Video Transcript for Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack Installation - 2019 GMC Yukon XL

Colin: Hey guys. It's Colin 00:00:01 here at etrailer. And today we have a 2019 GMC Yukon XL, and we've been test-fitting some rooftop accessories on it. And right now we have the Thule Wingbar Evo roof rack system installed. Now this is a roof rack that's going to allow you to get your favorite rooftop accessories loaded up, whether it's a cargo box, kayak carrier, maybe even just a couple bike racks to throw up.Now this roof rack system is going to mount to the fixed points on your flush-mounted side rails. You can see we have our security bolts securing the bracket from our fit kit, and it's keeping our entire roof rack in place.

It's very stable. Now what's pretty cool about the Yukon is that it's not like any other smaller crossover that has fixed mounting points, where you have to put your rear crossbar on one spot and your front crossbar and the other. We actually have more points if we look towards the back of the Yukon. There's two more sets of plugs that we can pull and mount our crossbars back there. So if you need to move the back crossbar back here more, because you have a bigger accessory that needs a bigger crossbar spread, or if you just want to move the entire system back, you have that option. Now up top, we have our 60 inch long Wingbar Evo crossbars.

These are nice aerodynamic shaped crossbars from Thule. You can see very nice aerodynamic shape to them. It's going to help cut down on wind noise and drag, especially if you compare it to a square or round bar roof rack system. So you're not going to have to worry about too much noise or too much drag while you're traveling at high speeds. You can see we have a nice black finish to them and it matches our Yukon very well.

Obviously not every Yukon is the same color. So if you prefer to have a silver crossbar roof rack system, you think that'll fit or match the looks of your Yukon better, then you can go ahead and pick that kit up here at etrailer as well. And then on top, you can see we have these rubber strips right here. We can utilize T-slot accessories with this roof rack system. What's nice is that all we have to do is pop open this cap and we got access to the channel. And what's nice is that we don't have to pull the rubber strip out and then cut it to length for our accessory.

