Shane: Hey guys. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to walk you through how to install Ultra-Fab's solar powered plumbing vent. This is what it's going to look like when it's installed. What's nice about this being solar power, we're not going to have to worry about wiring anything up. It's going to have a fan inside.
What the fan is going to do is it's going to pull out any of that smell out of your black water tank and also remove any, or help remove any, moisture that may be maybe escaping into your camper. It's going to be very durable plastic. So we're not going to worry about it breaking apart. We're not going to worry about it rusting or corroding or anything like that. It's going to be white in color so it's really going to match well with all your other roof components. And it's going to be three and three quarter inches tall.
So it's really not going to take up a whole lot of space. It's not going to be really any taller than maybe your gray water tank vent that you may have on there. As far as the installation, it's very simple. It's only going to require a few simple tools. Let's go ahead and walk through the installation now. To start our installation, we need to make sure we're installing this on our black water tank pipe.
With our fan, you see it's not touching the roof. So what we're going to have to do is we're going to have to cut this pipe down enough so it's not touching this fan. It allows this fan to spin freely. I'm just going to use a rotary tool with a plastic cutting blade, and we're going to cut it down as much as we need to. You may or may not need to do this.If you have to cut your pipe, once you get it done, make sure you clean the area.
You're going to need some butyl tape. It's not going to come with your vent, but you can find it here at etrailer.com. Nice thing about it is if you ever have to replace any of your other vents on top of your roof, you're going to be using it. So any extra you have, save it and you can use it later on.What we're going to do is we're going to flip this over like this. We're going to run it right over top where our screws are going to be mounting to our roof. We want to make sure we go all the way around the edge. Now we're simply going to take our vent, set it over the top like this, take our included hardware, a Phillips screwdriver, and sink it down to the roof. What the butyl tape does, is not only seals around the edge, but as you run the screw through it, it's going to grab some of the butyl tape and it's going to run that butyl tape down in that hole to seal the hole. It's going to help keep any water from getting down in there. Now we need to take some Xtreme self-leveling sealant and we're going to run it right along the edge here. This is also not going to come with the vent. I highly recommend it. It works great and it looks really nice once it settles in place. You can find it here at etrailor.com.Once you get your self-leveler on, go back through and just kind of check it, make sure. You want to make sure it's touching the edge here and it's coming all the way over to your roof membrane. Make sure everything's covered, including your screws. Once you get that on, you want to make sure you let it sit for 24 to 48 hours so it dries. Don't just put it on and go take off and travel with it because it will start to come off. Once it cures, you'll be ready to go and you'll be sealed up.You can see this vent here. This one's actually been sitting for about 12 hours, so you can see how it kind of settles and kind of floats out a little bit, gets a little bit wider. So it helps really cover that area really well and seal it up well from any water. That's going to do it for a look at and installation on the Ultra-Fab solar powered plumbing vent.
