Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Roof Rack Review - 2021 Chevrolet Equinox

Hi, everyone it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we'll be taking a look at our Rhino-Rack roof rack system here on our 2021 Chevrolet Equinox. So this has the Rhino-Rack SX series legs as well as our Rhino-Rack vortex aero crossbars. Some reasons you may be interested in a roof rack is let's say you're planning an adventure but you need to the accessories. So you want to carry your bike racks, add your kayak carriers, a roof basket, or a roof box. The best way to do that is to get a roof rack like this.

You can also get a hitch and use hitch accessories but if you already have a hitch and it's fully loaded, this is also when you would get a roof rack like this. So what we have here are the vortex Aero crossbars and the Rhino-Rack SX, series legs. This is one of my favorite pairings just because how quick and easy it is to mount as well as to dismount. Now, this will only work if you have raised rails, kind of like what we have here on our Equinox. I know the Equinox has different options depending on what trim level you have.

If you don't have these raised rails that's because you have a naked roof and that requires a different kit. So check those out here at etrailer but we'll see how this works on our raised rails. So on the top we have our Vortex Aero crossbars and these are the Aero style crossbars from Rhino-Rack. There's a bunch of different styles. You have the more traditional square and round crossbars but then as time went by the modern Aero style crossbars we're made.

So this is going to be a bit more aerodynamic, meaning you're going to experience less wind drag and less wind noise on the road, which I love especially since they have these wind strips on the top, which will help guide the wind as you drive through the highway or on the road. So those wind strips or those rubber shifts on the top also protect the c channel of our crossbars. So when you take these off you can see how there's a track or a channeling side which is what you would use to mount your T track accessories. Now, the only downside is to this style of a strip is that you actually have to cut them up as you have those T-track accessories. So you are going to have to pick and choose as well as install them carefully so that you still have that covering without them.

So this is compared to Pulley or Yakima's version where you can just push them down to mount them. So those are just the pros and the cons. Unlike other premium cross-bars, which use a locking key to secure the system. This does not have it but it does have its own special Rhino-Rack security tool. So that is this blue tool. This fits right into the end cap. So you just turn that to loosen it. That allows you to take the end cap off and then access the tower. And when you're ready to go, you just twist this back into the locked position and you can not take that end cap off. Holding down our system, our RSX series tower. So these have rubber padding on them, as well as the tower themselves. So what's touching your base rails is that rubber padding. And they're a clamp that come together and compress against your race rails, creating that nice support for your crossbars. They are low-profile though. So if you are concerned about clearance this might not be the best option for you but if you'd like the aesthetic of a low-profile cross bar and you want something that looks almost OEM these are the style that you would go for. Now, you can get different length crossbars depending on the kind of overhang you want. This is the specific length recommended by Rhino-Rack. So measuring from our tower to right before the end cap, we have an overhang of four inches long. So that's going to be an important measurement for when you have different accessories especially kayak carriers with lotuses they require a certain length of overhang but also if you have too much overhang but maybe a problem is you do hit your head against the crossbars when entering your vehicle. So this is a pretty good length. Now let's talk about roof clearance. So we're going to measure from the top of our roof to the bottom of our crossbar. So that measurement right there we do have ledges are kind of like ridges, hills and valleys on our roof. So that will depend on where we're measuring. So the highest point where it ridges up you have a two inch clearance. So that's going to be important if you're carrying around things like skis and snowboards especially your skis with large bindings you'll want to be mindful of how much distance below that you have for them. Also, if you have accessories with clamps that go around your crossbars, if they're gonna be extra large clamps, you're probably going to want a little bit more clearance than that as for the height added to the top of your roof, we're going to measure right where I measured earlier to the top of the crossbar and it sits at three and a half inches, definitely a low profile system. Now it was really quick and easy to throw these onto our raised rails. So let's take a quick look at that. So my personal thoughts about this roof rack system is that it's great how quick and easy it was to throw up on there as well as to take off. And I do like how low profile it is. If you're looking for something that looks good and easy to use, this is the one I'd go with. Now the downside, and it's more because of the vehicle itself and not the fault of the system is that our raised rails don't have that much space. So if you have an accessory that requires a really long crossbar spread, you will have to be mindful of that. You can't really change it that's how your Equinox is made but still at least you do know about it. But again, for ease of use, quick to use, has the P track compatibility, as well as looks good, this is a great system for you. The install process is very, very simple. I already through our one crossbar up there so we can throw the second one up together make sure that this clamp is kind of in the closed position and just slide it into the track on your crossbar. And once that is slid through you just lift it up, get up over to your rails. It's not going to fall apart. If it does kind of stay in place and then you just get that in place for those clamps. So this is where you space your crossbars apart according to the accessory that you have mounted. Now, the Equinox actually has pretty short raised rails. So you won't be able to get a lot of crossbar spread. So we'll stretch it out to the furthest it can be. Which will be about twenty eight inches center of one tower to center of the other. So measure that out, make sure the measurements are equal. We have it at about 27 right here, and then you're going to tighten it down with the included tool. And that goes right into there and helps tighten those clamps. Once you have it fully tightened down on each side, then your final step is just to put the end cap on there and then use your special end cap key and twist that so it's in the locked position and that's all there is to the install. And that was a look here at our Rhino-Rack roof rack system with our Rhino-Rack SX series legs and our vortex Aero crossbars here on our 2021 Chevrolet Equinox..

