Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install this Rhino Rack Roof Rack System on our 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. A roof rack is a really solid option for expanding your cargo space where if you wanna put a basket or a box on top of your vehicle to get some extra cargo in there or maybe you wanna get some larger items like a roof-mounted bike rack or a kayak carrier, it's a great way to get some of the extra stuff with you that you maybe don't have space for inside your vehicle. Maybe you've got that third row seats up and you've got passengers in the back and your cargo space is a little bit limited, this is a great place to go because the roof is very large and the roof rack is a really solid one too. And the reason it's so solid is because it mounts directly to the vehicle.
Rather than using something like clamps or wraparound bars, it's going to bolt directly into these raised rails on your roof. So it creates a really solid contact and it's probably my favorite way of attaching a roof rack because for one, you've got fixed mounting points. It makes the install really easy. But two, it's just a lot more stable and I trust it a lot more going down the road. Because these have fixed mounting points, you do wanna keep in mind your crossbar spread.
It's gonna be important when picking out our accessories. So from the center of one bar to the center of the other, it's gonna be 27 and one quarter of an inch. So when you're picking out different rooftop accessories, a lot of them are gonna have a range of crossbar spreads that they'll work with, whether it's a box that has adjustable clamps or a basket that only has so much room for those clamps to go apart. You wanna make sure that whatever you're picking out can work with that crossbar spread because these can't be moved. Some other measurements to keep in mind are gonna be the 49-inch length of the crossbars themselves.
They don't have a whole lot of overhang off the sides. So for something like a load-assist kayak carrier, it probably wouldn't work super well with this kit and you'd probably need to upgrade to longer bars because with those load-assist carriers, you need a little bit of overhang on your crossbars to get that load assist system far enough away from the side of your vehicle. But with the kit that it comes with, I think it's a pretty solid fit and it gives you a little bit of overhang the play with for certain accessories. As far as how tall it sticks up on top of your roof, from the roof to the top of the bar, it's gonna be four and a half inches. Now, from the roof to the bottom of the bar, that's gonna be two and 3/4 of an inch.
So that leaves plenty of room underneath for clamp-around accessories because if you do have a clamp-around accessory, especially one that has like a hand knob on the bottom, you need room for that so it doesn't hit your roof and so you can get your hand in there to tighten it down. But for this, it's a pretty good option, it leaves enough space, and it doesn't stick up too tall either. On top of the crossbars, there's a T-track system. So if you wanted to remove this rubber stripping, take off the end cap and slide your accessories into the slotted hole on the top of the bar, you can. The only thing I'd keep in mind is that Rhino Rack's method of doing this is probably my least favorite because you have to peel back the different sections of weather stripping and cut it to length to accommodate those or just remove it entirely, which is gonna create a lot of wind noise. Something like a Yakima bar would work a lot better because you don't have to cut that weather stripping to length. You can just slide into your accessory and it'll conform around that T bolt. To access that T-track, it uses a special tool that you get with your Rhino Rack kit. So that's gonna keep it protected if you do use a T-track accessory. And for the towers underneath, you're gonna have a key to lock that cover up. That cover is what secures our mounting bolt inside so that keeps the roof rack locked to your roof. The only other thing you need to consider is the weight capacity. The whole system can support 165 pounds and that's just, it's moving weight. So whenever you've got it loaded up driving down the road, your load must not exceed 165 pounds, which is pretty on par with most of our roof racks. Just keep in mind that if you throw a box on top of the roof, you have to factor in that weight as well. So if it's a 40-pound box, subtract that 40 pounds from the total roof rack weight capacity and go from there. And that's all there is to it for the Rhino Rack Roof Rack system on top of our Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Overall, I think it's a really solid system. It fits well, the install process is very straightforward, and in general, I'm just a big fan of Rhino Rack's Roof Racks. I think it looks really good on top of the Jeep here and I've been using them personally on my own vehicle for a long time now and they've always worked really well for me, so I trust it going down the road. Like I mentioned before, that install process is very easy. So let's jump up to the roof and get that started now. The install process is gonna be really straightforward. Up on the roof, there's gonna be a few fixed mounting points that we're gonna utilize for our installation. You can find them by just looking on the inside of your rails and there's gonna be these two plastic caps that are next to each other. That's one point. There's gonna be point at the front, middle, and rear of these rails. We're gonna be focusing on the middle and the front one