Cargo boxes, bags, and baskets are great for transporting gear on your vehicle's roof. A cargo box has the added benefits of an aerodynamic shape that reduces drag and wind noise, a hard shell to protect your gear, and a higher degree of weather resistance. And you can latch and lock a cargo box for added protection against theft.
The Motion XT L has 16 cu ft of storage space for golf bags, luggage, skis, snowboards, and other gear. The aerodynamic, low-profile design helps to reduce drag and wind noise, and the locking lid conveniently opens from either side of your vehicle. The box has internal tie-down points for securing cargo, and the PowerClick mounting system offers easy, tool-free installation.
This cargo box is constructed of durable ABS plastic that is lightweight yet rigid and impact resistant. It has a glossy black, gel-coat finish that is stylish and less susceptible to chips, scratches, and harsh UV rays when compared with paint.
The Motion XT features a dual-side-opening lid so you can load and access your gear from either side of your vehicle. Integrated, grip-friendly handles help you easily open and close the lid even with one hand. The lid has lifters that ensure it opens and closes smoothly. There is also a convenient pull cord on the inside that helps you close the lid.
The cargo box has SlideLock locks on each side of the lid. These locks have built-in indicators that let you know if the box is properly latched. The keys cannot be removed from the locks unless the lid is closed and locked. This prevents you from driving with an open or unlocked lid. The locks include Thule One-Key-System cores so you can swap them out to make all your Thule accessories keyed alike.
The box can be mounted on your vehicle in less than 5 minutes with the PowerClick mounting system. These clamps adjust along tracks in the floor of the box to accommodate different crossbar spreads.
To install the box, set it on your roof rack and center the clamps over your crossbars. Then simply turn the dials to tighten the clamps around the bars. The dials click when the clamps are secure.
The PowerClick assemblies on the inside of the box have fixed anchor points for securing your cargo. Just loop the included cargo straps through the anchor points and pull the straps tight to secure your gear.

Top was scraped up and cling wrap removed. Which I could have lived with. The front right hung was completely snapped off. Which for safety reasons is a big deal. So disappointed with etrailers quality for this order.
Love my new Thule Motion XT L cargo box. It arrived yesterday packed securely in a cardboard box mounted to a pallet. I was able to quickly unpack and install on my 2014 Jetta SportWagen TDI within minutes. Great customer service through etrailer.com. Thanks so much
We recently used our Thule Motion XT for a trip around the country of around 5000 miles. We used it to haul two snowboards (longest 160 cm) and one set of skis and ski poles, along with all the other gear associated (bindings, boots, etc.). The car topper worked great and has more room that I would have imagined. It is easy to use, the dual side openings have been very helpful, and it is extremely sturdy and stable on top of our Rav4. It did affect the gas mileage somewhat (about 3 - 5 mpg; 35 down to 32), but it is difficult to say how much of that was due to the topper and how much was due to the added load and weight. Even on very windy days, the streamlined topper was no issue. I would highly recommend this to anyone. It is a bit on the pricey end, but it has been well worth it for us.

We continue to use and love the Thule car topper. I continue to recommend this after using it extensively for a year. We have made multiple skiing and camping trips with this atop our Rav4.
Cargo box made it through 1000 mile trip fastened to the Thule crossbars. It was very secure and had little vibration in the wind. Bars and box do produce wind noise which is expected, nothing that can’t be masked by the radio or just fading into the background after time. Overall great product. Etrailer staff also very helpful in choosing box and bars.

I was hesitant to spend this much money on a cargo box that won't get used but a couple of times per year but I'm glad I did!! The quality of this box is excellent and it is really, really easy to mount. It is a bit awkward to carry for one person but with the help of another person it's very easy to carry and put on top of the car. The gloss black looks really nice and sleek. The 16 cubic foot capacity really opens up space inside our car and will make longer road trips much more manageable and comfortable. Being able to load the box from either side is a game changer! I also really like how it locks and how it has a notification if all latches are not engaged. As of writing this review, I have not actually tested it loaded or at highway speeds but I'm very confident it will perform as expected. Now I have to figure out how to store it!!
I've had my Thule cargo box for about a year now. It's been great. It's easy to install. It doesn't leak. And I can get it on and off the car by myself. I would buy it again.
Purchased carrier to carry golf clubs and light luggage. It was easy to install on my aero blades. Locking mechanism is excellent. Interior has remained dry while driving in heavy rain. Exterior has remained clean and shiny, however I clean it and put a coat of car polish on it after every trip.
The Thule cargo box arrived in perfect shape. It comes on a pallet and shrink wrapped. As for the box itself, it is well built and gorgeous! It will provide the much needed space for our travels.
I was looking for a carrier to haul all of our golf clubs when traveling, and not much is out there about whether clubs will fit. We purchased the large as our Land Rover Discovery is not a huge SUV and I put in three sets of clubs, sure I could fit four. Love everything about it, especially ease and speed of putting on vehicle. I have nothing but good things to say about the style and quality of the Thule Motion.
Took it from northern Wisconsin to Glacier Nat'l Park. Round-trip was over 3,500 miles. Solid as a rock. Did lose considerable miles-per-gallon, though. But that was doing 75 mph on the highways; bucking a substantial headwind, and with four adults in Toyota Highlander. Liked the fact that the key could not be removed unless the lid latched firmly. It was costly at about $800, but should last for years. etrailer bumped up my shipping by a couple days which was very much appreciated as our window for leaving was getting tight.

