The built-in rain shield surrounds the vent opening so that you can use it in rain or shine. The shield blocks rainwater and other debris from entering through the vent and damaging the interior of your RV or camper. It also eliminates the need to install a separate vent cover.
The fan guard protects your fan from water and debris when mounted on the side of your RV. The guard slides over your vent with the solid end facing up to block rainwater and allow run-off, while the slotted end faces down to allow ventilation. Installing this in the bathroom ceiling of our motorhome was pretty straightforward if cutting a hole in your roof doesn’t faze you. It works great to vent condensation out of our bathroom. It takes a bit of an effort to manually extend it to the open position and it would be impossible for a shorter person to open it. I’m 6’, so it’s not a problem for me.
Ideal for my application, no problems with operation.
I’m using this fan for some supplemental ventilation over my stove in my van — the van also has a 14” square maxxair in the middle like everyone does these days.
Installation was pretty easy- I bought a compass to mark the hole and cut with a jigsaw. The provided trim is fairly forgiving, so the accuracy of your cut isn’t crucial. My roof was a bit over 2.5” thick and after trimming the fan fits pretty comfortably at that depth. I imagine a thicker roof might leave the fan a bit awkwardly recessed, though this might not be an issue.
Operation is easy and pretty much as described. The mechanism that holds the fan open doesn’t feel incredibly sturdy, but also has been ample for the job. It just doesn’t feel super “solid” when it clicks into the open position. I do find myself wishing the fan direction was reversible at times. The fan also doesn’t displace nearly as much air as the 14” square maxxair, though given the difference in area I can’t fault it for this.
All-in-all it’s been good, if not maybe a bit flimsy feeling for the price.
Product is well made of heavy plastics. Easy to install once you get over the fear of cutting into your vehicle. Did not hook up to power yet to see how fan operates. Looks good on roof of vehicle.

I bought two and I installed them in my 2016 Promaster. I generally use one blowing in and one blowing out for circulation. I find t helps keep the condensation down inside the van at night, with myself and two dogs. The low setting is relatively quiet and sufficient at night in the Rocky
Mountains. I did a test midday to see if the van would stay cool. With all windows covered with insulated covers and both fans going it was remarkably cool inside the van after 45 minutes. Sorry no thermometer available..,

I can't say enough about etrailer, my shipment was early, the price was very competitive and the product works great. I would caution anyone installing this fan to also use a DC to DC 12 volt converter to keep the volts to 12 volt and the amps to 5a. If you exceed this my a small amount the circuit board will burn out.....

This vent fan helps a lot with keeping my 7x14 cargo trailer cool. Did a lot of modifications with my trailer especially insulating the ceiling and now with this fan makes it better and cooler. The lid is always open to let the heat out because i have the MaxxAir II cover so rain cant get in. Fan runs better with more or bigger airflow from the side vents when all doors are closed so i added the Redline II popup vent and it works great. Fan does not slow down.
Im glad i got this and will be purchasing again when i get another trailer.

I purchased this maxxfan to replace the roof vent unit that came on our camper. This new vent fan is whisper quiet and best of all it can remain open while its raining. The install was easy and it fit the original hole perfectly. Used the TremPro 644 sealant also sold by etrailer and the install came out perfect. Great fan for the price. I used it to covert an older roof vent with no fan. It came with everything needed to install. I was nervous to cut the trim ring but it was easy and you can not see the edge once installed. I wish I would have gotten the remote since the controls set up high due to my roof design, but still easy to use. Fan is quiet to run which is a bonus.

Nice product, very impressed with it’s design, construction, functions, quality and ease of operations. It looks great on my Transit van. Being it’s a medium height roof I don’t want it to be any higher than it has to be. The low profile is nice. The height of van with Maxxfan open is 9 ft. 4 in. The etrailer installation video on the Transit was very helpful. I made a frame just as described on the video. Using the 2 x 2 ft. piece of 3/4 inch plywood to make the frame is the way to go. It provides the strength I needed due to the weight of my solar panel bracket just 3 inches away. The two screws you see near the edge of the frame is the solar panel bracket. A constructed picture frame style frame would never support the weight. It is a strong solid frame. The roof is solid.

I researched the heck out of roof fans and selected this one. I am building a conversion camper from a cargo trailer. I have 600 hours in it and almost done. Next week is the first trip, electrical is just completed and the fan was just energized. It worked and is quiet. Best I can tell you thus far. Ask me in a yearwht i think.

I love these fans. When I bought a caravan I removed the fantastic fan for one of these because it can be left open when it rains....I rarely ever closed it just so I had airflow in the caravan. Now I have a van, installed it for the same reason. Expensive, but worth it in the long run. I wish they offered a non translucent top model.

This item is an edition in the living area to aid in removing heat and add window circulation. Bathroom already had the same unit and I've used these before with great success.

1 year review- works great. Screen is easy to clean and the unit provides plenty of power. Only issue has been the squeaky fan. It squeaked/chirped from day one at low speed. Annoying but tolerable since I use it at higher speeds. Works great with no leaks during downpours.

This fan is terribly noisy and is too loud to run while sleeping. Occasionally it seems to run smoothly but not before going back to making a racket. Wish it was not so noisy as the install and size are perfect for my setup.
I will be attempting to strip the insides and replace with a Computer fan wired into the switch as I want something quiet for ventilation