for our crossbars. I've already got the middle one installed, and we're gonna be taking these plastic caps off of each of those mounting holes for the front together. So you can use a flat blade screwdriver for this, but I prefer a plastic trim tool just because then it's going to be plastic on plastic rather than having metal on plastic and potentially damaging some of these components. With those removed, we're gonna turn our attention to the fit kit. This is gonna be the box that comes with four metal plates, four of these rubber sleeves, and then all of your hardware. Each of these metal plates is going to have an L or an R on them. L for driver's side, R for passenger side. And then all of those rubber sleeves are gonna be exact same. There's four tabs that will line up with tabs on the top of our plate. So we just wanna nest these two together, kind of getting that metal plate underneath the lip and getting those tabs to pop through the top. They can be a bit stubborn, but once you get those pop through, the two will be joined together. To secure this piece of the rails, turn our attention to the Allen bolts that are included in our kit, slide on a lock washer and a flat washer, and we'll do two of these for each of our plates. Getting that lined up with the threaded holes on the rail and just starting them by hand. Now, I've got a towel laid down for all of this just to make sure none of these metal components end up falling and scratching our roof up and it just helps keep everything straight and from rolling around. Once they're both loosely installed, we can take our included Allen key and tighten them down fully. Back down on the ground, we can get our crossbar assembled. The crossbar itself is going to house our towers. Now, with these, we're gonna have a block with a bolt on the bottom. We want this nice and loose right now because what we'll do is come to the end of our bar on the bottom side of it and slide that bolt or that block into the track underneath to lock it in place, but still loose enough to move around. We then want to get the right positioning. This measurement can be found in your instructions or by measuring from the center of one mounting location on the fit kit to the center of the other. And I'm just going to measure for ours from the mounting locations on the towers. And after I get that measurement where I want it, I wanna make sure everything is also centered up so that we have even crossbar spread on either side. That's gonna be the overhang on either side just so it looks nice and even. And once I'm happy with that, I can take that same included Allen Key that we used earlier, come right over to those feet, and tighten up that bolt underneath. That will snug down that block inside the track and immobilize the tower. Just like that. Then we can repeat that for the other tower. We can take the whole crossbar assembly up to the roof with everything tightened down, and just set it on top of the fit kit. If you measured everything right, it should just slot right in. We can go back down to the ground, grab our remaining hardware, and secure it right in there into the threaded holes on the fit kit. That remaining hardware will be a 10-millimeter bolt, lock washer and flat washer, and it's gonna be kind of tough to get it in there at first by hand just because you do have limited space for your fingers, but start it by hand and run it down the rest of the way with a 10 millimeter wrench that isn't included in the kit. So you will need to go and grab your own. A ratcheting one makes this a lot easier because now we can just run it down. With everything tightened down, you can secure your end caps. So you can use the key and the cap for the towers to secure that mounting bolt so no one can mess with it when you're not around. And then use the special tool from Rhino Rack to secure the end caps on your crossbar and secure up that T track inside. After that, you're good to go. And that'll do it for our look at the Rhino Rack Roof Rack System on our 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

This aerodynamic roof rack lets you carry gear and cargo on your vehicle. Full-length aluminum crossbars provide plenty of space for channel mount and clamp-on accessories. Installs to fixed mounting points on your vehicle's roof.Indeed they were the wrong parts in the box marked demo on them.
The new parts came and I was able to
Put it on my car with no problem!!
Thank you for listening to me and helping me problem solve. It looks great on my car and I'm ready to load the kayaks now!!
Kalie is a gal that sent me some return labels so I'm going to put that on the box and send it back to you guys!
etrailer.com's videos and additional customer support made the purchase of a Rhino Rack system from them for our 2010 Malibu a no brainer. The rack fit the car perfectly, and with the videos and clear instructions that came with the kit, I got it installed on the car with only one misstep. The instructions came the the measurements in centimeters and inches. I didn't have a metric tape measure, and ended up messing up converting fractions to decimal.
My Daughter is going to college 500 miles away and is moving into an unfurnished apartment and needed to pick up some small furniture that wouldn't fit in her Malibu. She purchased several items from Facebook Marketplace and was able to transport a twin bed and mattress, a medium sized desk and some dining room chairs (in several trips) with no problems.
The only thing I can think of to improve the installation would be to have the Inches measurements in decimal or to include an inexpensive metric tape.
