Specs:
The Malone AirFlow2 roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on the roof of your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. This complete roof rack system includes 2 aluminum, aerodynamic crossbars and 4 towers. Rubber strips in the top channels push down for easy loading of T-slot accessories and carriers. The full-length crossbars extend past the towers to give you more mounting space for carriers, and the towers have built-in locks to protect the rack from theft. The rack clamps onto your raised side rails and tightens down with the included tool, so it's easy to remove and install.
Aerodynamic Shape
The AirFlow2's Aerodynamic shape helps control air flow over and under the bar to significantly decrease wind noise and vibration even at highway speeds. This decreases the need to add a fairing to your roof rack. The aero-style bar also reduces drag and helps maintain fuel efficiency.
Lightweight, Aluminum Crossbars
The silver crossbars are made of aluminum, which makes them strong, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion. The bars also have plastic endcaps to protect the interiors from the elements and to give your roof rack a finished look.
Durable Towers with Built-In Security
The towers are made of molded nylon that won't fade or wear down when exposed to the elements. Each tower includes a nylon cover with a built-in lock to deter would-be thieves from removing the rack from your roof. The covers also protect the towers' interior and hardware from the elements.
Easy Installation with Rubber-Coated Steel Clamps
The towers attach to your vehicle's raised, factory side rails with rubber-coated steel clamps. The rubber coating provides a superior grip on your side rails and protects them from damage during installation and use.
To tighten, simply turn the bolt inside the tower assembly with the included installation tool until the clamps are snug. Once assembled, the towers and crossbars stay together as one unit, which makes removing, storing, and reinstalling the system a snap. To remove, simply remove the cover and loosen the bolts inside the towers with the installation tool.
Channel and Clamp-On Accessories
These crossbars have built-in top channels with strips that allow you to carry channel-mounted accessories on your roof. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channel capped and quiet.
Maximum Cargo Carrying Capacity
The AirFlow2 includes full-length crossbars that extend past the towers. The increased length gives you more space to mount accessories and carriers to your roof rack. The bars are compatible with most universal, clamp-on accessories and carriers.

I was little disappointed with the average ship time. It was almost like the product didn't get out the door until a week later, but I did get the product in working condition. As for the product quality the only complaint I had was the procedure/instructions for installing. I would totally recommend putting the rubber trim piece in the bottom of the rail during the first part of installation. Don't be afraid to slide that piece in the rail and cut it to size once it hits the end of the rail where it touches the mount. Its easy to cut and this piece is crucial to making the rails very quiet. I installed the first time without it and the wife hated me for installing these. We both looked at each other during the first drive test and said that whistle noise has to go! After installing the trim in the rail these rails were perfect for what I needed. It just needed a better instruction for installing it to top quality. I also recommend you put the trim in the first time because those side black pieces are plastic and they take a special kind of push in on the clip and pull to remove without breaking the clip. I broke my first clip but after that I was able to remove the other successfully. So because of the poor instructions and the removal of the rail to finish installing correctly I am now looking for a plastic end for one of my rails. Overall pretty good and durable. I also wish the instructions explained that when you tighten the mount that it also tightens on the rail too. Maybe I needed to watch a couple more videos about installing these before doing it.
Good knock off of the Thule Evoloution Wingbar; I purchased it because it was about half the price of the Thule when you factor in the price of locks, mounts and bars. The Malone Airflow2 bars are installed on a 2016 Toyota Sienna, with a Thule Motion XT XL mounted on the crossbars. Happy that there is no whistling or other significant noise from the bars. They seem really sturdy. The lockable mounting clamps are just okay in quality. While I like that the locks come with the Malone clamps (Thule charges extra), and that the Malone clamps can fit a variety of rails, the rubber covers that are on the underside to protect your rails kept coming off during install as the clamps were tightened down. Had to carefully splay them out, and then tighten clamps slowly and double check frequently that the rubber was staying in place. The installation was not as easy as it should have been - - mainly because the 58" crossbars have about 6" of overhang past the edge of the mounting clamps, so you cannot use the hex wrench tool to continuously tighten the mounts. You have to pull out the wrench and reinsert it for a three quarter turn. The main problem with install was putting in the vinyl/rubber strips under the crossbars, which are solely for noise reduction. I could not accomplish this in the 35-40 degree weather, as the vinyl/rubber became too stiff. Heated them up with a hairdryer to make them more malleable, but after getting about 6 inches of the strips inserted, they would stiffen up again. Accordingly, I had to remove the crossbars and end caps, remove one side of the clamps and loosen the other clamp, and then remove the crossbars. Then I could slide the vinyl strips into the middle, and then had to reinsert the mounting clamps, and then remount to the van's rails. So, the installation took twice as long as it should have. Thule recommends a 53" bar for the Sienna, and since Malone only had the 50" or 58" bars, we went with the larger bars, so we could shift the cargo box to one side for easier access. Wish they made a 55" bar or would authorize cutting down the size of your bars without potentially voiding the warranty. But all in all, these are a really good bargain.
