After some less than successful attempts at hauling our bikes behind our camping trailer on a traditional bike rack, we ordered and installed a Lippert “Jack It” bike rack on the front tongue of the trailer. It bolts solidly and securely sandwiched between the trailer and the tongue jack. We have been thoroughly pleased with both the high quality of the rack and it’s solid performance!
The bikes hang by the wheels on hooks with locking straps on top, and are further stabilized by anti sway bars also strapped to the bike.
Multiple mounting holes in the “wings” provide ample options suitable for most bikes. The “Jack it” is suitable for both standard and and step through style frames as bikes are suspended by the wheels and not the frame.
Loading the bikes is not difficult (do the rear one first) and rest easy as your bikes are always in sight!
We also ordered a Lippert accessory, the “Bump It,” which allows you to transfer the “wings” section of the “Jack It” to your tow vehicle after your arrival. It’s a great way to expand your biking options at your destination!
Great piece, installation was smooth amd easy. Hoping it holds up as well as it looks and went together. Will update after a couple of trips. Only issue was the cheap hardware, 3 bolts and lock washers are soft, low quality. Luckily for me I went to my bolt bit and grabbed 3 good quality ones. There's alot of stress on those 3 holding the bike rack up and the jack.
As usual, this product from eTrailer.com was exactly as advertised, and works very well. The Jack-It 2 bike rack took only minutes to install onto the front of my travel trailer, and holds two bikes securely and safely. I have yet to drive the trailer with the bikes attached, but with the secure straps that even lock the wheels in place, I foresee no problems with it. It does what it's supposed to do. Some nice features include the ability to quickly and easily remove the two "wings" with the locking pins so that only the supporting frame remains in place when not in use. If you have the correct trailer for its application, there is enough clearance for the propane tank(s) and between the jack and the trailer. The bolts that hold it together are also pinned with cotter pins for extra safety, and can also be used with a customer-supplied 1/4" lock instead for added security from theft. Installation requires removal of the jack and using the three supplied screws and washers in place of the original, but the directions do not mention that you must mount your trailer onto the tow vehicle hitch (or support the tongue some other way) since you will be removing the jack). This seems obvious, but I thought I'd mention it for those in a hurry who may forget that important step or if you've never done this before. It comes with two extra swing stop pegs to optionally lock both wheels in place, and I went ahead and used all of them. For my 2019 R-Pod, the wires that supply power to the electric jack were just long enough to allow removal and re-installation if you slide the bottom wire zip-tie up the jack tube - no need to cut the ties. Install the electric jack through the front of the Jack-It frame, not the back so you can clear the power jack head. Then reinsert through the hole in your tongue. As other reviews mention, adjusting two bikes for proper fit was the biggest challenge.
Installation was fairly easy, haven’t towed with bike installed yet, however the bike is very secure and was easy to put on rack. If you want a secure way to haul bikes this is the product for you. Just be sure and measure the height of your jack(top of trailer tongue to top of jack) so you order the proper one, Jack-it has 18.5” clearance and Jack-it 2 has 22.5” clearance for trailer jack.
Bike rack was easy to install . Directions are straightforward. It took about an hour to complete the assembly and install onto my E-Pro camper. The most time consuming part of the install is that you have to get under your camper to disconnect the power tongue jack wire from the harness so that you have enough slack to slide the power tongue jack up and out to mount the jack -it bike rack on the frame. Then wire it back after installing. Wiring is all zip tied and in a wire bundle. Quality is good and it carries 2 adult bikes fine.
This product does what it proports to do carry bikes. In addition it works as a clothes rack and canopy tie down. It was easily moved from our former unit to the newer one. The construction quality is good . I recommend it.
I have actually only temporarily put the bike rack on my trailer because it is still in winter storage. But from what I can tell and see, it really feels solid and is well made. I hope to set it up with bikes in the next 2 or 3 weeks to make sure it will work, but so far it looks awesome. I will take photos then. I tried putting a rack on the back of the trailer and it was too much weight with the spare tire. So I hope this works better.
Bike rack works great and easy to install. I was missing a part and contacted etrailer and they replaced it right away. Great service!
Installed easily, although you will most likely have to cut the cable to the jack if it is a Lippert jack, because the jack only slides into the jack-it base from the front. In the first trip with bikes, the bike rack worked exactly as advertised although I had to re-torque the three jack bolts when I returned. On my Grand Design Imagine trailer, the height of the rack when installed makes placing a bike on the rear hooks impossible for a short person without a stepladder, so since I have enough height to clear my truck bed, I reversed the direction of the stinger that supports the bikes and pointed it towards the truck rather than the trailer (manufacturer says this is OK to do). Changing the support arm orientation allows me to stand on the tailgate to install and remove both bikes effortlessly.
Ordering and delivery of the bike rack was easy and fast, and a good price. The installation went smoothly taking two seniors about a half hour to position it over our Lippert electric tongue jack. We have not yet tried it towing with bikes attached.
