen Heavy Duty AM/FM - Weatherband - iPod - iPhone and Sirius XM Ready Stereo. Now this is a heavy duty stereo which is designed to be one of the most rugged stereos available in the industry. It's built to deliver high quality audio without sacrificing feature content, all while withstanding the challenging conditions encountered in heavy duty environments. Now to meet the heavy duty label, it has to meet many testing standards: Basically, it goes through an extreme temperature test, a vibration test, a RF performance test, an electrostatic discharge test, and a severe electrical environment test. This is an electronic AM/FM tuner. Maximum power output is 180 watts, or 45 watts x 4 channel. It is Sirius XM Satellite-ready.
Now the Sirius subscription and tuner is required to be able to do that. It also has a NOAA 7-channel weather band with SAME technology. Also, uses a 12- or 24-hour selectable clock, has an encoder knob volume control. It does offer equalizer presets, either flat, rock, pop, classical, or user setting. Does have beat tone confirmation that you can turn on or off, whatever you prefer. The controls are all amber backlighted, and they do have a front and rear, let me pop this down.
There's a little door here. If you pop it down, you can see the front, AUX in port, and they also have a rear AUX input, and also there's USB. So it is iPod-, iPhone-ready via the USB. The USB is a 2.0 for playback of MP3 and WMA audio files. Does have preamp RCA output, and it is public announcement ready.
You can also use an infrared wireless remote with this. The remote would be sold separately. Now this part includes everything shown here on the table, includes: the stereo itself, a plug-in wiring harness, the mounting hardware. It includes these two items, which are the DIN sleeve removal tool, that you insert in there to remove the sleeve on the radio, and a nice installation and operations manual. Now just to give you some measurements on this, let me get a ruler. We're gonna give you the overall dimensions. We're gonna give you the width, which the widest part will be right at the faceplate here.
So if we put the ruler on it, it's right at 7-1/2" wide. The overall height is right at 2-1/4" tall. And the total depth on it, front to the back, now if we go to the front of the faceplate, it's about 7" and if we go to back of the faceplate, like the mounting depth is about right at 6-1/4". But that should do it for the review on the Jensen Heavy Duty AM/FM - Weatherband - iPod - iPhone and Sirius XM Ready Stereo.