Okay, etrailer seems to be okay so far. Just installed the Malone airflow 2 and it took way to long. I had trouble getting the boots on the rail system. After trying one side then the other, it still took a while to loosen or tighten, trying both ways till they finally went on. Bottom line, I had to work with it to long to get them on the rail system, but after I did! It seems okay. I honestly am not wanting to go through the hassle of taking them off and putting them on over and over. Cutting the rubber inserts for the bottom for wind noise may make that experience okay if it keeps the boots from moving when taking the rails off. Also thought I had one the book break on me but it’s technically not broke. Here is a picture.
I bought this roof rack for my 2017 Honda Ridgeline with factory installed side rails, and am very pleased. The product has excellent features for the price. Features I wanted: aerodynamic profile for a quieter ride; locking towers for security; and built-in tightening tools for ease of installation. The fit and finish are excellent. Installation is very easy and can be done in a few minutes. I use mine for transporting a canoe and kayak.
As of now, with only instalation and 2 miles of travel with it on my car, it is doing a great job keeping my Sears cargo container on my VW Atlas. It looks good on my vehicle and was easy to install. It would be nice if there were measurement marks from the ends to help center the rack on my vehicle, but I just used some TLAR to gauge it. It uses a 5mm Allen wrench so I put a bit on my drill to make installation easier.
I order Malone Airflow2 Cross Bar. I received last May 11, 2022 The cross bar lools sturdy, but upon checking the entire package The Bottom Rubber Strips is missing. The rubber strip is very important because it will reduce the noise when you’re driving. Should be putting an Excellent Rating for Etrailer, but missing a very important part of a cross bar is kinda sad and disappointing. Hoping they will send me the 2 missing rubber strips for my 58” malone airflow2. Please and Thank you.
Love these Aero Crossbars! I received them on a day where I happened to have a super long day at work. I was so tired but when I saw them at my door, I was like, I need to install these. I did the installation in the dark with little light. They were super easy to install. They are strong, sturdy sharp looking. I was wondering how they were going to be due to the costs. Hundreds of dollars cheaper than other brands I was considering. However, I have say I absolutely love them and they look great on my car. 5 star review hands down! I feel like I got a really great deal. If you are looking from some crossbars, I would absolutely recommend the Melon AirFlow 2.
Mixed bag- the Malone rack fit well and looks OK, seems strong. We have carried a lot of lumber on the roof, without any problem. Only real complaints- the plastic caps that go on the ends of the bars seems to fail and fall off. -We cannot open the Toyota RAV4 roof hatch anymore due to the noise level of the rack. -The rack is hard to remove and replace so we have left it in place full time. Positive of that is that it makes the car easier to spot in a parking lot full of other gray and silver SUV type cars.
Fit well and were fairly simple to install. Lots of measuring and remeasuring to make sure everything was balanced and secure. Included tool was awkward to use. It was not long enough to extend beyond the end of the crossbar requiring inserting and removal for each turn.
The quality of the crossbars is great, and I'm very happy with my purchase. I have a Thule rooftop cargo box and bike carrier on the crossbars.
Bought this to mount my rooftop camper on my sequoia, price was right and held the weight perfectly but it created a whistle every time you went over 75mph. Sounded like a train barreling through a glycerine plant. I thought it was the rtt so I took that off, figured out it was the malone. Had to take it off. Pretty disappointed.
Just returned from a 600 mile trip with my new Malones. Big fan. It took me about 30 minutes to install just perfectly. Very simple installation, everything is preassembled for the most part, I just had to mess with the rubber protectors, which was easy. They are much more secure and stable than the stock cross bars on my 2012 Explorer, and they look great. At freeway speeds, I had just the whisper of a whistle as I was going into the wind, without the supplied lower rubber gasket installed. I figured I'd see how much it whistled without it, and it was very little. Around town, they are silent. So I'll probably not install that gasket. What makes me happiest, is that they are much less expensive than the other brands, but have the same features (locking, fully adjustable, simple installation) It feels like I got a screaming deal, which I like.