The plastic insert pieces for noise control were poorly made. Some of them fell out of the bars. Others were very difficult to install. The crossbars were noisy also. I would not recommend.
The Rhino Rack system is an excellent one. It is so much better then the OEM rack that came with my RAV4. Before buying the Rhino system I had purchased one from Ironman, but sent it back because it did not have the vortex strip and the wind noise after 40 mph was very unpleasant.
Great sturdy rack. I put it together myself and have already started using it. I was concerned that it would cause leaks in the door the way it has to mount..but its Florida and its rainfall in the past few days and no leak! The weak link would be the end caps..two do not lock on and im concerned the will fly off at some point.
You have to order the cross bars and connector hardware separately. I also ordered the end cap locks.
I consider myself a pretty good DYI person and it took longer than I expected according to other reviews on here to get everything installed and overlapping the same on both sides.
Once installed the crossbars are very solid. I do get noticeable wind noise at say 70+MPH.
I installed these on a 2020 Jeep GC Overland and they look and function great! Was a bit concerned about the sun roof retraction with the bars, but there is plenty of clearance. No issue.
I for sure recommend the Rhino Rail crossbars. Etrailer is a great site to get the bars. Given the COVID issues and supply chain breakdowns retailers are facing, they still had everything I ordered to me in a very reasonable time frame.
Great bars. It's my second pair. Both on jeep Grand cherokee. The pair I put on my 2015 overland didn't whistle at all. This pair I put on my 2020 trailhawk whistled starting at 20mph and changed pitch throughout the acceleration process and while causing. I bought a fairing and the problem is solved. At least for now. I put the fairing on wit the label in. Looks better and Rhino Rack isn't paying me to advertise. The fairing they recommended seemed small but works so go with whatever they recommend.
My inital thought of these crossbars were that they were going to be too small. Two of the other big makers call for 53" min and 60" recommended. However after installing, 49" is a perfect fit for the Cayenne I feel. The rack is extremely quiet (make sure you use the channel rubber on top and bottom) The Cayenne is fairly quiet car inside and it was one of my big concerns but I only hear what sounds like a slight rush of air, no buzzing or whistling at all.
The downside to this rack is I think the black paint is too thin. Just laying it on the pavement while setting up caused scratches to appear. Silver would be the way to go if your getting these, or spray them plastic.
These crossbars were easy to install, are sturdy when installed and look great on my factory side rails when installed with the SX Series legs. The standard end caps are an all-plastic affair and use a little key to engage a cam lock. That plus the distance from the end of the crossbar to the nut that tightens the foot onto the rail keeps things relatively secure. Most people probably want to opt for proper locking end caps, though.
The rubber vortex strips look nice and give items something grippy to rest on. I haven't tried a load test yet but did drive around in moderate wind on the highway in multiple directions. Other than a slight whistle at 70 mph, you'd never know they were there. Overall, real happy with the product and looking forward to hauling some stuff around with them.
My Rhino-Rack Aero 2500 roof racks fit solidly on my 2007 Honda Civic EX. I was really impressed with the construction and strength of the rack system. Also the versatility of the 'legs' with a swivel pad allow them to fit any roof pitch perfectly. The clamps are so solid, nothing could knock these racks off. I added a paddleboard attachment and went surfing today. The black racks also look great with the black trim on my silver Honda. Great product at a much better price than Yakima or Thule.
Rhino-Rack installed on my 2022 Jeep Cherokee. There was wind noise (whistling) when all the rubber spacers were not installed, now it’s very quiet. I also installed the Yakima fishing rod//Ski holder. I wound up deviating from the directions and using the third lot, so the clamps would close on the bar. So far so good, without the fishing rod holder it’s low profile enough to get into garages, etc. Fast delivery on the products.
Received the roof rack on the date promised, it was well packaged and all parts required were included. Everything fit together very well and the instructions were easy to follow. The rack looks good on the car. Once the rack is installed and the included decals in place it only takes a few minutes to remove it and reinstall. This is important for me because we will only use the racks to transport our kayaks the rest of the time they will be removed and stored.
There are two small items that can be improved. First the legs are different lengths yet nowhere in the instructions does it tell you where each size goes. Second I own 10 tape measure and not one of them is in meters and I do not care how good your eyesight is you are not going to be able to measure to 53/64". If the measurements are critical you should ensure customers in the US have measurements they can use or include a MM tape measure.