Durable nylon legs let you mount Vortex Aero crossbars to your vehicle's factory elevated side rails. Custom-fit leg clamps tighten with included tool for easy installation on your rails. Pair with 2 crossbars to create a complete roof rack.

I purchased the Rhino legs, cross bars and J-style kaya carriers together and could not be more pleased with the combination. The system was installed in an evening and used the next day. The legs were very simple to install on the cross bars and then mount on the vehicle.

Just what I was looking for for my 2021 MB Metris Cargo Van with Raised Rails, for hauling a 14-foot SUP. I wanted as low profile as possible and the Rhino Rack SX Series Legs and Aero Crossbars looked best. Relatively easy to set up.

Unfortunately, the vortex aero crossbars whistled very loudly on my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. In addition, I found it difficult to center the crossbars with the SX series legs. And, finally, these legs would not stay tight for more than a day or so.

Using Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, Using Rhino Kayak holders. Also use a Rhino bicycle rear receiver mount. Love Rhino products.....strong, well engineered, low noise, and every part is quality... mounts, straps, etc. Photo is departure picture from last years trip to Big Bend, Texas. We probably put a couple thousand miles on these pieces of Rhino equipment on all types of roads at both Big Bend Park and Big Bend State Park... You really cannot go wrong buying Rhino products. Everything they make is well designed and will not disappoint.

Rhino products are just great products They work today like the day I bought them and they show very little agewear. You really cant go wrong with Rhino products.

Fits my 22 Subaru Outback Wilderness awesome! Great low profile and minimalist design. My only dislike is the bright white Rhino Rack logo on each foot. Sorry Rhino, your name/logo needs way more graphic design; the white silk screen was able to come off with acetone and elbow grease, but I wish the whole rack setup was fully blacked-out from the factory without bright decals or logos. One of the cross bar boxes arrived open/damaged, but contents were fine. Great rack tho!

Package, both items appeared used, but in good condition. The legs were not in the factory box, but just a eTrailer box. The instructions were hard to follow, even with a little help from YouTube. Just about to test drive to check the noise level. Time will tell, there is soft rubber on the legs and it may be wise to remove these when not in use, especially during Florida summers.

These legs with the Rhino-rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - 59" - Black - Qty 2 are a perfect fit for our Subaru Outback Wilderness with good overhang for a kayak loader. Check out the eTrailer video showing the install on a Wilderness. The info on their site is first class and a good reason to buy from them.

I bought the rhino rack rooftop rack a year ago and am very pleased with my purchase. I also added a rhino rack bike carrier to carry my road bike with me. It has performed very well on several camping trips in the past year.