Goes on easy, feels like good quality for the money. Looking forward to not having to put my bicycle inside my car!! ***One of the Malone stickers was upside down
-2015 Nissan Pathfinder. -Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Aluminum - 58" Long. This is my first ever roof rack so I am by far no expert. I researched many roof racks and I just couldn't see spending 500, 600, or over $700 on an accessory. The installation is not nearly as easy as some would think, in my opinion. However, I am anal and meticulous about every detail. I put the roof rack rail on and got everything into place with measurements (width between them, how much they stick out, etc). Then I mark the underneath of the racks for the rubber to go so I could cut it precisely (you slide in the rubber...although I think some cramped the rails down and then stuffed the rubber in). Pros: -Look at my vehicle...I think they look amazing...especially for the price. -Everything is very firm and doesn't move after proper installation. -Matches chrome on car and current cross bars Cons: -End caps are cheaply made, but I didn't have any problem getting them to snap in. Get a higher grade plastic or something -Directions that were provided were sparse and you kind of have to figure it out on your own, which wasn't too difficult. -THE NOISE is my biggest complaint. It's not terrible but enough to annoy me. These are advertised as "Airflow2" so come on. And I'm no aerodynamics professor but shouldn't the more narrow end be pointed toward the wind, not the fat end? Maybe a moonroof visor would help the noise...I don't know. 3.5 - 4 out of 5 because of the noise and because of the cutting and cheap end caps. But for the money, I think they're worth it. Good luck to your purchase and installation...it's not too bad. :)
The plastic things around the mounting keep coming off. I taped them with gorilla tape. These racks make a lot of wind noise. They are actually quieter with the top box mounted on them. For what they cost, I thought they would be heavier built.
The 58" Malone MPG216 bars replaced a set of 58" Malone Steel bars. The new bars feel sturdier and a definitely quieter. The fit and finish is great, except for one bar end that doesn't fit as tightly as it should. I put my Yakima Skybox 21 on top of them and they did the job. My only complaint is that they already have a slight bend after being loaded with just 140 lbs. I expected a bend to occur later in the year since the top box stays on for 6 months out of the year, but not after just one road trip. But, there was no movement from the bars or the box at all during the 1600 mile trip. So far, so good.
Just received the rack. Package was damaged on both ends as was one of the clamps, along with some small dents on the aluminum crossbars..a plastic 'retainer' in one clamp was broken but as this was not structural I went ahead and installed the rack. Went on fairly easily with the exception of the damaged clamp which took some fiddling with. Rack is on and will serve the purpose. Damaged parts were not interfering with the structural integrity and dents are not really noticable. Instructions were poor. Would recommend additional cardboard padding on ends of box as was evident that package was dropped on both ends. Damage was likely in shipping and appearance is good in spite of everything else. Feels sturdy. Not used it for carrying anything yet so time will tell on that.
The Malone Aero Crossbars are great. The bars are a heavier gauge aluminum than what I expected. They appear to be a better quality than the last set of Yakima bars that I purchased. And the installation was pretty simple. *** The reason that I only gave 3 Stars is because of the shipping issues I experienced. They were shipped by United States Postal Service which is a disaster. The "Expected Time of Arrival" (ETA) is a joke when you are dealing with the USPS. I have always had Awesome service with anything that have ordered from etrailer, so when they partner with the USPS for deliveries, it is obvious who the weak link is going to be. Free shipping is great, except when you are somewhat dependent on an ETA. Based on the door to door travel distance, my shipment would have arrived sooner if it were carried on the back of a donkey. My message to etrailer would be to re-evaluate your delivery partners because in the end, the product and the delivery are part of the customer service process. And they are making you look bad. I would have rather paid for the delivery and received it at least during the same billing cycle as the charges on my CC.
Garbage. Spent half a day trying to get 2 of the clamps to slide into the rail on the crossbar. Would not slide. Would not fit. Now have to wait until etrailer processes this and sends out replacements parts (7 days). Should have bought something on [online vendor]. All around terrible from Malone and etrailer.
Overall a good product, at a good price. Really only had 2 minor issues. One was wind noise when driving at highway speeds. This is a known issue, and was greatly reduced by installing the weather stripping on the crossbars per included instructions. The second is that the included alan wrenches are a little short, meaning that to tighten/loosen the clamps you have to repeatedly insert and take out the alan wrench dozens of times per clamp. This is not only laborious, but increases the risk of rounding out the bolt head with repeated use. Luckily, you do not likely have to tighten/loosen very often, or you can buy a long-shaft $3 wrench from [local hardware store] and keep it handy, if you do not already have one in your toolkit. Not a huge deal in the end, and does not diminish the use and enjoyment of this product.
Great fit so far, ez to install and look great on the roof of my 04’ Jeep Liberty. I have 2 pair of Thule Kayak racks looking forward to see how they work on the Alleg bars!
I had to give it a four-star review because the package arrived open at both ends. Luckily all the materials were still inside the package And I was able to install the next day
I've been abusing these bars for over a year now. For the price, you really can't beat them. They're a little bendy when you get close to the weight limit rating they're designed to handle. BUT overall, the install was easy and the bars have held up well under heavy weight and through long, high-speed road trips wrought with terrible weather. They aren't Thule or Yakima quality, but they aren't Thule or Yakima price. Pick these up and you probably won't be disappointed!
I received these racks a day early. They were super easy to install and they look great on my 2012 Ford Explorer. I was hesitant to buy these racks because they were so much cheaper than the name brands, but I am completely happy with them. The fit and finish are fantastic, I highly recommend them.
The item itself looks very sturdy and would work great, however, it was not the correct item for our vehicle, will be returning and ordering the correct item
