Specs:
The Malone AirFlow2 roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on the roof of your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. This complete roof rack system includes 2 aluminum, aerodynamic crossbars and 4 towers. Rubber strips in the top channels push down for easy loading of T-slot accessories and carriers. The full-length crossbars extend past the towers to give you more mounting space for carriers, and the towers have built-in locks to protect the rack from theft. The rack clamps onto your raised side rails and tightens down with the included tool, so it's easy to remove and install.
Aerodynamic Shape
The AirFlow2's Aerodynamic shape helps control air flow over and under the bar to significantly decrease wind noise and vibration even at highway speeds. This decreases the need to add a fairing to your roof rack. The aero-style bar also reduces drag and helps maintain fuel efficiency.
Lightweight, Aluminum Crossbars
The silver crossbars are made of aluminum, which makes them strong, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion. The bars also have plastic endcaps to protect the interiors from the elements and to give your roof rack a finished look.
Durable Towers with Built-In Security
The towers are made of molded nylon that won't fade or wear down when exposed to the elements. Each tower includes a nylon cover with a built-in lock to deter would-be thieves from removing the rack from your roof. The covers also protect the towers' interior and hardware from the elements.
Easy Installation with Rubber-Coated Steel Clamps
The towers attach to your vehicle's raised, factory side rails with rubber-coated steel clamps. The rubber coating provides a superior grip on your side rails and protects them from damage during installation and use.
To tighten, simply turn the bolt inside the tower assembly with the included installation tool until the clamps are snug. Once assembled, the towers and crossbars stay together as one unit, which makes removing, storing, and reinstalling the system a snap. To remove, simply remove the cover and loosen the bolts inside the towers with the installation tool.
Channel and Clamp-On Accessories
These crossbars have built-in top channels with strips that allow you to carry channel-mounted accessories on your roof. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channel capped and quiet.
Maximum Cargo Carrying Capacity
The AirFlow2 includes full-length crossbars that extend past the towers. The increased length gives you more space to mount accessories and carriers to your roof rack. The bars are compatible with most universal, clamp-on accessories and carriers.

This quiet, aerodynamic roof rack mounts to your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. Rubber strips in T-slots push down to load carriers - no need to trim. Full-length aluminum crossbars maximize carrying capacity. Includes locks. With one exception the roof top carrier worked well. The exception is two rail caps came off. (See photos.) The rack still works fine, but detracts from the appearance of the car.
The ease of installation with these crossbars was amazing, they feel solid once tightened down, and they look fantastic and ready for a roof basket! Never used this brand or heard of them but I was looking for affordable crossbars and these have 100% delivered. I also have not added the sound-deadening weather stripping that slots into the bottom of the rail, and I don’t feel a need to as up to 70mph I have not heard any new noise from the bars whatsoever. Fantastic product!
These Malone aero crossbars look great, were easy to install, and seem as strong as the much more expensive Thule crossbars I put on my wife's car. I love that the adjustment tool is included in the tower component, and that locks are included. I haven't had any trouble with the end caps falling out like some people in these reviews have mentioned. I made sure they snapped in properly when I installed. They're made with a section that flips out so you can access the t-slot along the top of the crossbar in case you use racks that can attach that way. These do hum a little when I drive, but I don't think any more than the comparable Thules on my wife's car. Certainly it's less than my old round Yakima crossbars. The other difference I've noticed between these and the Thules is that these are horizontally flat, whereas the Thule aero bar crowns a bit in the middle. This ends up making the Thules generally match the slight roundedness of your car's roof, whereas the Malone bars do not. This creates an optical illusion where you think your car's roof is flat and the Malones are sagging. They are not. Your roof is rounded and the Malone aero bars are flat and level. These are holding up great on my Crosstrek, and I'm really glad I saved several hundred dollars not buying Thule or Yakima again.
The Malone roof rack is simple and secure. It's more substantial than the factory cross pieces. The shipping was a little slow, perhaps due to the COVID-19; but when it arrived I had it installed within a half hour. I'm using the rack to haul kayaks.
Pretty easy and works well with my Thule motion xl
I watched the videos on how to install the Malone Airflow 2 Aero Crossbars and the installation was simple and straightforward. I'm looking forward to putting my new2 Yakima Skybox 16 on my roof and am quite happy to have found the solution for less than half of what a name brand solution would have cost!
