Specs:
These low-profile, crescent-shaped crossbars allow you to mount a variety of roof rack accessories to the top of your vehicle. The included rubber-coated leg clamps easily mount to your raised side rails without the use of tools. Integrated locks help to deter theft of the roof rack. Each bar extends past the roof rack clamps to maximize space for mounting carriers and accessories. Rubberized strips in each crossbar's top channel protect your cargo from scratches.
The crossbars are made of lightweight aluminum so they're easy to maneuver and won't add a significant amount of weight to your rooftop. And the aluminum bars won't rust so you can leave them on your roof year-round. The black powder coat finish provides additional protection against the elements.
Each crossbar leg clamp includes a key-operated twist knob to lock the bars to the side rails to help deter theft of the roof rack.
These crossbars are perfect for mounting your Curt cargo basket (C18115 or C18115-117 - sold separately), kayak carrier (C18320 - sold separately), or other clamp-on accessories.

If you’re needing them for a tent or heavy duty, perhaps not the best choice. I’m no expert, that’s just what I think. I was relieved to find these as a Subaru Wilderness owner due to the lack of crossbar options and dependable information out there. I just wanted something good enough to hold some snowboards/skis, maybe a surfboard, but don’t care about the fancy name brands. I’m sure there are sleeker sets but I find these black Curt’s to look just fine. Came with 2 sets of keys, of course hardware, and took 40 minutes to assemble including the Thule snowboard rack. The next test will be how noisy they are, which I still think considering these will be on temporarily for a few months out of the year, I can deal.
Very satisfied with this roof rack! Easy to install, and works well with the kayak racks I use. There is some noise as you would expect, a slight whistle, but nothing my music doesn’t cover up easily. I leave them on all the time!
Welp, I guess you get what you pay for! I wanted these to work as good as they look. But after just 5 months of garaged existence on top of my car in New England, the internals corroded and no longer gripped my factory rails. I was directed to customer service, and the guy was unapologetic and shared the warranty doesn't cover weather. When I stated my disbelief given the short life, I was rudely cut short. Almost like, Keep your pants on...I was told they would (begrudgingly) send out a replacement as a one-time gesture of goodwill. Replacement is sitting in my garage still in the box, awaiting a moment were my car will be too full of passengers to put my boards inside. Hasn't happened yet. I guess I need more friends who need rides! At least I'm saving some gas. etrailer has been great over the years -- but probably shouldn't slap their name on this product IMO.
Highly recommended-easy installation.
Shipping was fast and the directions on installation were clear.
They look great, and very reasonably priced compared to the OEM rails from Subaru.
I like Curt products on the whole and these roof rails do the job as expected - sturdy, they dont bend under the weight of my roof top box when its fully packed.
One critique: I didnt expect the screws to rust up so quickly/at all. Supposedly designed for the elements, it surprised me. I have sprayed them with protectant a few times as a precaution.
I have always gone for name brand roof racks and spent incredible amounts of money on various components and this was, by far, the easiest installation that I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to get my kayak racks on and make some use of them.
Package was received in a timely manner, but with some issues. The package inside the etrailer box was damaged and It scratched my crossbar, it was deep that you can see the metal piece in the crossbar. I’m disappointed because of that. I know it will get a scratch later on, but I’m very careful on my stuff so I know it won’t be as bad as that. Customer service is exceptional.
The rails are rated for 150lbs, the carriers and the kayaks are well under the weight, there is a little bowing under the load but not bad. To be honest I expected worse having read some of the other reviews.
Sure said the bike rack I got for it was compatible. It is not
Absolutely fantastic! So easy to put on and secure.
No noise what so ever on the interstate, nor driving normal speeds. 22 Subaru Outback Wilderness
The product was fine, but the instructions were inadequate and we broke one of the clamps trying to install it. A friend was able to put it back together with a bolt and nut, and it has served us well.
One of the bar clamps came damaged.. when I reached out to e trailer to replace, I was directed to the manufacturer to remedy the problem.. that was months ago.. the rack still sits in my garage, never used
Nice quality bars that fitted well on our Ford Escape
Horrible product. Would not recommend. Two of my biggest issues with this product were: 1. Bars were bending with only 100 pounds in the cargo carrier. 2. The screws on one of the rails would not tighten. I've read in the forums that it's very easy to over tighten these which will cause them to break. We were very careful when putting these on but alas it broke. Unfortunately I was not able to return them to etrailer since I didn't get to try out the product until a few months later. At that point it was too late.
