The SkyBox 16 has 16 cu ft of space for sports equipment or camping gear for up to 3 people. The aerodynamic, low-profile design and the dimpled lid with Carbonite texture help to reduce wind noise and drag. The box opens and latches from both sides and is designed to provide clearance when you open your rear hatch. Sliding clamps accommodate most crossbar styles and spreads so you can install the box in minutes without tools. The durable yet lightweight ABS plastic construction prevents warping, denting, or cracking.
The SkyBox lid opens from both sides. Whether you mount it closer to the driver's side or passenger's side of your car, this dual-side opening lets you easily access your cargo. If you are parked on a busy street, in a tight parking lot, or even next to a campground picnic table, you have the option of opening the lid from the side of the vehicle that works best for you.
Patented EndoSkel stiffeners act like ribs to make this lid 3 times stiffer than other Yakima cargo box lids. The fortified lid has an easy-access edge and spring-loaded hinges that allow for smooth, one-handed operation. The extra-stiff lid also helps reduce road noise and vibration, and it guards against dents and scratches when the box is in storage.
The SkyBox has SuperLatch security latches on both sides to ensure that the lid is completely closed. The SuperLatch prevents you from removing the key from the lock unless all 3 internal latches are engaged. That way, you are prevented from removing the key and driving off with an unlocked box. This security system also seals the box against dirt and moisture. Each SuperLatch includes an SKS lock core that can be swapped out to make all your Yakima gear keyed alike.
The SkyBox installs with mounting clamps that slide along tracks in the floor of the box. These clamps fit most crossbar styles, and they adjust for different crossbar spreads. To adjust a clamp, loosen both knobs and slide the clamp to the desired location. Then tighten both knobs and push the cam lever down to close the clamp around your crossbar.
The SkyBox has an undercut tail designed to prevent interference with your vehicle's rear hatch or trunk. This tail provides more space for your hatch to fully open when compared with boxes without the undercut tail.
An integrated track system in the floor of the box provides tie-down points for securing your cargo. These anchor points work great with Yakima's SkyBox cargo net (Y07146 - sold separately).

Undercut tail provides hatch clearance.This box was perfect! Added an enormous amount of additional storage capacity for our Rav4. I was able to fit one large "checked-bag", a "carry-on", a pack-n-play, small storage bin, bungee cords + some kids toys all on the roof! Standard Toyota cross-bars. Installation was super simple; the box closes very securely and stays quite snug to the installed position. It was a bit unnerving at first carrying so much on the roof (i've seen the horror stories of boxes opening/flying off at 80MPH) but this box held up perfect! We averaged about 75-80MPH over 3000 miles of driving with maybe 100lbs of load in the box. Fuel economy dropped by a few mpg (36 -> 33) but overall this was a great purchase. etrailer was a fantastic retailer as well! Delivery estimates were right on schedule, and delivery was relatively straight-forward.
Just what the doctor ordered. The unit came by UPS freight and was delivered to the curb outside my house. My friend and I unboxed and installed the unit on the roof of my SUV in about 20 minutes. The unit is a bit flimsy, but once it is mounted, it is sturdy. Driving around town, the wind noise is minimal and there is very little drag. This unit will be used to carry the larger objects that won't fit into the rear of the SUV. Overall I am pleased with the build quality and the ease of installation.

Highly recommend the Yakima SkyBox 16 roof top box! It is so easy to put it on the car and then we have tons of extra space. It does not appear to reduce gas mileage at all!!! Very convenient that it opens on both sides. The extra space made it possible for us to move our daughter to college without an embarrassing tow behind.
I'm not only impressed with the quality of the product, but also the tech support from etrailer and Yakima Support. I had a couple questions regarding the right box for our needs and then once delivered, additional questions arose and they were quickly answered as well. The box looks great on the vehicle and I couldn't be happier with its performance.
I bought this (with Rhino Rack Roof Rack Legs and Crossbars) for my 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback and it was perfect: it fit correctly snugly, it gave me all the storage space my family needed, and I felt safe with it on my car. This was my first time using and buying anything like this before and I found setup and installation easy, no special tools required. My advice is that you take your time and you'll have no problems. My only wish was that it had a combination lock instead of a key lock; I'm better at remembering a combination than not losing a key ; )
I ordered this SkyBox prior to a ski trip. We love it. It easily held 5 sets of skis with poles (and would hold more) along with multiple bags. Freed up a ton of room in the car. Delivery was awesome, as it came to our house days before it was scheduled! We were super happy with the process.
Delivery from etrailer was great, they kept me informed every step of the way. Prices were very competitive so no problem there. The Yakima SkyBox 16 was a breeze to setup - it took about 15min and I did it myself. It's a great size for my Toyota Rav4 - large enough to hold lots of camping gear but not so big that it dwarfs the car. It seems super sturdy and can open from both sides. So far a solid purchase.
Ordering was fast and easy. The cargo box is easy to install and remove.
The only item from my order that showed up on time and as expected. Do not trust timelines for cross bars and associated items. My skybox will remain in storage (useless) for 6 months while I wait for the balance of my order.

This cargo box on top of my Toyota 4Runner helped us move two people and two large dogs from Virginia to Arkansas. The cargo box worked perfectly and the service from etrailer was great.
Super easy install... I mean Scraping the sticker off the side of it took 4 times as long as actually getting it secured on my roof. Plenty of room for the tailgate of my Honda Pilot to fully open too. Highly Recommended!
Arrived in good condition, no issues. Was in a box with padding that was strapped to a wood pallet. Was called a week before delivery to schedule a day to receive it.

I bought a Yakima Skybox from etrailer.com and have been very happy with the product. Etrailer was great to work with. They are very knowledgeable about what they sell and helped me find the biggest box that would still fit my roof rack and not have any clearance issues with the lift gate of my 4Runner. There is literally 1/4" of space between the box and the (stock) spoiler of the lift gate when the lift gate is open. Fits like a glove!
Excellent product! Works very well right out of box. The installation is easy but even easier with a second person. With a 2016 Toyota Sienna, Yakima crossbars, this fits like a glove. Enough room for trunk to fully open. Double side access opens up options for mounting to either side of vehicle. Center mount may require a step still to access. Personal preference... Shipping was via a 3rd party, which seemed to go well. There was a little linger in transit than I expected, but I’m not complaining as it was delivered in good shape! The product was the absolute best price I could find anywhere! I highly recommend anyone to etrailer. Exceptional customer service!
The etrailer folks are outstanding! Great products, reviews, and customer service. This Yakima SkyBox 16 has plenty of room for skis and ski bags for my family of four. It will not fit my 205 length skis but my 188's do just fit. One of the clamps is very sticky and taking it off is a little frustrating because of that. Otherwise it has performed just as I needed it to.
Great service and the best price I could find. I'd buy from them again.
