Will Flexco Pull-Out Steps Work for You?
Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The Flexco pull-out steps from Stromberg Carlson are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Lippert pull-out steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 26" wide and 12" deep.
If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 21-1/16" wide to 28-1/4" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.
Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.
Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 3" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom steps to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.
The chart below displays mounting bracket width measurements in the first column and entry height measurements in the second column. The third column shows the corresponding part numbers. Use the mounting bracket width and entry height measurements you took to determine which part number will fit your RV. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.
This page's step assembly is in bold text.
Mounting Bracket Width | Entry Height | Part Number |
---|---|---|
21-1/16" | 14-1/2" - 17-1/2" | SMFP-1120 |
23-5/8" | 19" - 22" | SMFP-2120 |
24-1/4" | 10-1/2" - 13-1/2" | SMFP-1220 |
25" | 14-1/2" - 17-1/2" | SMFP-1100 |
26" | 19" - 22" | SMFP-2100 |
27-1/8" | 30" - 33" | SMFP-3200L |
28-1/8" | 26" - 29" | SMFP-3100 |

Once that was done, the step makes it much easier to enter and exit the trailer.
This is the 2nd one of these steps I have purchased and they work great. I have a bandwagon I use for playing in Mardi Gras parades and have one of these mounted on the front and back of the bandwagon. They are durable and have no problem supporting the weight of the musicians getting on and off the bandwagon.
Just what we needed. Fit original location perfectly. We raised our RV 4 in. So this was perfect adjustment for getting in and out camper. I like it a lot better than the one step we had.
Received steps right on schedule and the fit with just minor adjustments, such as elongating two mounting holes. We believe they’ll work great as the single step was physically hard for my wife to get in and out of trailer. Only one problem is they didn’t retract easily at first until I readjusted the step arms. We’re pleased as these steps saved us money, time, and inconvience of having an RV shop order them and install that is always pricey!
Bought these steps to replace single step on my Rpod 177. We have the lift kit on the axle, so the single step was difficult to get up and down on. This unit slid between the welded bracket with some persuasion. I had to enlarge the rear bolt holes on the bracket. Very pleased with the layout of the steps now!
Got the step in just a few days. Took about fifteen minuets to put on. Had just single step but it 12 inches from the door. This double step is 9 inches. Might not seem like much but when you have bad knees the inches may as well be feet. Can still go up about two more inches but have to modify the bracket that is welded to the camper frame. But we love the double step. Trying it out this weekend. Thank you for having a web sight. Sure makes my life better. I know where to go for thing like this double step. I highly recommend etrailor. Great company.
It installed easily with two people and clamps. It was what I wanted to get into food truck easier.
My camper came with one step. We tried several step stools and after falling several times I found this item and the price was low. I had to do a little cutting of corners to mount, but it worked like a champ. It only took me about 2 hours and it took the place of the single step. We love it. It looks like it was factory installed.
The steps were to arrive by 8 pm on Monday, were surprised when UPS delivered them on Saturday afternoon!
The installation wasn't as easy as we hoped, had to notch the back and drill out the back hole on both sides. No install instructions, but we got it installed. I think the double step will make our knees happy. Service was great.

I recommend this 2-step, with its higher weight limit, it handles weight very good. Its great for our old knees. Our R-POD has the lift kit, and was a bit of a struggle to get up and down the steps with arms full. Now its a breeze. As someone mentioned, it sticks occasionally, but Ive found if I reach above the steps and pull from behind, it comes out with ease.
These steps are great. Very solid and spaced just right. A vast improvement over the OEM single step. Highly recommend. This is my third order from etrailer and I couldn't be more satisfied with the quality of their offered products, their rapid response and shipment, and their customer followup and service. When the need arises, I will buy from them again.

The steps are great. Work perfect
I ordered 2 products from etrailer. The Flexco double step and the Brophy stabilizer clamp. Shipping was fast and the products are just as advertised.
Our camp trailer came with a single step and it was just too high to be comfortable entering and exiting the trailer. Some friends told us about etrailer so I decided to give the website a look. I found exactly what I was looking for and the price was the lowest I found anywhere. I installed the step today and it really made a difference.
The brophy stabilizer clamp did just what I needed it to do. I did have to mount it in the opposite direction because of the way my hitch is attached but the included instructions covered this as being a possibility.
Great prices, fast shipping and products as advertised. It doesn't get any better than that! I will order from etrailer again!
Great. Perfect for my trailer
REALLY need some suggested mounting methods suited to particular trailers. How would you like to buy a couple of airplane wings with no suggestion as to what they would fit and how to mount them?

