Will Lippert Pull-Out Steps Work for You?

Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The pull-out steps from Lippert are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

AlumiTread Mounting

The Lippert pull-out steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 28" wide and 12" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 25-1/2" wide to 28" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

RV Steps Outriggers

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

AlumiTread Entry Height

To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays entry height measurements in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 25-3/4" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. The steps for 27-1/2" mounting bracket widths are in the fourth column, and the steps for 28" mounting bracket widths are in the fifth column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

How Do You Install the Steps?

To install the steps:

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Lift the steps into the mounting space and prop into place
  3. If needed, mark the mounting holes on the camper and drill

    -Set aside steps before drilling

  4. If needed, install the outriggers
  5. Align step mounting holes and secure in place with bolts and flange lock nuts

-Make sure the bracket is backed up fully against the I-beam on the chassis

    -Hardware not included

  6. Tighten hardware until snug
  7. Make sure assembly is sitting square and level
  8. Torque the hardware to 20 ft-lbs

Had to replace the original steel (quad) steps on my 16 Cardinal. I don't believe Lippert still makes the Quad steel with rounded edges any longer. Ordered these and they were an exact fit with no modifications or additional hardware necessary. Ordered on a Monday, arrived Wednesday, installation done in less than an hour. Etrailer is awesome!

by:

We love the steps and called you to get the correct measurements, however when they arrived they were over by 5/8”. We managed to get them to fit by using a pry board and Jack but it was hard..took 2 hours to get it banged in there. Once it was aligned it became a 15 minute job. Thankfully we were able to get them to work. These replaced the original steel steps which had fatigue cracks in them. Love the ease of pulling out and lightness of the whole step.

by:

Good quality product. Only issue was width between mounting bolts was 1/4” wider than my bracket on trailer. Little modifications and it went on just fine.

by:

ETrailer was easy to do business with and the steps were delivered sooner than expected exactly as advertised
The steps are exactly what we wanted. The installation was a bit of a job because our cedar creek steps were 27" wide and these are 28" so had to move one of the mounting brackets but I knew this going in. Once I got the bracket moved they went on easy. The reason for replacing the steps were twofold first the original steps treds were 9" apart and only 3 steps. Second they were the slide in type which was hard to operate mdw is a petite lady and she could not operate them she is also vertically challenged so the 9" step was uncomfortable
With the new 4 step steps they are only 8" step and they fold in very easy for storage. mdw is very happy with the new steps.
They also look very nice

We have had these for about a year and We Love them one of the best upgrade we have made to our 5th Wheel mdw loves them she can fold and unfold without any issues at all we would highly recommend these steps

Replaced original heavy steps on our 2015 Cedar Creek Hathaway fifth wheel. The stairs fit perfectly into the existing space and bolt holes. Shipping was quick, item was packed well. The only problem was no hardware included ?? we re-used the old stuff.

These steps do not come with the mounting hardware included. It is available separately as part # LC118155-72.

by:

Needed this quad step after lifting my fifth wheel trailer 6". The shipping box arrived with a few holes in it from the bottom bracket of the step frame rubbing in transit or from loading. I was hoping that none of the parts slipped out as that would have been a bummer. After opening the box, I found that the instructions and any mounting hardware were not in the box, if supplied? I went to the e-trailer web site and found that the instructions for installations were not yet available and Lippert web site did not have any instructions posted. No big deal as the mounting points were that same as my factory step on the trailer. after removing the old steps, I placed the new steps up to the factory mounting bolts and found that the new frame was 1/4" to far apart. I decided to pull the front corners of the frame in to fit the factory mounts, as they were installed in the floor of the trailer and could not be relocated. After pulling the frame in, i was able to bolt the front frame mount to the trailer. I needed to pull the rear of the step frame in as well to use the factory side mounting brackets. Overall, it took my about an hour and a half to install the step because of the fitment issues. The steps are secure, fold in and out with ease and feel very sturdy entering and exiting the trailer. After the fitment issues and pulling the frame in, my only concern was that the center top race was bowed down due to the compression. Other than how the brace looks, it dose not hinder the use of the steps.
Without the instructions, I made it fit.

by:

Excellent Product and well built. Installed on a Fire Truck to provide ready access to a large storage cabinet. (See attached Picture) We tested with one of our relatively beefy fireman in full turnout gear. I bolted the top bracket to bottom of box, added (3) 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" braces from back of frame to truck frame. Super sturdy, folds easily out of way. (see attached Pic)

by:

