What size water heater access door do I need?

If you're replacing an old tank or tankless water heater, you'll want to pick a water heater with a door that will at least be as large as the current access door on your RV. Be sure to search for the water heater that includes the correct size you need.

Fogatti 7 vs. 8 Plus vs. 8 Pro

Fogatti's tankless hot water heaters are popular for being efficient and quality options, but which model would be best for you? Let me give you a quick summary:

Fogatti 7: Lower Btus and lower flow rate compared to the 8s. This can be a good pick, though, because that means you're using less propane to heat water. If you aren't trying to heat very cold water, and you don't expect that anyone else is going to be using hot water while you're in the shower, then this will be a perfectly fine option, especially if you use low-flow fixtures for conserving water. I'd recommend it for solo campers or couples who almost never camp in cold months.

Fogatti 8 Plus: Higher Btus and flow rate while being the same size as the 7. You'll get slightly better performance, and it will be more effective at heating colder water. The extra flow rate won't necessarily allow you to run both a faucet and a shower at the same time without noticing a difference, since both fixtures can use 2.5 gallons per minute. But if you have a higher-flow shower head, this can keep up better. I'd recommend it if you're likely to camp when it gets chilly overnight and want a little extra performance.

Fogatti 8 Pro: This is the same as the 8 Plus, with the addition of a water mixing tank. This tank adds a few more inches to its depth, but that generally won't be much of an issue, especially if you're replacing a water heater with a tank. I'd recommend it if any variance in water temperature is going to really annoy you.

Video Transcript for Feature Review of the Fogatti InstaShower 8 Plus RV 55,000 Btu Tankless Water Heater

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this Fogatti InstaShower 8 Plus RV Tankless Water Heater with this black metal hinge door. Now if you're wondering what the difference is between the InstaShower 7, the 8 Plus as we have here, or the 8 Pro, take a closer look at this product page at the lower half of this page and we have provided really good summaries for each of those water heaters for you that you can kind of read over and proceed to make the decision for the best water heater that's going to just make the best sense for your particular application. But this tankless water heater, this 8 Plus tankless water heater has higher BTUs for more effectively heating cold water. This 55,000 BTU heater is going to heat 2.9 gallons per minute, which is gonna be greater than the average water flow of an RV shower. This larger size black hinge door with this flat lock is going to give you easy access for cleaning or maintenance, and this door is sized for replacing a six gallon tank water heater with a 15 inch tall by 18 inch wide access door.

Now other sizes and colors of doors are available for this water heater. On your screen, I am including a chart showing you the sizes and colors of doors that are available. The bold one that you can see there, the FG26FR, that's for the one that we have here, the 15" by 18" black metal door with this water heater. But if you're looking for the white version or if you're looking for a smaller or a larger size door for this particular 8 Plus water heater, you can see those part numbers there and you can just take the part number for the one that's gonna be closer to what you want, pop it into the search field of our website and that will take you to that kit that you're looking for. But the water heater, the 8 Plus water heater is going to be exactly the same.

Now, the efficient propane burner is going to heat your water only when you use your faucets or shower. The higher BTUs, as I've said, is gonna make this a great choice in cold weather if we're using a lot of hot water at once. The pilot ignition type is automatic and you can see just how easily this is going to be to open and close with that lock. And this also includes this wall controller with a digital display that's going to let you adjust temperature and show diagnostic error codes. The temperature setting is gonna be from 95 degrees to 123 degrees Fahrenheit and the water pressure is gonna be 14.5 to 116 PSI.

The preferred pressure though is gonna be 40 to 45 PSI. The internal safety components are gonna protect you, your family and your RV. For instance, this is gonna automatically cut the gas off if the flame goes out to prevent leaks in your RV. I already gave you the size of our door. Lemme give you the size of the water heater itself.

The overall width from end to end is gonna be about 13" wide. The height, same measurement, 13" tall. The depth of just the water heater itself is gonna be about 13-13/16" deep. And if you add the door, 14-5/16" deep. This is going to be a simple installation with the included hardware. It's gonna use your existing lines and cut out. I do wanna point out that a temperature and pressure relief valve are not included with this, but are required for installation and so you wanna make sure that you can get your hands on those valves and an additional cutout depth are gonna be needed to make connections. Instructions are also included to guide you through the operation and the installation, and I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together has been helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.

  • Option to Replace Atwood G6A-7 Water Heater
To replace your Atwood G6A-7 water heater, the best option, by far, is a tankless heater. Tankless heaters are better than the older, manual pilot heaters like the Atwood models because they are much easier to use with their wall control, they conserve energy so well by only using it once you turn the water on, and - maybe most importantly - give you immediate hot water, which is always a fantastic thing. So I highly recommend a tankless heater from Fogatti, which comes in either white...
