Sturdy, Passenger-Side-Opening Lid
This cargo box opens from the passenger side, so you'll want to install it closer to the passenger side of your vehicle for easy access to your cargo. The extra-stiff lid helps reduce road noise and vibration, and it guards against dents and scratches.
Built-In Lock
The box includes a built-in lock on the passenger side to secure your gear. This lock also deters theft of the box itself because it denies access to the mounting hardware. The key can only be removed once it is in the locked position, ensuring the box is securely locked and safe for transportation. 2 locking points on the sides keep the lid secure when locked.
Universal Clamp-On Mounting Hardware
The Cargo12 installs with inward-facing quick-attach mounting clamps. These clamps fit most crossbar styles, and they are inserted in one of the holes along the floor of the box to accommodate different crossbar spreads. To adjust a clamp, loosen the knobs and move the clamp to the desired location. Then tighten the knobs down to close the clamp around your crossbar. Be sure to insert the provided hole plugs into all unused track holes once attached to crossbars.

Before I purchased the product I watched over and over the video on the site to see if the dimensions and looks of the product would fit my vehicle. After receiving it today I mounted it on my cross bars that I had and it fits like a glove. I noticed that the straps on the video are red and a bit larger but I received skinny black stripes not sure why the change. I like the color and it is spacious enough to accommodate what I will use it for. Good built and it sits well on the bars, it wasn't difficult to set it up, I like the way the brackets tighten up to the cross bars. My conclusion is: it is a well constructed cargo box and it is very big for the size to fit many vehicles. The price is also very competitive than many other brands.
I was going to wait until after I could use it and then write a review, well I received an e-mail to help testify to it and for now this is what I have to write about it. I will further write more after a few months of use it will make more sense.
I purchased the Malone Cargo12 roof box for a 6 week trip to Arizona with our two dogs. I chose this carrier because it was large enough to hold all our clothes and items for our extended trip - and it would look nice on my white Forester. It was just what we needed and it worked out great! Looking forward to using it again.

Our Malone Cargo 12 roof box has made three trips out west. Everything is still working and holding up like new. Great purchase!
The Malone Cargo12 roof box met all my expectations. For one it is very light (24 lbs), which was important to me since i) I had to lift it on top of my Honda Element by myself (female, 5'6"), and ii) my OEM roof racks only support a total of 75 lbs. The light weight of the material has a minor drawback as it scratches easily. However, this is only cosmetic. Installation was really easy although I had to make a minor change as in having the rear attachment brackets in the same orientation as the one in the front to make it fit. On our recent camping trip we drove through pounding rain for 5 hours and the box held up nicely. I did not notice any significant drop in fuel consumption nor an increase in road noise. Last but not least, I would like to acknowledge the excellent customer service I received from etrailer in particular Paula S. who went out of her way to locate our "misplaced" box in the warehouse and made sure it was shipped to us in time for our trip.
After a wrong item was delivered, etrailer sent the correct item. Thankfully it arrived a few days before I needed it instead of a week before I needed it. Sturdy Shipping box, no broken or missing items in the cargo box itself. INstallation on a 2014 Jetta Sportwagon took a little bit. Insert all the anchors before putting the box up otherwise you won't be able to install the ones opposite the opening. Fill all the mounting holes you are not using with the plastic plugs--including the ones under the inside mounting braces. I attached it to the rear bar while the mounting brackets were loose. I then loosened the front bar, slid it back and then forward to catch on the front mounts. Made sure the measurements were even and tightened everything down. The mounting is solid, running empty around town I don't hear any extra noise though on highway Im sure there will be some. No load yet so can't comment on the performance. There are few stores you can go to for a box these days so hopefully this one works out.
Easy install, looks great. Haven’t tested on the highway yet. Shipping took longer than expected because of weather. 2023 Honda Ridgeline BE.

This roof cargo carrier was completely satisfactory for my 3 week camping trip. Why pay for the fancy name of those other two? I think etrailer meets my “Standards of Excellence” for an online retailer.
Travelled wonderfully. Did make a bit of noise at higher speeds, but I don't know if there is anyway of getting around it. The installation is easy and the capacity was plenty.
This was the size I wanted but the hinge was broken on delivery. Malone was vary responsive to take care of the problem. It is made of a abs plastic therefore light weight. I am not sure how strong or impact resistant it will be.
This is our first roof box purchase. Recently used this roof box for our Tahoe trip. It kept our camping stuff secure and no noise as we traveled even at 75mph. We were able to fit our inflatable paddle board and inflatable kayak giving us a lot of interior space.
The item came quickly (even though the tracking wasn't as accurate as it indicated online). Item was appropriately wrapped to protect it during shipping, and all pieces were present. Shipping carton was also sturdy enough to not compromise the item. Excellent purchasing experience.

Took a trip from Buffalo to Myrtle Beach and back with this carrier. It didn’t move an inch and stayed completely water tight even through some pretty serious rain storms. Can’t really ask for very much more than that! Highly recommend.

The Malone cargo box is very sturdy, with thoughtful design. The mounting instructions are very straight forward and installation went smoothly. This is a good looking cargo box that has solved the luggage space issue for our upcoming family of 5 vacation!

As great as the products are, the service was even better. Melissa, the customer service representative, confirmed the cargo box, the crossbars and my vehicle were all compatible and processed my order very quickly. I placed the order about 8 pm on a Monday night and received the order by late morning on Wednesday! WOW!
We have a small car and needed extra cargo space for road trips to see family and visit state parks. This cargo box worked perfectly! It's a great size for a few suitcases plus a couple of odds and ends. It's fully waterproof and works as easily in the hot summer as it does in the cool autumn and spring. Installation is simple and straightforward. Plus, it easily fits in a closet when it needs to be stored.
We use the carrier to carry additional clothes and bags. It is secure when attached and I didn't worry about it coming loose at highway speeds. It did not leak when travelling through heavy rains. The key must be removed after locking it and there is no chance of carrier coming open when driving.
So far it looks good. Although all the pieces (brackets, clip washers) were not in the bags, rather they were all loose in the interior of the carrier. We seem to have them all. We sized it again to the auto roof, just to make sure and it is correct. But we won't be attaching it right away as it wouldn't fit through the garage doors. Regarding customer service: they were excellent keeping us apprised as to expected ship dates etc.
Showed up faster than expected. I love etrailer. Product is just as described.
I have not mounted it on the SUV yet but am impressed with the workmanship and quality of this product. It arrived well packed in a solid box. The bag of parts inside was open but nothing was missing. I am anxious to get it on our SUV (Toyota Highlander with stock cross bars) but that will be later this month.
Box looks great and appears sturdy. Not a flimsy piece of plastic. Etrailer shipped it very quickly and was packed well. No damage at all from shipping. Great product and value for the money.Can fit 2 golf bags plus a few more things. Fits on top of Mercedes E350 perfectly. Haven't used it in a trip yet but I'm sure this will fit the bill. Very pleased.
Exactly what I was looking for my 2019 Jeep Trailhawk. It fits perfect and leaves enough room up front for my Sunroof to open. Nice Sleek look and not overpowering . 12 cubic feet is a plus. Super easy to install. Love it !

The cargo box for now is in the garage. I was planning to take a trip and I had to cancel it. When I am going to a trip hopefully this year I will use it and know more how it handles the wind, cargo and much more. For now this is all I have.