This particular step has a 27-5/8 inch wide mounting bracket. The best way to determine the correct steps for your application is to measure the width of the mounting bracket of your existing steps, and compare that dimension to the available steps.
My wife especially likes the two-step approach to the trailer door, much better than the original that could be kinda high off the ground. (We're way past seventy, so...) Trailers are not built to a universal standard so I had to do a bit of drilling to get it mounted, but I am handy with tools.
I like the hefty design. I'm a mechanical design engineer and I am impressed. (Just keep in mind as you travel that it unavoidably rides a little closer to the road. There's no way to design that away.)
It's a fine piece of work.
Love these steps. Replaced the original heavy duty ones that came with trailer. The originals were always in the way and needed leveling. These steps are extremely sturdy. And etrailer.com is a great company to support.
I replaced the OEM single step on my Forest River Evo trailer with this double step. The OEM step was mounted by the sides, to plates that stick down about 8" from the bottom of the trailer, and are welded to the frame of the trailer. This double step has sliding pins that stick out of the sides about 1" and prevent the step from fitting between the trailers mounting plates. I had to cut away a 3" by 10" piece from the bottom of each of the plates to allow the step to be mounted. It looks and works great once mounted, but you should not purchase this step to mount to side mounting plates unless you have the capability to modify the plates.
Easy to install and a well built replacement for an unbeatable price.
They don't hinge the same way as my old ones, but look so much better!
Notice in the pictures that the hinge bar extends past the step frame on both sides.
On my trailer, these fit within the existing plate mounts. I was not able to use the old bolts from the steps I removed, instead I installed slightly longer ones to complete the installation. Very happy with how these turned out on my trailer.
Installation was simple: clamped in place, drilled holes and bolted to frame. Steps dragged in the channels making them hard to deploy. It took some serious filing to get the clearance necessary for smooth operation. Very safe and sturdy.
Steps arrived on time and undamaged. Box in perfect condition. Installed on a 2017 (Green edition) Rpod that had risers installed. Was a tight fit, required some slight tapping to move into position but the tension actually held the steps in place so I could install the bolts. Front bolts perfect but rear holes had to be drilled out so bolts would fit. I knew this going in from other buyers so was not a surprise or a deal breaker. They are heavy duty and fold away in basically the same space as the original steps. Non-skid material is a nice touch. Would have been a "5" if holes lined up perfectly. But then not much in life is perfect.
Easy install! Looks great! Sturdy!
Picture looks like stairs are lopsided. It's the picture taker.
With a little retrofitting, this worked perfectly. My wife can now get in and out of our camper with ease. Thanks so much for all your help on choosing the best product for our needs.

It was perfect for what we needed. A little modification on the hook up to the camper itself but I knew that going in. Makes getting in and out so much simpler with that extra step. I thank you and my wife said to tell you it was a knee saver.
We purchased the double step, our camper only had the one step and at time it was a HUGE step to get up into our camper. The stairs are awesome. The only problem (which really wasn't a problem for my husband) was the holes did not line up. We ended re-drilling the back holes and had to buy new plow bolts.
Be sure and measure the opening width for your steps because they are not all the same. These steps are somewhat limited in how they mount because of the rod sticking out the side of the top step. I could not use my top mounting holes because the moving step rod protruding out the sides hits the mounting plate. I had to drop the steps down to the lower mounting holes which dropped the steps down 2". This is fine while parked but I hope it doesn't create a clearance problem while going in and out of driveways, etc..
Very quick delivery, well made product, exactly as described on the website.
However, they will not work on my camping trailer due to the brackets on the trailer.
That is no fault of the product. More than happy with etrailer.com's service and product. I will be returning them for a refund or credit towards another purchase.

The steps are still working great. I am sure they will hold up for the life of the camper.