No trips taken, so no new news.
Very disappointed. A crack formed on the lid after the first trip. It was covered under warranty but shipping it back for a replacement cost more than a new one so no point. Now I have a brand new carrier and I guess I’ll duck tape it. The lid and hinges feel cheap. I’ve had Thule products before but will never purchase again.
Works great. Love the big tension screws inside. It’s big! Holds a ton of gear but light enough to get on and off a large suv with one person.
Great looking cargo box. Would’ve given 5 stars but product came with a scratch around one of the plastic attachment covers (see pic). Looks to be a Thule quality control issue rather than a shipping issue. Otherwise, box and product appeared to be in new condition.
Easy on, easy off. Requires two people due to size, but very light. Quickly attaches or removes from crossbars. Same easy access from either side. Only issue is that there is no easy way to get water (melted snow) out after use, though not unique to this model. And it look great on the vehicle. Would definitely recommend.
Exactly what I needed. With the dog taking up the main cargo area of my 4Runner the back seat would get way overloaded with our gear. Now everything just goes in the rooftop box.
This rooftop box has been everything we expected. What we didn’t expect was someone trying to break into it a a PDX parking facility. They tried to jimmy the lock but couldn’t get in though they did ruin the lock. They tried to pry the front open. They did get one small item out. They put a two inch crack in the lid but it held. They could have made a haul if the Thule had failed. We have been using it full time traveling since purchase so it has gotten a lot of use. We are very satisfied with our choice of product.
This fits perfectly on my Volvo XC60. I had to slightly adjust my roof rails as they were too far apart. It required two of us to lift the cargo box on top and get it in the right position. Once on top, it was so easy to secure to the rails with the knobs. Even if you think you've turned it hard enough, keep on turning until you hear the clicking sound. On a recent kitesurfing trip, I loaded 2 kiteboards, 3 kites, assorted gear, and an inflatable SUP. It took some rearranging to get it fully closed and the dual side access helped a lot. You'll know the box is completely locked once the slide lock is no longer red. I drove 280 miles at speeds of around 75 mph with no worries. You definitely don't have to worry about losing your keys - you can't remove them from the box unless it's locked.
After having an issue with the first product through no fault of etrailer, I contacted customer service for assistance. Tammie was super helpful and the team at etrailer made it right immediately. I would highly recommend not only this product but etrailer as well. They are honest and professional with fast easy to track shipping. An overall great company and buying experience!

Overall I am thrilled with this product and with E trailer's and customer service!! Customer service and caring people are difficult to find nowadays. Yet right away somebody reached out to let me know that there was another option available for my cargo box to ship right away, or I could wait for the backordered item. They again reached out when it shipped and after delivery. The cargo box came well packaged and was a snap to install. Its such a beautiful desigb, it looks like a work of art! It holds my inflatable 2 person kayak, oars, an inflatable SUP, life jackets, pumps and more. Im so glad I purchased tbis and spent a little more on what I really wanted. E trailer's pricing made it a lot less painful to my budget.
I love this rooftop carrier! It's relatively light, has great capacity, and is really easy to install and remove from your cross bars. The dual side opening and locking mechanism works fantastic!

This cargo box rocks. I use it with the aeroblades constantly. Both the box and blades were pretty hard to track down when I purchased them a year ago. etrailer had a good price and availability and pretty awesome customer service over the phone, to say the least. Good vibes all around and it was my first time buying from them. The box is super helpful when I go camping or need the extra space in my Highlander hybrid etc, and it really didn't impact mileage by more than 2.5mpg (I am always curious about efficiency). The two-sided opening ability is clutch too! I have found that I can really pack the cargo space with access from both sides, and how much I appreciate being able to access one side or the other depending where I might be parked (eg. side of road, awkward camping space, etc). You pay for what you get with Thule.