Overall this is a very good product that I would purchase again and recommend to friends.
I bought this rack for my son who is a rower so he could take his single shell and oars to regattas using his new Chevy Cruz. First trip from Wyandotte, Michigan to Boston, Massachusetts and back was great. A learning curve to get in the right spot on roof but very sturdy & strong. He is looking forward to many regattas with this car and roof rack. Very Satisfied with etrailer and the rack itself and thank you for the quick shipping.
Easy to install. The pins on the legs clamp perfectly into the fixed points on the car's flush rails. This is a nice low profile set up. The top of the crossbar is about 4" above the roof glass and does not interfere with opening the sunroof. This is a very sturdy setup for our Thule Motion XT XL. etrailer shipped extremely fast. Very pleased with my purchase.
I ordered the complete Rhino-Rack with legs for my 2009 Subaru Forester. I watch a couple of videos prior to installation. Followed instructions and installation was completed without any issues. Product was delivered promptly and Natalie helped me with my order and she followed up to inform me of the status of my order. Thanks for the help and thanks for a product.
Easy to read instructions, easy to install. Watched the install video a few times just to be sure! They do whistle a bit at highway speeds, but certainly not unbearable. In fact, I was surprised as to how quiet they are. It's to be expected, especially when paired with kayak j-racks. So happy with this purchase and I would definitely recommend them!
Love the low profile
Love these aero bars. Perfect for on my 2018 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. Run fairly quiet and perform as expected. As always the customer service from etrailer was top notch.
I spent a week reading reviews and forums to find the right one for my 2019 Jeep Cherokee that I just bought a few weeks ago. I just have to overthink everything but it paid off. I just received them this morning and installed them myself! First time for everything! It was really easy. The only part that was frustrating was the very first part... sliding the rubber pieces into the crossbars. They would not slide very well so I ended up using a bit of oil to make them slide better. Other than that, installation was easy and quick. I LOVE the looks of them. Very gorgeous!!! Thank you so much!! Very happy with the end result!!
The bars look and feel great. They have such a tough presence while still being aerodynamic. I love the look of the rubber grip strip on top and I like how the rubber strip on the bottom ends have graduations so you can easily match the overhang with the other side. They feel incredible strong, no bend in the them at all. If the platforms were a bit more robust this thing would outshine all the competition. However, it competes with every other system at a much lower price point so that gets 5 stars in my book.
The bars themselves look great and seem strong enough for anything I’ll throw at them. However, I have an issue with eTrailer.com. In the detailed product description on their website, eTrailer indicates that three 15” Vortex rubber strips are included in every individual bar. However, when the bars arrived, each contained only two 15” Vortex rubber strips. This isn’t nearly enough to fill the ~48” of open c-channel and doesn’t match the product description and pictures. The boxes look like they had been opened too. When I called customer support, they said that the bars should only contain two strips each. According to them, the manufacturer only included two strips to leave room for attaching bike racks and other gear. But this directly contradicts the manufacturer’s product description. Also, even with three strips, there would be room for attachments. I suspect that eTrailer may be opening boxes and removing strips to drum up aftermarket sales for extra strips. I recommend the product but buy elsewhere.
The quality is very good. Ordering was easy and installation using the video made the process so simple. Glad I order them from here instead of somewhere else.
This review is not only about the Rhino Vortex but mostly about the customer service that etrailer provide. I received an email stating that my Rhino rack had arrived. I opened the shipment box only to find the rails. No legs or attachment hardware. Called etrrailer and they stated that all parts should have come together and asked if there was damage to the package. I said there was and it looked like the package was overly taped. Customer service rep Morgan advised that all the tape should not be on the package and it sounds like the other parts have been lost or misplaced. She promptly sent me an email to take pictures of damaged package so she could have new products sent right away. The rails that I received looked like they had been tampered with so I had those returned. Between customer service reps Morgan and Bay, they had me straightened out within a couple of hours and had my new rack with all the parts sent right away. As for the rack, how etrailer describes the rack on its website is exact. I could not give a better description than their own in house videos and pictures. The product received the second time is great but there customer support is excellent.
I love it works amazing on my 2017 Hyundai sonata sport 2.0T
These were very nice, and the fitting of the product to the car was excellent. We had never done it before, but with your videos etc. it worked out great!
