Video Transcript for Test Fitting the Inno Gear Case Rooftop Cargo Box on a Frontrunner Slimsport Rack - 2021 Toyota RAV4

Hey, everyone, it's Evangeline right here at etrailer. Today, we are taking a look at the INNO Gear Case Cargo Box mounted to the Front Runner Slimsport Rack on our 2021 Toyota RAV4. The Front Runner rack is sold and installed separately onto this vehicle. First off, the INNO Gear Case 720 is a different type of roof-mounted box. It's more of a cargo case than anything. I personally like the design because it's more of a square, easy to carry around, very portable case, but you are gonna lose out on some features.

For example, if you have taller duffle bags or larger suitcases, the height of this case might not be enough for you. But for most of your road trip items, your smaller things that you need to pack into a case, this will provide both the space, (cargo box clicks) but also the security that will work out great for that. But a quick summary is that this box is made of ABS and AES plastic, which offers good weather ability and UV protection. This is something that you'll see on a lot of automotive parts, just like on your RAV4.

Very strong, very sturdy. Secures very well to our roof rack. So instead of having to purchase a separate, similar-looking box and drill holes, though, this is gonna add a lot more protection of your cargo from the elements. You also have two latches on this box. Both can be locked, and that way it's simply a press of a button, lift of a latch, and then you can get access into your cargo on the inside.

So everything works well to protect your cargo, (cargo box clicks) but also look really good on top of your vehicle. Now, here on our Front Runner Slimsport Rack, which is custom fit for the RAV4, it does take up a good amount of space. So the box, 34 1/4 inches wide. The remaining space on our rack is about 16 to 15 inches of clearance. That is a little different because the lid takes up more space when it's in the open position.

So you might be able to fit things like a fuel can carrier, a bike rack, whatever other accessory you wanna carry on the Front Runner in this remaining space. But the very first thing I noticed is how well this fits into the grooves of our rack. This sits 72 inches and 7/8 of an inch long, but it fits perfectly within the front and the back of our Slimsport Rack. Even the bottom of the box fits well within the slats, making for a very sleek look. Now, the box does sit a little bit over the rear of the rack, but the good news is we are still able to completely open up our hatch door and still have about two inches of clearance between the back of the box and the top of the hatch. So you have full access into your cargo area in the back of your vehicle while adding cargo capacity (hatch thuds) on top of the RAV4. The clamps are gonna be the INNO Memory Mount Clamps. So, this is not a new design. You see them on their other products, they work really good, which is why you don't really need to change them. And all you need to do is lift up the lever and then you're able to detach that clamp. We're gonna take this outside so you can see how it works better. The first thing I wanted to know was if the clamps would clear the roof. Now, if it was on the box, we'd still have a little bit of extra height, but even out of it, we still have clearance with the clamp. The next thing is that when you adjust a tension, make sure that it can still fit around the bar. So, with that set the first time, you can then just forget about it, and it's simply a matter of tightening down that lever or loosening the clamp, so all this works very well together. And that's gonna be the overall look of this box with this rack with this car. At this point of the video, I would usually recommend other solutions for maybe the gear case isn't big enough for you, maybe you have larger suitcases, or maybe you want something that's more portable. But in this scenario, that doesn't really make as much sense because this is a very unique interaction of multiple things. I would just say that if you're looking for a really good fit of both increased cargo capacity, but also being able to use your Front Runner roof rack or roof platform with a bunch of other accessories, this is a really good way of going about it. There's also the point here that the INNO Gear Case is very easy to take off and store inside your garage and in your shed. So if you have other Front Runner-mounted accessories, maybe you wanna carry around the kayak, you can still do that without being it such a hassle to do so.
