Will Lippert SolidSteps Work for You?
Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and some RVs. The fold-down steps from Lippert lift up to latch into your camper's doorway for storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Lippert SolidSteps install inside your camper's doorframe. Measuring for this may seem tricky, but once you know what to look for, figuring out the right fit for your RV doorway is easy.
Measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway. You will need a doorway that is at least 25" wide to 28-7/8" wide for these steps to work.
If it turns out you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 24" wide to 36" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.
To make sure your doors will close when the steps are installed, measure from the top of the threshold plate to the bottom of the door. You will need a gap of about 1/4" to 3/8" to allow the door to close over the step's mounting plate.
The doorway threshold will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.
Once you know your doorway width and entry heigh measurements, the chart below will tell you which part number you need. This page's step assembly is in bold text.

How Do You Install the Steps?

Aluminum fold-down steps with 13" deep top step attach to the threshold of your RV. Designed to fit 25" to 28-7/8" wide doorways. Industry standard 8" drop/rise between steps. Adjustable legs keep the steps level on uneven ground. If you want a 'solid step', this is a solid buy. 10/10 for sure!
I installed these in my '22 Winnebago 2225RL. The step and installation are super simple. Including taking out my old steps, it took me 30-40 minutes total including adjusting the locking mechanism.
The installation instructions are really easy to follow. I didn't have to remove my old threshold, but that is not true for everyone. So check this first before you go drilling into anything. I attached some pictures to give a before and after view.
The installation went like this for me...Make sure you're rig is level. Make sure the hinge is folded closed before starting. Lay your steps out, center it in the door, and adjust the feet accordingly. Test your door! Test it several times to make sure nothing is going to bind and that you have clearance in all the right places.
You'll see one hole on either side of the Solid Step black threshold that allows you to drill and screw in your first two connections. Once those are complete, fold up your steps and adjust your locking mechanism so that it closes and latches correctly. After you've got everything working the way you want, install the remaining screws or bolts (based on your type of floor) and secure it all down. Enjoy your new steps!
Unfortunately, the steps arrived the sameday my camper went to the shop for repairs. so I will not be installing these until we get the camper back. i normally give etrailer 5 stars but as the pictures show this box arrived with packing tape on the sides of the box , on the corners and accross the top where the box was damaged. I open the box to inspect and not sure what was included. With the stairs was a bag of screws. no instructions. I would suggest that the packaging needs to be improved. I hope once i start the install that the step are in working condition.
Hi all,
It’s been a year since we purchased our steps. I had slid down our old steps on a rainy morning so I came home and immediately ordered from etrailer (our go to source). I wanted a wide first landing step and this is perfect . It is adjustable to our various ground levels so that is a plus. . This is a very stable step. I would recommend it!
The solid step is a great upgrade for our 2018 hybrid shamrock 233s. It eliminated the side roll when kids jump on the factory underside mounted steps. I would highly recommend adding this to your camper.
Excellent product replacing original steps on 2013 Forest River Surveyor. Only fitment issue per Lippert instructions placed hinge plate too high and door would not close. Easy fix, cut threshold section out to allow hinge plate sit flush on floor. Fits great, looks great, high quality product.
I bought these steps as a gift for my son, on his trailer, replacing the original fold-away style. He tells me the difference is between night and day for how much better these new steps are. They feel so much more stable to go up and down on and stepping out of the trailer onto the larger platform of the top step is an additional bonus for security.
The only issue with these steps is how they have to hinge over the door sill. Depending on the style of your sill, you may need to make a modification to the sill plate in order to allow the step hinge to swing all the way into place. We had to make this mod. on his trailer or the hinge plate would not be low enough to clear the bottom of the main door or the screen door. This was not the easiest mod. to do, but once completed, everything fits and he couldn't be happier!
I have the same steps on my trailer and they fit without any modifications required. I also think they are the best option out there!
Once installed, it is definitely solid! Installed it in 20 minutes which included removing the 10 screws, moving the steps tighter to the outside threshold. (Instructions aren’t real clear as to which flange is supposed to be tight to the threshold, outside or inside). I pre-positioned the latches to “close” to what would be the installed position as I was doing this by myself so that after installing the first two screws, I could put the steps into the closed position and have it latch while I installed the remaining 8 screws. I then tweaked the latches to their final position and tightened the bolts.
Installed on Grand Design Imagine 2670MK
The removal of the old steps was fairly easy and the installation of our new 3 step SolidStep was very simple. What a difference! Our aging lab is able to use these steps much easier to get in and out of our 5th wheel. I can tell from just 4 or 5 trips in and out that I will love them also. No more bouncy, steep steps! The large platform top step is so nice.
We're about to begin our second season of camping with these steps and overall, we love them. They are strong, stable, easy to raise and lower and they were super simple to install. There have been a few times where we wished for the old fashioned fold-out steps, and we've decided against putting in a second set in our second doorway. If we had a camper with only one door, I would probably not choose these. Overall, we love them and would buy them again.
Cannot rate the steps at this time as the shipping box was damaged and the hardware needed to install the steps are missing.