We just slide our accessory between the two rubber strips to our desired location on the roof rack. And then we can just tighten them down and be on our way.And with our podium foot pack, this is what's connecting our crossbars to our flush-mounted side rails and the fixed mounting points. We have the end cap on right now. You can see, we have this plastic lock right here, keeping the end cap in place. Now obviously anyone could come up and unlock this plastic lock. So if you want more security, you can pick up a set of lock cores from Thule. We sell them here at etrailer. that'll just provide more security for your roof rack system. For now, we'll just have a flat headed tool, whether it's a flat head screwdriver or just our trim panel tool right here. We just had this laying around. Just grab it, unlock it. And I can pull that end cap off now. You can see the inside. Now this rubber cap right here and then the bracket are going to be the fit kit for the GMC Yukon. That helps it have a really nice flush fit. And we have these two bolts that come with our podium foot pack, securing it to the bracket and to the foot pack on the other side. So it's got a really snug fit on it. You can see how the crossbar's not moving at all. We're going to be able to get a lot of stuff loaded up here and secure. Now we'll just throw our end cap back on there. Again, you want to make sure you lock that up so that the end cap doesn't fly off. And again, I want to point out how you can see it follows the contours of our flush side rails very well to give a nice clean look. Now I want to go over a few measurements for you guys. First from the top of our roof to the bottom of our wingbar, it's going to be three and a half inches. So that should be enough space to be able to get your clamp-on accessories underneath the crossbar, without risking damaging your rooftop. And it should be enough space if your Yukon has a sun roof, you'll be able to get that open as well. Now, if we go from the top of our roof to the top of our wingbar, it's going to be four and a half inches. You just want to keep that in mind, because you do have that added height to your roof. So any low clearance situations like parking in your garage, you do want to make sure that it's not going to interfere with the roof rack. And this roof rack system does have a 220 pound weight capacity. But obviously you want to double check with your vehicle's owner's manual. Make sure that your roof can handle that weight before you load it up.Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's show you guys how to get this installed. Now we'll get the rear crossbar assembled for you guys. It's going to be the same process for the front one. Now what we'll do is foot it over. Let's get our podium foot pack assembled. I'm going to grab the last podium foot pack that we have. And then you can see right here, we have four of these bolts. These are going to come in your fit kit, while these two up here are going to come with your podium foot packs. So make sure you differentiate them and keep them separate and use them when appropriate.Right now, we're going to use the two from our podium foot kit. And we're going to take our rubber coated hook, or rubber coated plate. Excuse me. Now with it kind of angled out like that, we'll feed it up and behind those two rubber circles right there. And then our podium foot pack goes right on the top, just like that. And then with the hardware that comes with the podium foot pack, we're going to feed it through the holes and get it threaded on to the foot pack itself. Might take a couple of tries. You just want to get it threaded on just barely. Once you feel it threaded on, not quite. There we go. There it is. We got it threaded just barely. We want to keep it that way. We'll get the next one now. You can kind of see it's being threaded into this little bar right here that's on the back of our foot pack. It's got threads on the inside of those holes. So we'll push down on that, try to get it threaded on.There we go and we'll take the end cap off, so just pushing down on that tab. End cap comes right off. I'll show you again. Just push down right there and it comes off. And then with the tabs on top of our podium foot pack, that's going to go into the channel on our wingbar, just like that. It's okay for it to be loose right now. We'll put our end cap back on. Now we're ready to get on our roof. Now up on our roof first we need to remove the plugs of the spot we choose to mount it. Like you saw earlier, we're just going to mount it to the closest bar. Again, you have those other options in case you want to skew your roof rack back, or you got an accessory that requires a really big crossbar spread. Then you have those options. We're just going to remove these. They have some flathead tops, but they're just plastic plugs. So I'm just going to use my hand to kind of start turning it counterclockwise and it will start coming out. And if you do find yourself having trouble with it, this is honestly the first one that's kind of been giving me some trouble. Every single other one came out just fine just by spinning it with my finger, but we're just going to get a set of pliers and just try to pry it out. Again. It's just a plastic cap, so there we go.You do want to hold onto these just in case you we're to ever take a roof rack off or sell the vehicle. Then you can replace them when you remove it. And now we'll just grab our crossbar assembly and raise it up here and get it set into place. You want those rubber coated plates to be covering up the plugs that we just removed the caps from. And then obviously the holes on the plates, you want to align them with those holes from the plugs. Now with the hardware that comes in your fit kit, you're going to just secure those bolts into the plugs. Just going to use my finger for now until you can't go anymore. It's a little bit quicker that way. Do the other side as well. And then with our included security tool right here, we'll just tighten them both down. And this tool comes with the fit kit. And just repeat this for the other side. And then finally, what you want to do is tighten up the four bolts, two on each side, to get the crossbar secure onto your podium foot pack. You can use that same security tool. It fits on those bolts. We already have the other side tightened up. So we're good over there. We'll just finish up this side and we'll be good. Go ahead and shake the crossbar around. You see it's not moving at all, so we're good there. Now what I'm going to do is grab my end cap and put that on. And then like we talked about earlier, just any type of flat headed thing like this trim panel tool. Just use that to lock it up. Keep that end cap on there and then you're all done. And when you're done, I always advise, go ahead and grabbing your crossbars, giving your roof rack a good shake. You can see that it's not really moving around too much. And we know that everything is secure. The entire vehicle was moving. So we know we're ready to load up our favorite rooftop accessories and then hit the road.Well thank y'all for watching and I hope this information helped you out. But that'll do it for our test fit of the Thule Wingbar Evo roof rack system on our 2019 GMC Yukon XL.

This fit kit lets you mount Thule Rapid Podium-style feet to your vehicle with factory roof-rack tracks. The fit kit includes pads, hardware, and tools necessary for installation.

2016 GMC Yukon

Ordered a full Thule roof rack kit for my 2016 GMC Yukon Denali, including foot kit, pedestal mounts, AeroBlades, and Force XXL cargo box. Prices are very competitive. A problem with a different item shipping than ordered was promptly and courteously resolved so that correct product arrived quickly thereafter and return shipping labels were immediately provided.

Ford Flex

Have owned Thule square bars for many years. The new aero bars are amazingly quiet. Seem to flex less and the anti skid rubber on the top really helps hold the load. Fit well & easy to install. Am using it to haul bikes and crew shells.
Very happy with the service of etrailer.
Saved them in favorites and will use again.

2016 Chevrolet Suburban

I ordered the Aeroblades, adapter kit and a set of locks cylinders for my 2016 Suburban. The guys at etrailer were great to deal with. They got my shipment out the door quickly and was delivered in time to install the next weekend. Fits perfect and looks factory fit. All parts were accurate and delivered in great shape. Always great service and great prices. Thanks!

2015 GMC Yukon

Thule doesn't disappoint. This is our 4th vehicle to use these bars. We have only had to add the correct 'FitKit' for each specific vehicle.
Advice: read the directions completely and identify the parts before beginning.

eTrailer shipped completely and quickly. Job well done!

Great product that compliments the look of my vehicle while serving a function. Initially, the product arrived missing some key parts, but the staff responded immediately to my email and took great care of me to ensure that my experience was completely satisfactory. Carol and Kelsey are truly attentive to the customer’s needs. Great job everyone!

