Will Lippert SolidSteps Work for You?
Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and some RVs. The fold-down steps from Lippert lift up to latch into your camper's doorway for storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Lippert SolidSteps install inside your camper's doorframe. Measuring for this may seem tricky, but once you know what to look for, figuring out the right fit for your RV doorway is easy.
Measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - and round up to the nearest even number to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway. You will need a doorway that is at least 24" wide for these steps to work.
If it turns out you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 24" wide to 36" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.
To make sure your doors will close when the steps are installed, measure from the top of the threshold plate to the bottom of the door. You will need a gap of about 1/4" to 3/8" to allow the door to close over the step's mounting plate.
The doorway threshold will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.
The chart below displays doorway width measurements in the first column. If you determined you have an entry height between 22" and 28", the step part numbers that fit that height are in the second column. If you determined your entry height is between 27" and 36", the step part numbers that fit that height are in the third column. If you determined your entry height is between 35" and 44", the step part numbers that fit that height are in the fourth column. Choose the doorway width that is closest to your measurements without going over.
This page's step assembly is in bold text.

Buying the Lippert SolidStep for myself was one of the best purchases I have made! That AND the collapsable DC teapot. No longer is going up and down the steps like a walk through a fun house at the fair. I feel much safer and more secure with the solid steps and the Camco Fold-Away RV Grab Handle.1054094

I thought long and hard about this before I posted it. I really hope this is not etrailer's normal way of doing business. First off this was ordered with expedited shipping paid for and these were in stock. After the time passed that we should have received our steps I called. To be told that these were on the top shelf in the warehouse and you only had one person that could get them down to ship them. After 4 more calls with ship dates passing I was finally able to get them shipped out. Two weeks late. Then they finally arrive last week and low and behold they are missing parts. I have made three calls as of now about this and still do not have a answer on the parts we are missing. These are $600 steps and as of right now they are no use to us because the back plate and all hardware are missing. As of last Saturday I was told I would get a e-mail on the parts shipping to us. As of today still no e-mail and no call back. I have left messages with no call back. At this very minute I am on hold to speak to a manager and have been on hold for over 15 minutes. Still no steps that work and no date on when we might have anything that we can install. This has become a nightmare. And as of right now we are our almost $650 for a set of solid steps we can't use. I have even offered to buy my own hardware if they will just get me the plate. At this point I have no idea what else to do.1159454

Excellent product shipping was slow but expected in the current climate. Super easy to setup and install. Took longer to get the factory steps off than to install this product. Super sturdy and easy to adjust for height. Would recommend Solid Step and Etrailer.com to anyone with an older camper or trailer.803774

Review from a similar SolidStep in RV and Camper Steps
First I didn’t understand why it took 8 days before the “in stock” product was shipped. 13 days after I placed my order I received my steps. I first noticed the top of the stringers were bent on both sides. (Really poor packaging by Lippart) Well I’ll live with that so started to install them. The threshold of the steps was severely warped due to the hinge being welded on. (Poor fabrication practices) I knew I would have to trim my screen door. But I never put the first fastener in (per instructions) BC the warped threshold wouldn’t allow for my main door to close. The warp is more than 3/8 of an inch which is a severe bow imo. Gonna call etrailer now and see what direction to travel now. And freight companies handle freight really rough these days.1307339

Positives: This was a simple installation. The hardest part was removing the old steps-took 2 of us (and a few grunts!). I filed off the inner lip on the threshold and removed the transition strip to make things as level as possible prior to installation. It took about 3/4 hour to finish install after that. Great product, (first in-field use will be Thursday 10/8/20). Negatives: The shipping carton was trashed and loose parts were strewn throughout. I didn't receive the 4" #10 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts, so I used the wood screws but I'm pretty sure I'll need to through bolt the assembly to the trailer in the future. LCI - replacements please? Also, ordered clevis pins with bimini rings for easier support strut length adjustment. Overall: Very Positive Upgrade-Easy & Useful. I would recommend to anyone who wants a better steps than the OEM.897433
One year later and we’re very pleased with our purchase. Absolutely no problems and they provide a sturdier platform to get into our trailer. No complaints. We would purchase again.