We purchased this rack for my husband’s Subaru Forrester, replacing a home-crafted wooden rack. The Malone rack was easy to install, makes no noise, and is very convenient. Once again, I appreciate etrailer.com’s very informative, vehicle-specific product listings, extensive product information, videos, and posted reviews. All of that data helped us to easily choose the correct rack for my husband. Another great experience.
Strong, stylish and a perfect fit for my 2019 VW Alltrack with monster sliding roof and factory roof bars; just make sure when placing the Malone crossbars that the sliding roof doesn't hit any part of the bars. Easy to mount and remove from my car but if you take it off save your locational measurements for easier re-install. Also, etrailer was fast with delivery and very cost competitive.............
I purchased my roof racks last year for my Chevy Equinox. I was not able to install them right away because the delivery was delayed. etrailer was great about getting them to me though and checking on whether I got them or not. Before installing them my brother and I counted all the parts and thought we were all set. We installed the racks and when we had everything together we put the bar caps on and found three of one size and one of the other instead of two and two. There should have been two fronts and two backs for the caps. I left the missing cap end open all summer and used the racks often. They’re great. The only complaints I have are 1- without the cap on its very noisy when traveling on the highway. 2- when I contacted Malone. the company that manufactures them, to ask for the correct cap( I was willing to trade the wrong one I have for the correct one) they told me that since I didn’t buy directly from them that it wasn’t their responsibility. They told me that I needed to get in touch with etrailer. When I got in touch with etrailer they told me it wasn’t their responsibility but it was Malone’s responsibility. I think that since Malone packaged them it should be their responsibility. They both told me that I could buy what I had already paid for, and of course they don’t come separately but in a package of four. As I was going to be traveling soon I put a piece of duct tape on the end and called it a day. Overall I was Happy with etrailer, not happy with Malone.
These bars are really nice, but if you take them on and off a few times like I have, they start to come apart. The plugs on the end don't stay snug and the rubber pads inside the clamps that hold the bars onto the rails fall off. Just a matter of time before I lose something.
Love this roof rack! I've owned two others before this one, and these are the best by far. Almost no noise while driving, even at freeway speed. Was unsure how the kayak mounts would fit because of the aro design, but they fit just fine. Really solid. Would recommend buying these to anyone.
Hard to believe it has been a year already. But now I can do a long term review of this roof rail system. It's a great product for the money no doubt, small amount of whistle can be heard but it makes less noise than my wife's Audi Q7 stock rails. Directions are clear on how to install and even though it takes more time than other styles to remove as long as you keep track of what strips you cut for each rail, you will be fine. End caps are kinda flimsy and I was worried about loosing them but if you run some electrical tape around them they will not come off till you remove the tape. Over all I would recommend for a sub $200 rack that will do its job!
Ordered this product for my 2019 Toyota Rav4 Trail with the raised rail from etrailer.com as they were the only site that would confirm a fit on my car. The turnaround time from ordering to delivery is impressively prompt. And the product itself speaks of quality and fitted perfectly on the Rav4. Installation took me less than half an hour and I was able to attach my two old bike racks on it and the bikes for the weekend. The product performed perfectly and looks just as great compared to the others out there that cost twice more. Kudos to Mackenzie B. of etrailer.com who answered my questions and addressed my concerns all throughout the process.
First a kudos to Katherine B. at etrailer.com for being so helpful and knowledgeable about the roof rack I purchased for my Ford Escape. Installation took about an hour and is locked tight in place. The solid feel of the product gives me the confidence I was seeking to safely haul my canoe without issue. I'm very pleased with the finished product and it looks great too. The only issue I had was with one rubber cup piece that attaches to the unit. It keeps slipping down and does not fit tightly in place. A little Gorilla glue solved that problem quickly. I would like to recommend before putting the rubber strip on the underside of the rack, you leave it on the roof of the car on a warm sunny day to make it more malleable to fit the groove. With that done, I am very pleased. I will be doing a 500 + mile trip to the Adirondacks later this month with my canoe and grand-nephews for some camping and fishing and am anxious to see how the rack performs on a lengthy trip. Lastly, I must give etrailer a shout-out for the great deal I received. Comparable racks are many dollars more. Thanks etrailer.