That is not good! Lets get you over to our customer service department for them to get you your missing hardware.
Sturdy. Easy to install and use. Would have given 5 stars except one of the door frame storage brackets needed a fair amount of bending to make it the correct 90 deg.
Very comfortable, no wabble on the trailer, well built, love that wide top step and easy to install.

Fantastic, everyone loves them
Surprisingly easy to install. Hardest part was removing the old fold-out steps. Solid footing to get in and out of the RV. Only con is needing room to swing the steps out in tight spaces (storage). Wish this was installed from the factory!
This is fantastic. Fast shipping easy to install. Makes it so much easier to carry in those weekend groceries. My husband also has hip issues and he loves this. No more worrying about making those huge steps down anymore. Thank you!
Having trouble with right side laying flat against threshold, also steps are angle down, if try to level makes it worst and screen door will not close, tried different adjustments any ideas, this is why giving a average rating for now, everything else went ok

Well that does not sound good at all. Let me get you over to our customer service department to further assist you.
Everything worked just as expected, installation instructions were good. Thank you.
Positives: This was a simple installation. The hardest part was removing the old steps-took 2 of us (and a few grunts!). I filed off the inner lip on the threshold and removed the transition strip to make things as level as possible prior to installation. It took about 3/4 hour to finish install after that. Great product, (first in-field use will be Thursday 10/8/20).
Negatives: The shipping carton was trashed and loose parts were strewn throughout. I didn't receive the 4" #10 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts, so I used the wood screws but I'm pretty sure I'll need to through bolt the assembly to the trailer in the future. LCI - replacements please? Also, ordered clevis pins with bimini rings for easier support strut length adjustment.
Overall: Very Positive Upgrade-Easy & Useful. I would recommend to anyone who wants a better steps than the OEM.

One year later and we’re very pleased with our purchase. Absolutely no problems and they provide a sturdier platform to get into our trailer. No complaints. We would purchase again.
Your video is very informative. Was easy to install and a perfect fit on a 2001 5th. wheel.
Very easy to install nice top step
Feel more comfortable coming down the steps.
Sipes AMA then delivered quickly. The solid steps are an awesome addition to my camper
Easy installation. No more boucey steps. The steps are much safer & steadier than the original steps. The wide step at the top is a real plus. As always E-trailer was a pleasure to work with. Finding what we needed on your website was very easy. And shipping was so fast & we were updated every step of the way.
Great service, unit installation was simple and easy approx 30 min to complete
We love the steps, we did have to do some adjustments to 2000 fifth wheel threshold and storm door, but it works great. Very secure

Love the steps, very durable
Damaged part replaced quick and it is on the SolidStep.
Works great! With the old steps we had to haul a wooden platform in case the bottom step was too high for my wife to step up comfortably. We no longer have to haul it because these steps adjust to the varying ground level.

Its been another year, and really, I feel the same way now as I did when I wrote the review last time. We love the stairs, there are a few occasional times where the fold downstairs might be more convenient. But overall we love these
