Sturdy, Dual-Side-Opening Lid
The Profile18B lid opens from both sides for easy access to your cargo. This means your gear is always close at hand whether you mount the box closer to the driver or passenger side. Built-In Lock
The box includes a built-in lock on both sides to secure your gear. The locks also deter theft of the box itself because it denies access to the mounting hardware. The key can only be removed once it is in the locked position, ensuring the box is securely locked and safe for transportation. 3 locking points on both sides keep the lid secure when locked.
Universal Clamp-On Mounting Hardware
The Profile18B installs with inward-facing quick-attach mounting clamps. These clamps fit most crossbar styles, and they are inserted into the slots along the floor of the box to accommodate different crossbar spreads. To adjust a clamp, loosen the knobs and move the clamp to the desired location. Then tighten the knobs down to close the clamp around your crossbar.

The gloss paint looks great, I even polished it with the same sealant as the car. Easy to operate, lightweight and wind noise at speed is minimal. Very pleased.
I’m ultra-pleased with my Malone Profile18b cargo box! I scoured the internet researching these things. I think I looked at every large capacity model around 18 cu ft for my Nissan Armada. There’s lots of good ones out there to choose from. I almost bought a Thule Motion XT, but I decided to go with this Malone cargo box because it had the specs I was looking for at a much better price (18 cu ft for under $xx.xx!). After examining it closely, it seems to be fantastic quality, fit and finish it great, and functions perfectly. It opens and locks from both sides—and new for this year, it has an awesome new 1-click dial attach system that installs and removes easily and holds strong.
Also, It’s one of the BEST LOOKING rooftop cargo boxes out there. The Italian shape and glossy black finish looks very high-end.
For the money, you can’t beat this box. If you’re considering a rooftop cargo box, don’t hesitate on getting this Malone.
Reviewing this after 18 months or so because in that time I have NEVER seen another one of these on the road, despite living in the roof box capital of the world (Denver) and I think it looks better than the majority of boxes I see, save the newer Thules. The price has gone up since I purchased, but I still think it's good value.
Great roof box option at a fraction of the price of Thule/Yakima, plus it looks sleek and the shiny finish looks great.
I frequently use this for cargo storage / skis and snowboards across 3 different vehicles and bars (Jeep Renegade on Yakima Aerobars, VW Golf on OEM square bars, Subaru Forester on OEM bars) and it's great. Easy to take on and off and always feels secure.
I've fit ski's up to 190cm in it carefully at an angle - my buddy's 196cm skis wouldn't fit without bending.
I will say that, as with probably any other roof box, you need to be careful of the locks fully engaging and not being blocked. I've had issues getting the box re-opened once locked if something inside is pushed up against one of the 3 lock points.
This would have been a nice cargo box however, the box of clamp hardware that was ziptied to one of the prop-up hinges broke the hinge during shipping. The hinge was still ziptied to the cardboard hardware box but had broken loose from the mounting point and now has a broken peg. This makes the hinge no longer stay in place when opening and closing the cargo box. I will attempt to fix it myself as I don't have time for the return process.

Overall I'm fairly happy with the cargo box. It's big enough for us and it mounted to our cross bars without issue.
The reason I'm giving four stars is because the quality doesn't feel like it's worth $600.The plastic is super thin and I feel like dropping something on it will cause it to crack. It will make storage of the unit very tedious. Also rocks could easily crack it. For the price I expected better quality.
Easy to mount, easy to use. Have taken it into the winter snow in the Colorado mountains, rains storms, and strong wind, with no leaks, no problems. Very happy with this purchase versus more expensive options.
I did manage to break one of the locking arms on the inside while loading it one time (completely my own fault) and it was extremely easy to speak with a manufacturer customer service rep who had a repair part out to me within days.
I originally ordered the gray version of this model, but it was going to take too long to ship out from the manufacturer. I was immediately notified by the team at etrailer about the issue and they made suggestions to fix the issue or wait for the delivery a bit longer. I’m glad I was given options and very glad I went with the black version of this model. The item arrived quickly on freight. The box was delivered to my doorstep. It was busted open a bit on the top, but the driver said he had just pulled it off the pallet. The item looked scratched up at first, but I noticed the entire top of the cargo box was sealed tight with a protective peel-away plastic layer keeping it safe and looking brand new. I have yet to get it on my vehicle, but am very excited with the quality, double locking mechanisms, and size (6’ 3” long / 18 cubic ft of storage!!!) Can’t beat the price. I will shop with etrailer again if I have a need for their products.
It arrived broken and needed it for Labor Day Weekend.