Second rail would not tighten. Contacted customer support to let them know they sent a faulty product. Worst customer service. Now want to charge me $xx to return the item. Not cool, you sent me something faulty. I will not do business with this company again. Don’t believe all the self-promotion on this site about customer service - it’s been a long time since I experienced such incompetence with a vendor. If anyone would like to buy one rail that works and one that doesn’t, let me know. I’ll stand behind my sales and be honest that at least 1 rail works, which is more than I can say for etrailer. Hint: etrailer, you send me a damaged product you should make it right, period.
Excellent roof rack! Used for securing skis on all trips last winter and again this coming winter…..definitely recommend!
I enjoy my Curt rails. They have held up just fine on my summer of kayaking with multiple boats but there are two things I'm not fond of when it comes to this pair.
The Knobs Take A Lot Of Turns: I wanted to take my rails on and off between boating trips and this alternative seemed to be the easiest to do that especially not requiring any tools. The turning mechanism works but let me tell you what I didn't expect just how many turns it would take. What time you save without needing a tool is made up turning the knobs a good 30 times it seems and that can get a bit tiring on the forearms 4xs.
Too Much Bowing: I also don't like how much these rails bow with higher weights. I have roughly 100 lbs between 2 kayaks on my roof rack and it bows pretty well. That's wasn't expected for rails rated to hold 150lbs. Not only do they bow but they feel a bit elastic so I concern that on bumpy roads it might slightly go up and down. That wouldn't be an issue but I'm concerned the screws from my kayak holders might scratch/dent my roof. So I end up having to place pool noodles between the rails and my roof if I have more than one boat on my roof for safety.
Overall they still have held up well and they do come on and off without a tool as described. But factoring the difficulty for a "simple" on/off and the bowing of the load capacity I unfortunately have to say these bars are average. Don't take this 3 ratings as a "don't get these" that is not the case and they certainly they do the trick. They just aren't "excellent" in the sense of excelling at all aspects.
I have had this roof rack for one year now and have no complaints! I installed it on a 2017 Nissan Rouge. It was heavily used for hauling my kayak and canoe throughout the pandemic since it was one of the only activities we could do. It was easy to install and attach J hooks to for my kayak. Would definitely purchase again!

Spend the money and get a name brand. This is the second "budget" rack I tried.
Whatever you do...DO NOT loosen the locking side too much. You will NEVER get it to tighten down.
The Subby Wilderness edition has a wider than normal side bars. Thus...you think you are doing the right thing but in reality your not...
Easy to install, comes assembled, great quality, makes minimal noise at 60+ MPH. Etrailer customer service
was great.
First time customer. I was very impressed with the speed my order was processed and shipped and the way etrailer runs their business should be an industry example.
The Curt Roof Rack/Rails fit perfectly, they look very modern, well made and blend seamlessly with my 2017 Equinox. I like them. Kenneth
I recently ordered these bars for my wife’s 2016 Toyota RAV4. James was very helpful on the phone and they arrived very fast.
Unfortunately, the bars did not pass the test. After a 35 mile trip with my wife’s kayak on top (55 lbs), we arrived with the bars bent. Even after removing the kayak, the bars did not go back up. Because they were bent, the bottom of the Thule Compass Kayak and SUP Carrier kept hitting the top of the RAV4.
We followed the instructions to the letter during installation. Needless to say, we returned these crossbars and went with the Rola Rail Extreme RBU Series Roof Rack. Much better experience.
These bars are not intended to support a roof tent. There is way too much flex and the build quality is not as good as the tent mfg ones were. Cost more but worth the spend for better support and assurance you won't bend something.
My kayak fits well and the roof rack works as designed. I had one small issue with a bolt/nut becoming loose but that was easily fixed with some epoxy.
The adjustment mechanism is made of very poor and low quality plastic, it does not adjust one of the systems and it is the first time I have installed it, I do not recommend this article