The rack legs and cross bars were shipped immediately and arrived 3 days ahead of the expected delivery date. I was impressed with the ease of assembly and installation. The installation videos on the web site were very helpful. The rack is fitted perfectly to my vehicle and it blends nicely with the black trim on my roof rails. I am very pleased with the equipment and the price was actually about $50 below a similar rack assembly from a well known competitor. Chelsea D, who took my order over the phone, was very helpful and made the process very simple. Thanks for exceeding my expectations.

Its been one year since I installed the Rhino Rack crossbars and I have absolutely no issues. The main use is to carry my Kayaks on my 2013 Subaru Impreza utilizing Yakima JayLow kayak carriers. The only caveat is to be sure to properly cut and install the plastic channel inserts (underside) or you will experience an annoying whistling sound. If you're looking for high quality crossbars, I highly recommend these.

The crossbars & side rails were fairly easy to install especially after watching the etrailer videos & with a little help from my husband. I use them on my KIA Seltos to carry a kayak. So far they have performed well.

Easy to install on the Bronco Sport factory roof rails allowing for a very low install height for the Pioneer platform!

I am very pleased with the Easy to navigate website and expedited shipping for no extra cost. I ordered and received my product in about a week, which is very reasonable for being across the country.

The product arrived in tact and with no damage. Easy to put the rack bars on my jeep. I've included pictures of the completed result. We plan on buying the attachments that will mount our bikes and when we do we will be doing so from etrailer.

Easy to install and looks great

I did a lot of research on this product and others like it and even went to far as to buy a set from a different maker off of [online vendor] because it was far more inexpensive. They (Legs\Crossbar Combo)didn't work for my accessory (Thule Upride), so back the went.

I took the plunge and bought these paired with the Vortex Aero Crossbars and I cannot be more pleased. Rock solid, and they have to be when you have a $3500 bike on top of your vehicle. They don't make much noise and are very easy to install\uninstall as needed. I've used them solidly for a year now without a single issue!

I wholeheartedly recommend these legs and crossbars to anyone on the market.

I spent a week reading reviews and forums to find the right one for my 2019 Jeep Cherokee that I just bought a few weeks ago. I just have to overthink everything but it paid off. I just received them this morning and installed them myself! First time for everything! It was really easy. The only part that was frustrating was the very first part... sliding the rubber pieces into the crossbars. They would not slide very well so I ended up using a bit of oil to make them slide better. Other than that, installation was easy and quick. I LOVE the looks of them. Very gorgeous!!! Thank you so much!! Very happy with the end result!!

These feet worked like a charm! We were able to use these to install the Rhino Pioneer Rack onto our existing factory rack (2007 Toyota Land Cruiser). Adam at was awesome!

Nice, solid rack. It went together very easily. It will support my canoe and my rod rack fits well on it. It’s very light weight and the directions were spot on. There is also videos to help make installation easy.

Absolute best customer service experience. My vehicle was brand new to market. Customer service was attentive, accepted photos of the factory vehicle rails, then quickly recommended the compatible crossbar options and updated vehicle compatibility on the website.

Easy install!

They fit perfectly and as described, had no issues whatsoever. Whole rack system installed easily in an hour with all needed tools being supplied. They also work well with the kayak racks I had purchased prior to these.

The entire kit was extremely easy to install and Jaquan B. at eTrailer was very helpful. The Rhino-Rack crossbars look great and are sturdy.

The Rhino rack system we bought and installed has worked perfectly on our Subaru Crosstrek. We purchased it to hold a rooftop tent and it was easy to install, incredibly sturdy, and noiseless with or without the tent.

The one star rating is due to having to wait for a human customer service person to pick up the phone and advise. When I pushed the button to "place an order" I was attended to quickly. Here's the problem..The rack is SOOO SUPER noisy!! It whistles like a sailor. I was told "sorry, they are noisy, and you can buy something that will help with it from the manufacturer. I said I'd send it back, and agent "Lori" reported once it's been installed there are no returns. Too bad there wasn't an amicable resolution.

It was easy to install. The whistles are loud when I go around 30-50 mph eventhough i put the rubber and measuring strips up and down; fortunately, I still have the measuring strips left so i put it on the holes and the whistling was gone. Great product!