Put bikes on had to make final adjustments, bikes ride well no movement. Only thing that would be nice is to see video of loading bikes, but so far all is good
Very sturdy product. The only thing I would suggest, is that they offered an option for a straight vertical attachment. The only way the original angled installation would have worked on my trailer, would have been to angle it forward, towards the truck. Didn't give me enough clearance to feel comfortable. I've attached a few photos of what I welded together in order for the rack to work with my Rockwood Mini Lite. The extra height added to the installation didn't make it any more difficult to load the bikes. This modification at the factory would make it more user friendly for a wider variety of trailers. Would still highly recommend this rack!
Delivery took a long time but item was finally shipped after I sent an email. The bike rack is great for our bikes on the front of our trailer. The install would have been easy had it not been for the power tongue jack wires that had to be disconnected to get the jack off to put the power tower under it. We were hot and tired after the install so haven't loaded the bikes yet. It looks like there's plenty of space between rack and trailer front though for the bike pedals and such. Hopefully this will be easier than trying to load bikes in short bed truck.
It seems like a pretty good deal. I think it is well-built, was easy to install, shipped quickly, and was a reasonable price.
It can be a little tricky to hang the bike on the rear side by yourself (get a helper), but hanging the front one is pretty easy.
Their website has a lot of good info, especially the videos.
I mounted this rack on my 17’ Casita trailer. I, and my son, have used it to carry our street bikes on short campouts and on a 3 month winter excursion to the Southwest. It is quite sturdy, well engineered, quality parts, easy to assemble, and stoutly secures bikes. Only two caveats for my use: First, I had to replace my power tongue jack because it was an inch too tall to fit the rack over. Jack was due for replacement anyway, but I should have thought that thru before buying the rack. Second, due to my age and weak shoulders, lifting even my light road bike up on rack is awkward and a bit painful. Don't think I could manage a heavier bike. Product is excellent - body needs some work
With a 1966 Aistream, we were limited on our options on how to travel with our bikes. Rear bumper mounts were not an option due to the risk of trailer separation and the airstream rear mount would need to be retrofitted since it was designed for their modern trailers. It was also very $$$.
When I came across this bike carrier that mounts under the jack, it looked promising but I still wasn’t sure I had enough space to clear the peddle and handle bars on the inboard bike. I finally pulled the trigger and figured I could have a fabricator make the necessary adjustments if needed.
It fit perfectly with no modifications necessary and had at least 6” of clearance between the trailer and inboard bike.
What is even more impressive is the team at eTrailer. I originally bought this from a competitor who said they had it in stock but after 13 days of not shipping and a big trip coming up, I canceled my order with them, placed it with eTrailer. I did pay for 2 day shipping but it was worth it because my relic of a trailer uses a different thread pitch for its mount bolts.
No longer packing the bikes in the trailer Is a game changer!!!
This was incredibly easy to install. I do wish it had better pictures in the instructions, but overall they did a good job of explaining what needed to be done.
The rack itself worked great on our first trip! As mentioned in the video, it does move a little bit going down the road, but wasn't anything to worry about. We did only take a child's bike, so not sure about adding a second one on there.
I do recommend following their advice on how hard to pull the straps around the wheels, as it makes the bike feel more secure.
We look forward to continue using it on future trips!
The rack works well with my 16' fiberglass trailer (Scamp). I'm able to fit two bikes along with 2 propane tanks and battery on the trailer tongue. Travel from Michigan to Florida and back with no issues. I would have given the Jack-It 2 5 stars except for the fact that the design makes it tricky to install the back bike (the one closest to the trailer). There is a learning curve. The rack is good for two 30-35# or under bikes. I would not recommend it for heavy bikes, such as e-bikes.
Received the Jack It Bike Rack and installation was a breeze. I love the fact that all that unused space in front of our travel trailer now has a very practical purpose. Loaded up our bikes, ready to get on the road and go camping.
Assembly instructions were awful. Finally figured it out by looking at the pictures. Some of the parts didn’t fit together as well ad expected. Otherwise quality seems to be good. Haven’t had the opportunity to use it yet.
I’ve been looking to carry bikes when towing our ALiner Classic. A car rooftop carrier would work but the Jack-It is not only less expensive it’s easier (lower) to load, keeps the bikes with the trailer, and doesn’t interfere with the trailer setup or use.
Had to replace the top crank trailer jack with a side crank jack ($40). The installation was super simple and I was impressed with the quality of workmanship and overall fit and finish. Nice product!
Fast Delivery. Easy Installation. Product description was spot on. Customer service is always fantastic.
Not too hard to install. The biggest challenge was tweaking the fit to each bike. I would recommend this for trailers that have no other option for bike racks. You can view the bikes out the back window to see how they are traveling.
I really like the rack. Simple to install. To adjust for your bike hang bike from top hooks then adjust bottom supports.
I bought a Jack-It 2 Bike Rack for A-Frame trailers with 22 1/2 “ jack clearance LC429756. I ordered it on 5/29/29 and I receive it 6/10/20. I installed it the next day as we are leaving on a one week camping trip an will give it a good trial.
Packaging was great, instructions were simple, loading it up was easy for me. The proof will be in the trip which I will report on later.
Mounted it on my 2019 Casita TT A-Frame hitch that is stressed for room - no problems noted.