Good and solid!! So much better than the stock spring board… but it’s not perfect. With this design you may have clearance issues deploying them and whatever is on the steps (dirt, water) when you put them up it ends up on the floor. Worth it for us.1286650

Watched installation video prior to installing steps & that made the process much easier. I had enough threshold clearance on both the screen & outside doors so steps fit very well on my 2016 Imagine by Grand Design camper.1021529

Best steps ever. Fit my 2017 Imagine by Grand Design camper perfectly without having to modify the screen door. Easy 2 person installation and adjusts easily for uneven ground. Very solid and nice having larger 1st step.

I whish l had bought these steps a year ago. Closing inside trailer is the best way to protect them from the elements. My new steel steps rusted out in less than a year. These steps are well built and very stable when you enter. My wife really likes the extra dept in top step.858090
I whish I had bought these two years earlier. I wasted a lot of money on steel steps and watched them rust away.

Easy installation and a great product. I used the backer plate and thru bolts for mounting instead of screws. The only issue I had was that the locking pins for the leg extensions were not easy to remove. I replaced them a standard pins with retaining clips.962773

No issues with the steps at all. I always check to see if the site allows the steps to lower completely so as to not interfere with the door closing.

Excellent product ! Install was a breeze! Only problem was the screen door clearance, our 5th wheel is a 2010 and just a little trim and all is good!1216115
Review from a similar SolidStep in RV and Camper Steps
Well step showed up with a little damage due to ruff shipping handling. box was tore up, feet hanging out. turned out missing hardware also. I think these should be packaged better! etrailer. was great and gave some credit back for dents and hardware. The The main door closes fine with step out ,but I had trim quite a bit off the bottom of the screen door to get it to work as others have posted. So make bottom of door clearances part of your consideration when buying.
The install of step is easy and very basic other than screen door bottom clearance. The top step is huge and the steps are rock solid.
I am very happy with steps just plan on maybe some door modifications before you order them935206

We're about to begin our second season of camping with these steps and overall, we love them. They are strong, stable, easy to raise and lower and they were super simple to install. There have been a few times where we wished for the old fashioned fold-out steps, and we've decided against putting in a second set in our second doorway. If we had a camper with only one door, I would probably not choose these. Overall, we love them and would buy them again.1276061

Review from a similar SolidStep in RV and Camper Steps
Great steps. We have a 34 foot Montana and got the 3 step model, I think they recommended the 4 step model but these are lighter to lift and shorter in the doorway. The egress and ingress might be a little steeper but we are very happy. Easy to install the screen door had to be adjusted a little bit to shut properly. Very good quality, I would do this again. They came fast and the customer service was not needed so I cant speak to that.946383

The box came beaten up! My husband is installing the stairs on our camper as I write this. It’s obvious these stairs have been mounted, taken off and then returned. There is an adjusting pin missing. The packages came on the date anticapated and in good condition. Although both packages had been opened and poorly retaped shut. The installation instruction were clear and well written. Installation was easy. I did need to make minor alterations to the exiting threshold to make it fit. The steps are solid, work on a variety of grades and makes it much safer to get in and out of our 5th wheel.1120191
Review from a similar SolidStep in RV and Camper Steps
These stairs are a great replacement for the factory installed stairs. We do like having the larger top stair for stability. It’s nice that the camper doesn’t rock when someone is using the stairs since they’re stabilized by the ground. My only complaint is having to clean them well before packing up to leave campsite since they fold into camper. Make sure to install them while camper is on level ground.1272395
When measuring to fit a Lippert SolidStep Manual Fold-Down Step # LC713662 you will measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - and round up to the nearest even number to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway.
