So far, so good. Took about a minute to run through it's diagnostics, then all good to go.
Bought this because the last army corp campground we stayed at, had problems with the power going on and off.
Will feel a little more protected now.

Works great, and with the 30 amp adapter, can use it with 30 or 50.

The CAM55306 looks well made. Received the item in a couple days plugged it in and in a couple minutes camper powered up. Every thing's working fine. While away from the camper had power outage everything came back on no problems. One less thing to worry about. Thanks for a great product at a better price than competition.

Great product for RV protection. Gives you a piece of mind knowing that your rv has this electrical protection

by:

Put the product to work the weekend after receiving it in the mail from etrailer. Worked immediately to protect our electrical system. Only saw the green light during our stay in the RV resort but having it gives me peace of mind.

Still working fine protecting our electrical system. Also have found the loops on the handles make it easy to cable lock my power cord and the voltage protector to the RV site power box.

by:

Yes I would purchase again. It's comforting knowing I don't have to worry about surges to my RV. For me it's no problem but it could be a little heavy and cumbersome for some older folks. I devised my own cable locking system to the elect. box just incase Im in a park where I don't trust everyone. This is such a nice item to have someone else may want it more than me.

Still working great, would purchase again.

The Camco RV Power defender has worked well for me over the last year of ownership and full-time RVing. On the exterior: generally it’s held up well, but has shown some wear.

Pros:
It has caught many low voltage situations where power has been unsteady.
It has brought a lot of piece of mind knowing the electrical system is protected.

Cons:
Slow to boot up on first plug in or after power issue detection.
Much larger than the competition.

Tip:
Since the unit is so large often it will be on the ground and not hanging vertical. Technically, it’s only water resistant if hanging vertically. Keep out of puddles and use a trash bag in rainy conditions to cover the unit in this situation.

by:

i have not had the chance to use the product yet but etrailer got it to me very quick. 2 days. very easy web site to order from. Great customer service with followup emails letting me know it shipped and follow up for product satisfaction.

I have had no issues with our surge protector. we leave our camper plugged up full time and to my knowledge we have not had any issues with power. we are not in the camper full time but use it on most weekends.

by:

I have had this for about a year now. I RV quite often and this surge protector is awesome. I have a 42' 5th wheel 2019 and as you know loaded with electronics. We have had a few occasions where the protector absolutely saved us. When there is an issue it powers down then reboots slowly to prevent a surge. Highly recommend it.

by:

Did a lot of research on this product. Will work well with my new RV. Solid production and craftmanship. Worth the costs.

Product is trouble free with no issues. It was tested when power went out during a thunder storm. It worked as designed.

by:

So far so good you should always protect your RV from power surges but this takes it a step further so you can monitor your power. We have had power pedistial problems at 2 RV parks in the last year it's good to know before you connect your RV and possibly cause any damage.

by:

This is my 4th or 5th experience with etrailer and they have yet to disappoint. Not much to evaluate on the 50 amp surge protector. I did find there is a delay while it searches for faults. Seemed to be about 2 minutes before the air came on in the motor home but its not even an issue. Works fine though I haven't had a surge so ill assume all is well.

by:

Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector gives me peace of mind when we are traveling the country and etrailer is the BEST online company to do business with.

by:

I’ve been using this product for the past 2 months in various campgrounds and RV parks. I like that it analyzes the incoming current before connecting the RV and I have confidence that my electrical system protected.

by:

After almost burning out the wiring in my new RV at a camp site. I purchased this item and feel very comfortable in the protection it provides me.

by:

The only place I have used this product is at my home. I plugged it into my 50 amp service that I had run to check the circuit as well as to see if it worked. After a few seconds it showed all was good. We are fixing to go on back to back camping trips in a couple of weeks so I will give it a good work out then.

by:

Purchased this after first purchasing a surge protector that only protected against surge not low voltage.
Works well at this time!

by:

I knew I had to have a surge protector. The functions on this covered all my wants. I've only used it at the house so far. Time will tell on the actual quality.
It seems well made.

by:

I have had refrigerator trouble I was told it was voltage surges shutting down my refrigerator. that's why I bought the defender . usually the plugins are not always wired correctly at the parks,

by:

I haven't had a chance to use this yet but it seems to be a well built product. I like the large pull handles to assist in unplugging.

by:

I used this product for 20 weeks last year without any issues - I made connection is some 40 different sites. I feel well protected with this product

Yes - the device is working well - just finished a 4 week trip visiting 4 different campgrounds. The only issue is waiting after you plug it in for it to do its necessary checks before giving the green light. I feel good with the protection

by:

Yes, it took about 140 seconds to provide power to the Motorhome after the diagnostic routine. Great service from Danny T. Thank you,

BJ

  • Joules of Surge Protection for the Camco Voltage Defender
I spoke to my contact at Camco and he informed me that the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Analyzer # CAM55310 that you referenced offers 1,050 joules of surge protection but it's primary function is to determine if a power outlet/pedestal is wired correctly. For more voltage protection you may be more interested in the # CAM55301 that offers 2,450 joules of protection or the part # CAM55306 that provides 3,850 joules of protection. Review videos for all three products are attached.

  • Recommended Surge Protector for 50 Amp 5th Wheel Trailer Connection to Shore Power
For your 50 amp system, you will want the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Monitor - 50 Amp # CAM55306. This voltage monitor disconnects when dangerous voltage levels are detected and then reconnects when it stabilizes. This is much better than the cheap surge protectors that need replacing and are only good for one surge and then leave you disconnected or vulnerable. You won't need a different surge protector for your 50 amp RV wiring. For sites that won't have a 50 amp service, I recommend...

This provides the same circuit analyzer and voltage monitoring functions along with surge suppression but in the 50-amp capacity you need. A similar but better option is their RV Power Defender Voltage Monitor # CAM55306 which provides those functions but adds the ability to automatically disconnect when dangerous incoming voltage levels are detected. Make sure it's facing the correct direction and that all of the install bolts are torqued down to spec. Could you send a picture of the jaws of your hitch and the wedge as well possibly?

Surge protectors are designed to protect the RV's circuits and accessories so even if you were using a 30 amp service your RV would be safe up to 50 amps so you'd want to use a 50 amp surge protector like the # CAM55306 which automatically disconnects when there's a dangerous voltage level and reconnects when voltage stabilizes.

I've attached a video of the Go Power Transfer Switch - Quick Connect - 30 Amp # 342GPTS which shows these connections. If you don't use and in-line circuit breaker like # CAM55306 then there has to be an issue with the wiring or the ground on the transfer switch itself.

  • What is the Difference Between a Power Analyzer and a Surge Protector 50 Amp Adapter
An analyzer such as # CAM55313 has diagnostic lights to indicate faults so that you can avoid damage to your RV. This model also offers surge protection. A model that offers only surge protection would not have any diagnostics. But some have both. There is also the Power Defender # CAM55306 that takes surge protection a step further by having the ability to detect too much AND too little power and disconnect and reconnected as needed.

  • When Going from 30 Amp Power Source to 50 Amp RV What Power Amperage Circuit Protection is Needed
You want circuit protection to protect your RV's wiring which is rated for 50 amp....so you'd want to go with 50 amp circuit protection. For that we have the part # CAM55306 which automatically resets or the part # CAM55313 which is more like a fuse and is internally damaged and needs to be replaced in the event of a surge. To adapt this to a 30 amp power source you'd want the part # A10-3050FHVP and you'd be set.

Most likely you had a pretty big power surge that this was able to protect you from! Definitely keep an eye on it and if you see any changes you'd probably want to have an electrician take a look at your RV's setup to make sure you don't have any wiring issues that need to be cleaned up.

In order to plug a 50 amp camper into a 30 amp hookup at a campsite you will indeed need an adapter, for which the Mighty Cord # A10-3050FHVP will work perfectly. With this particular setup you would still want to use a 50 amp surge protector like # CAM55313 for one time surge protection or # CAM55306 that will automatically reset and can be used again and again. A 50 amp surge protector like Camco RV Analyzer 50 amp # CAM55306 won't do anything unless you exceed the 50 amp rating of the product. If you need surge protection for 30 amp it won't stop a surge relative to a 30 amp setup. It basically would let anything through till it exceeds 50 amps.