Really solid bars and equipment, especially for the price compared to the other big names on this site. Pros: Construction/Quality: Solid feeling bars, weather stripping is solid Fit: These bad boys snapped right into place and took very little effort to get lined up correctly Usability: Fit my 1UpUsa Bike rack with the flush mount option and my Yakima rack (see pics) Customer Service: Had a question while installing and customer service was on the line in <1minute Cons: Time: Took me about 2 hours to get everything done (messing with the flush mount rack bolts, adding in weather stripping Add-On Parts: End caps were hard to get in, had to go in just right, and the weather stripping on the bottom was very difficult to get in once the rack was on (as per directions) and the flush mount channels were a very tight fit with the stripping in there (I had to remove sections and cut them to fit the t-bolts in and then fit sections of rubber back in). The cold weather made these strips much less pliable I think) Overall: I really like these racks despite the difficulties with the installation (really with my flush mount system). Limited road noise even at 80, no bounce to the racks when loaded. I'd recommend these in a heartbeat (so far)
This roof rack works great for me along with the "stinger" that allows my kayak to slide up. At 115 pounds I'm able to do this by myself with my 45 pound kayak.
I have only test fitted on my Toyota Rav4, so I haven't used yet. I'm impressed with the quality and construction. I like the thickness & strength of the aluminum cross bars. Also like the quality of the rail clamps and built in locks. PLEASE NOTE: Before ordering the 50" cross bars, I did some carefully measuring on the factory roof rack on our 2007 Jeep Liberty Limited before ordering and found the 50" cross bars would also work on our Jeep's roof rack as well. You site recommended the 55" cross bars for our Jeep. I didn't want the extra overhang when using on the RAV4. I have attached photos of the cross sitting on the Jeep. They are not tighten down for use. Just sitting in place for a fitment check.
Very solid bars and hardware. Be careful when installing the end caps as I can see where it would be easy to mess them up. So far they've stayed in but their design could stand some improvement. There's only one point of contact that keeps them attached to the bars. The Malone bars were easy to install and sit a bit higher then the OEM aero Subaru bars that they replaced. There's no more noise from the Malone bars compared to the ones they replaced and there was no change in my MPG on the highway with no load on them. Make sure you install the rubber strip on the underside of the bars to reduce noise, it works! The Malone bars obviously offer a completely different carrying platform then the OEM aero bars did! I look forward to many years of use from them. Thanks etrailer!
Put this on our vw alltrack. Fit well, snug to the rails and was easy to install. It is compatible with other brands such as my Thule cargo box and safari racks. It does have a bit of a whistle at higher speeds even with the rubber dampener (make sure to install these or it's way worse).
Very solid well make cross brace may be the best value out there. Would prefer a wider & taller slot for the T bolts as I had to machine the T bolts from my BMW bike racks to fit the slot. The heavy duty rubber tube that goes in the T slot to reduce wind noise fills up the slot not allowing thick T bolt to slide thru. Otherwise you would need to cut the heavy tube into sections to fill spaces between the bolts but you wouldn't be able to slide the bike rack on the crossbars. I replaced the heavy duty tube w/ a thinner road bike inner tube allowing the T bolts to slide . After a test drive the inner tube started making noise at 40 mph compared to the heavy tube that made more noise at 30 mph . Guessing it's the small seam on the inner tube.
I love the roof rack. Definitely strong and supports my kayaks well. We ordered the Thule multi-kayak carrier to go with this. However, the width is just a tad short for four kayaks. Still love the product, but only 4 stars because the plastic end caps keep breaking. The last time I ordered replacement end caps took over 6 months to get them. So, I don't like that the plastic endcaps are so fragile and not built to last. Everything else is great.
This roof rack works very well, and installs fairly easily. I like the built-in tool to adjust it any time as well as the locks for security. Only drawback is that it is indeed noisy. It tends to make two types of noises: one is a high-pitched whistle (which I have heard you can get rid of by using black electrical tape on the channel but I haven't tried it), and the other is from vibration as the wind speed increases, the whole thing vibrates similar to a reed on a wind instrument.
I have had this roof rack for 1 year now. Works great and holding up well. I use it for a paddle board rack in the summer and then put a ski rack on it in the winter. Its getting used all year round and I'm very happy with it. Only issue I had was on of the black caps on the ends broke the tab off so it would not stay in place. Etrailer was quick to replace. I have, as a precaution, put a wrap of black electrical tape around the cap where it meets the bar on all 4 ends, just to be safe. You cant event tell its there.
This is a great value product. I was a bit discouraged by the pricing of similar name brand products. I took a chance on this brand, and have been very happy thus far. Assembly was a breeze and fit was perfect thanks to the fit guide offered by etrailer. Would highly recommend this roof rack system, especially for those unwilling to pay double (or more) for other brands that serve the same purpose.
The roof rack works great. I use it to carry my kayak and have not had any problems.