This is the first Malone product I have owned and I am extremely impressed by the sturdiness and quality of this carrier! The installation is easy, and removing it is just as simple. The mounting system is different, but it is rock solid on my Subaru Outback. There is no wind noise and it looks pretty good, also. I give this both thumbs up because it is every bit as good as the other super expensive carriers out there, but several HUNDRED dollars cheaper.
When I took this out of the box there were so many scratches under the bubble wrap it appeared that someone returned it and etrailer tried to pawn it of on me. This is going back to etrailer and I am so disgusted with you folks right now. This was part of my moving solution and you just messed that up without a care in the world. I can't recommend etrailer for your cargo top needs.

It is sad to hear that this item has arrived with damage. We do not send out used product. I see our customer service department is currently working on getting the return set up for you.
Nice looking unit. Really like how it attaches to the bars. Well packaged by you and the manufacturer. Will head out next week for and extended trip and this will make it easier to take golf clubs, beach chairs,etc.

The package was very well secured-it came on end on it's own pallet. After unwrapping it, it looked like scuff marks on the outside, but there was a tight fitting plastic I hadn't removed yet, so all looked great. Very aerodynamic shape and opens on both passenger and driver sides which is great.
The item is large but light. I was (at 5'8") able to heave this on top of my 2009 Honda Pilot. The Pilot has relatively short rails that sit back too far to use all the rail to place my Malone roof rack. Had to go with a rather tight configuration with the racks only 25" apart.
The Malone Cargo Box has adjustable slots both front and back to accommodate variable distances between your roof rack, but the box itself is designed in such a way that you can't tighten it down within all of that range. When I went to tighten down the knobs, I ran into the problem that the knobs won't fit nicely between "wrinkles" in the design of the box. Therefore you lose that flexibility. See pictures where one doesn't fit over the hump in the bottom of the box and after adjusting the placement, it does. Still works, but I had to adjust my roof racks again to make it work. If they allowed just another 1/4 inch of space the knob tighten at any setting. So why not do it? Also, the etrailer videos show a box tightened down with the front hook, facing the rear and the rear hook, facing front for the most secure setup. I would have had to put my racks a mere 23" apart in order to do that. For the length of this box, I didn't feel that was a safe configuration.
Once tightened down they do look and feel mighty secure and don't have to worry at all about my load.
Word to the wise: When purchasing one of these cargo boxes, make 100% sure of your purchase. It would cost a mint to return on of these puppies. The shipping wt. was 110 lbs. (Even though it was free shipping). Not to mention few people would have the means to repack it properly.
Packaged in sturdy box, scrapped to a pallet. No chance of damage.
Quick service and a nice protection cover over the product during shipping to reduce scuff marks which I had read about in previous reviews. I like it.
I have only had soft car carriers in the past. I did extensive research and I'm wonderfully impressed with the Cargo Box. I can't wait to get it on the road. I'm headed to FL for the winter in one month. I'm pretty certain it will perform well!

After a year of owning this box and have taken numerous trip as well as having it mounted for weeks at a time, it has held up very well. I haven’t found water inside it yet and I wash it after each trip (this may be due to the fact that I did placed some rubber seals along the entire inside lining since I am not 100% it would be leak or water proof no matter what brand I go with). The exterior remain shiny as the day I got it. It is very sleek compared to other of the same volume.
I had to pick it up at the shipping site. Was about to have to install in the parking lot. After getting out of the box I was able to get inside the car so I could get home to install. It is everything I wanted, very easy to install. I love it!
Have ordered lots of small things from e trailer through the years. This was a larger sized purchase and the shipping was spot on, tracking was exact and item arrived in great shape. I would not hesitate to buy again.

After One year of using it only a couple times, the box itself is light and easy to carry by yourself, however that light weight makes it rather flimsyId be afraid to it. The cover fits nice and snug to keep your cargo dry. The crossbars on the 2009 Pilot need to be precisely 23 apart. Even though the specs say the minimum is 24, I was able to squeeze another inch off it, and I had to. No wriggle room if you plan to open rear hatch at all. Its priced much better than the high end boxes, so worth it for the budget conscious.
Fits well on the rack no noise when driving. Easy open locks well.
Love it... great to have the extra cargo space. Looks sleek and cool as well

After a year later, my Malone cargo box is still working great. Ive very happy with it. Ive gotten good at mounting it myself too. Two people are preferred, but one person is very doable.