Really good looking product. Install was easy. Loke the added step and spacing on these steps. Makes entry and exit from RV a lot easier. 2011Bighorn 3185RL

by: 01/23/2023

Installed the engine heater a year ago. The pickup resides in my garage. Have not had to use it. Will be for emergency use while traveling, etc. Easy install.

by:

This my second set of steps from this company. Both arrived in damaged boxes. The product is good, shipping is very slow, communication is very good but packaging and shipping time is poor!

by:

I ordered rv stairs online 2 hrs later, and my order was shipped. WOW definitely will order from this site again. A++

by:

5 stars all day long. We purchased these steps because we didn’t like the Moryde step that fold up into RV doorway that came with RV. That style was just not for us. These new steps are very sturdy and exactly what we wanted. Keeping the steps and dirt outside the RV. And no more adjustment needed when using original drop down steps. The instal was easy. A few measurements and cut out the skirting and the new steps fall into place. Should have done it sooner. Thanks etrailer for having all the information and parts to do any RV job.

by:

The steps arrived on time and it took less than an hour to install them. We replaced a three step version with this four step version and my wife says it makes the entry much easier. Easy to use and look good.

by:

The steps fit perfectly below our door replacing the fixed ladder from the dealer. We needed the folding steps to access our 5th wheel when it is stored in our garage.

by:

These steps work great on my travel trailer, easy to put on and great to use

by:

Great steps, they are a huge improvement over the stock ones that came with our Voltage TH. This is the second set we have installed and installation is fairly easy. They don't rust like the originals, they provide decent traction when wet and our puppy does not get his claws caught on anything like he did on the OEM ones. Additionally, they are lighter and so much easier to operate. The free shipping and price moved this project to the top of our to do list!

Doing well at 1 year. They still move easily and the finish is holding up nicely.

by:

These 4 steps are just what we needed to replace the 3 steps. The 3 steps were too wide apart. We were able to install the new 4 steps fairly easily. They fold up nicely and look great. The fourth (last step down) does not have as much support as the other three steps. Although the fourth step appears to be sturdy enough, we may build a wood platform for the fourth step to rest on to add additional support. Other than that, time will tell if these steps hold up to the traffic of going in and out of our 5th wheel RV.

by:

These steps were what we needed for our Travel Supreme Rally Sport Toy Hauler. The factory steps were a little short and we had to either step high for the first step or use an alternative means of a fourth step.
Had to modify the top mounting holes, and add an l-angle bracket to support the back side of the new steps, but the wife is happy.
May purchase another set for the rear door.

by:

NICE STEPS, RISE IS NOT TO LARGE, ETRAILER IS THE BEST!!!

by:

Campen here from NC and yes it’s pronounced like your going Campen. I needed a new set of steps for our Brookstone camper due to a support breaking on the set that came with the camper in 2013. I went on line to etrailer as well as other sites and found that etrailer had what we needed at a good price that included shipping. The steps were ordered and shipped to our house in three days. The box came in in good condition! Good job for the shipping company. The removal of the old set took a little bit longer that expected “ had to cut a rusted bolt off”. The new set fit very well. They fit tight in the 28 inch space so don’t panic. We are very pleased with the look and how they support the weight. Now back to etrailer, Hayley assisted me with the order and service was great. When I’m in the need for additional camper parts, I will be using etrailer. Thanks Hayley!!!

by:

During the past year it has much easier entering and exiting my rig. No matter the the type of camp site or leveling position of my 5TH wheel. there has been NO need for extra steps. Great purchase and glad I did.

by:

My new rv came with a pull down solid step. Thought I’d really like it but it’s not for me. Replaced it with this awesome aluminum 4 step fold out.

Love it

by:

I had an "accident" with the steps on my fifth wheel. Next time I will remember they need to be in the stowed position before I pull it out of its garage. Nicole at etrailer was able to identify the only replacement that will fit as the original steps were no longer available. I had the new ones in 2 days and they are a perfect match. I like the aluminum tread over the painted steel of the prior steps. They were loosing paint and showing their age. Also, I think with the aluminum they are a bit lighter but are just as sturdy. I would like to say installation was easy but they are still heavy. I was able to do it by myself with the help of a floor jack. Hopefully this is the last time I will need to replace a set of steps. If I do I will call etrailer first.

by:

I ordered from etrailer my first time a quad aluminum folding step for my Cedar Creek 5th wheel. Diana H was awesome to talk to, and she did a great job explaining things and following up. John G provided me with the information that I needed to see if it would work or not. I received it in 3 days or so, and installed it in less than an hour. Real pleased with my overall experience. Would definitely do business with them again. Thanks Guys !!!
