What size water heater access door do I need?

If you're replacing an old tank or tankless water heater, you'll want to pick a water heater with a door that will at least be as large as the current access door on your RV. Be sure to search for the water heater that includes the correct size you need.

Fogatti 7 vs. 8 Plus vs. 8 Pro

Fogatti's tankless hot water heaters are popular for being efficient and quality options, but which model would be best for you? Let me give you a quick summary:

Fogatti 7: Lower Btus and lower flow rate compared to the 8s. This can be a good pick, though, because that means you're using less propane to heat water. If you aren't trying to heat very cold water, and you don't expect that anyone else is going to be using hot water while you're in the shower, then this will be a perfectly fine option, especially if you use low-flow fixtures for conserving water. I'd recommend it for solo campers or couples who almost never camp in cold months.

Fogatti 8 Plus: Higher Btus and flow rate while being the same size as the 7. You'll get slightly better performance, and it will be more effective at heating colder water. The extra flow rate won't necessarily allow you to run both a faucet and a shower at the same time without noticing a difference, since both fixtures can use 2.5 gallons per minute. But if you have a higher-flow shower head, this can keep up better. I'd recommend it if you're likely to camp when it gets chilly overnight and want a little extra performance.

Fogatti 8 Pro: This is the same as the 8 Plus, with the addition of a water mixing tank. This tank adds a few more inches to its depth, but that generally won't be much of an issue, especially if you're replacing a water heater with a tank. I'd recommend it if any variance in water temperature is going to really annoy you.

Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Fogatti 15"x18" InstaShower 7 RV Tankless Water Heater

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Fogatti InstaShower 7 RV Tankless Water Heater with this black metal hinge door. Now, if you're wondering about the difference between the Fogatti InstaShower 7, 8 Plus, and 8 Pro, take a look at this product page, a little bit lower on this product page, and we have a really good summary of each of those water heaters. And you can take a look at those summaries that we provide for you and decide which water heater is going to work best for your particular application. But with this Fogatti InstaShower 7, this tankless water heater is going to work great if you generally don't camp in colder months and don't use a lot of hot water all at once. This 48,000 Btu heater is going to heat 2 1/2 gallons per minute, which as you know is the average water flow of an RV shower.

And this larger size black hinge metal door with this flat lock is going to give you easy access for cleaning or maintenance. And this door is sized for replacing a six gallon tank water heater with a 15 inch tall by 18 inch wide access door. And this door measures right at 15 inches tall and a little over 18 inches wide. And as you can see here, this is going to be very easy to access, you're just going to lift this flat lock lever up, rotate it, and then that's going to allow you easy access to the water heater. Other sizes and colors of these doors are available for this particular model.

We have a smaller size and a larger size, this size is right in the middle. But if you're interested in maybe the white version, we do carry that white door version here at etrailer.com. You can just take that item number, pop it in the search field of our website, and that will take you to the white version. But everything else will be the same, it'll be the same water heater. Now, the efficient propane burner is going to heat water only when you use it and use your faucets or use your shower.

And the lower Btus are going to help conserve gas if you don't need super hot water or you only camp in warm months. The pilot ignition type is automatic. And as you can see, again, this is gonna be very easy to open and close. This also includes this wall controller with digital display that's going to let you adjust the temperature and show diagnostic error codes. The temperature settings are from 95 degrees to 123 degrees Fahrenheit.

The water pressure is going to be 14 1/2 to 116 psi, but the preferred pressure is going to be in between 40 and 45 psi. The internal safety components are gonna protect you, your family, and your RV. For instance, this is going to automatically cut off the gas if the flame goes out to prevent leaks in your RV. So I went ahead and gave you the overall dimensions here of our door earlier. Let me give you some other measurements. Now, with the door mounted to the heater itself, the overall depth is going to be right at about 14 5/16 inches deep. The cutout is going to be a little bit smaller than the door, obviously. So the water heater itself is right at about 13 inches wide, 13 inches tall, and then, without that door, 13 13/16 inches deep. Now, this is going to be a simple installation using the included hardware for the door and the water heater. And then you're going to use your existing lines and cutout. I do wanna point out that a temperature and pressure relief valve is required for installation, and it is not included with this. So that's something that you would have to make sure that you have in addition to this. And additional cutout depth is gonna be needed to make your connections. (lock clanking) Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our brief look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