2016 Chevrolet Tahoe

  • Installing Thule Evolution Rooftop Cargo Box on 2015 Chevrolet Suburban Factory Crossbars
If the positions of your Suburban's factory-installed roof crossbars are not adjustable to fit the mounting holes in your Evolution cargo box you can modify the box by making new holes that will line up with your rack. Its easy to drill new holes and seal up the old/extra ones with a silicone sealer like Loctite # LT37467.

  • Transferring Thule SquareBars from a 1997 Ford Explorer to a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe
To move your Thule bars to your new vehicle, you'll need the following kit: Thule Podium Foot Pack, part # TH460 Thule Podium Fit Kit, part # THKIT4041 Thule's recommended length for the 1997 Ford Explorer is 50 inches, while the recommended length for the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe is 60 inches, part # TH712500. You will need to swap to newer bars. I've included a video demonstrating the installation process of these bars.

  • Thule Aeroblade Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2015 Chevy Suburban
As long as you have flush mounted rails that run from front to back on your 2015 Chevy Suburban the Thule Aeroblade crossbars part # TH711520 would work on your vehicle. To complete the roof rack you would need the following products: Thule Podium Foot Pack # TH460R Thule Roof Rack Fit Kit # THKIT4041

I attached a picture that shows where we installed the Thule roof rack part numbers # TH711520, # TH460R, and # THKIT4041 on a 2019 Chevy Suburban just like your 2018 model. This would give you a spread easily compatible with your Thule roof box like you need.

  • How Tall Is the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbar System Installed On a 2018 GMC Yukon XL
The Thule WingBar Evo Crossbar System part # TH711520, part # TH460R, and part # THKIT4041 will add around 4-1/2" to the roof of a 2018 GMC Yukon XL when measured from the metal roof portion, not the side rail. I have attached a video for you of this same system installed on a 2019 GMC Yukon XL as well. That said, i don't really have any other lower profile options as the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbar System is about as low profile as they come.

  • Thule AeroBlade Roof Rack for a 2017 Chevy Suburban with Factory Flush Side Rails
Absolutely! Thule has a special fit kit, # THKIT4041, that works with the flush rails on your 2017 Chevy Suburban. For the rest of the roof rack, the bars and feet, I recommend the AeroBlade Edge system # TH7604B-TH7604B. This system has bars integrated into the feet for a more factory appearance and low-profile design.

  • What is Needed to Install Thule Force XL Roof Top Cargo Box on 2016 Chevy Suburban XLT
For your 2016 Chevy Suburban you would need to have a roof rack installed on the vehicle that has crossbars that run from left to right to be able to carry the Thule roof box part # TH6358B. Your vehicle may have them already which means all you would need is the cargo box. Instead if you have rails that run front to back on the roof of the vehicle you would also need a roof rack with crossbars. For that the Thule Aeroblade roof rack part numbers # TH711520, # TH460R, and # THKIT4041 like...

  • Bike Rack Solution for 2018 Chevy Suburban That Won't Interfere with Parking Assist
Best solution will be to carry the bike on the roof of your vehicle since that is the only way we can really guarantee the bike won't interfere with any sensors at the rear of the vehicle. For that we have the Thule ProRide XT part # TH598004 which fits the factory crossbars of your 2018 Chevy Suburban if equipped. This allows you to keep the front wheel installed on the bike as well when travelling. If you don't have crossbars on your roof and only have flush rails instead you'd be able...

  • Recommended Thule Roof Rack for a 2019 Chevy Suburban
I recommend going with the Thule aero-style roof rack that uses the Podium feet because it is the most functional of the roof rack systems for your 2019 Chevy Suburban that also features reduced wind noise and drag. This roof rack consists of the 60" WingBar Evo crossbars # TH711520 Black or # TH711500 Silver, the Podium Foot Pack # TH460R and Fit Kit # THKIT4041. I also recommend adding the lock kit # TH450400 to add some security to your system. I like this system over the Edge systems...

  • What Crossbar System do You Recommend for My 2019 Chevy Suburban with Flush Rails?
I have a great solution for you. The reason why the Thule setup does not appear for confirmed fitments for your 2019 Chevy Suburban is because there is currently a hold on selling the Fit Kit # THKIT4041. This is sometimes due to the fact that our engineers and install team have noticed defects or other fitment issues with roof rack components. With that being said, we do have a similar crossbar option for your 2019 Chevy Suburban with flush factory rails. For that route, I recommend...

Then for carriers I recommend the Yakima JayLow # Y04073. This carrier also features ramps on one end to help make loading your kayak easier.
