A.J.: What's up, everybody It's A.J. with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be checking out the Erickson spare tire carrier bracket. You can see that I've gotten one of my spare tires mounted to the wall right now. It's nice because it's up and out of the way. I had a bunch of spare tires I was carrying.

I threw them on here for a long time, but then it got in the way of the fun stuff I was trying to pull in. Then put it on the shelves for a while. Now I'm annoyed that they're on the shelf, taking up all that shelf space. I want to put some more things in here instead, so I needed a solution to get them off of there and up off the ground and make sure they're secure and not rolling around back here. And this is the perfect solution for that. All the components in the bracket itself are made out of zinc-plated steel.

So even if you don't put yours inside of an enclosure like we have today, you can put it on an open trailer or something. It's going to hold up to the elements. Let's go ahead and back it off so we can take a closer look at the mounting bracket itself. Now this does fit wheels from 14 to 15 inch in size, and it's a no-tool installation, so that's nice. You can hand tighten it and hand loosen it.

And just like that, we remove the tire. This is the mounting bracket itself. You can see it mounts with two screws. Now, it doesn't come with that hardware. You have to find your own.

We used wood screws today in the side of our trailer, but it was a pretty easy install. Let's check out how we did it.So I took one of the spare tires down off the shelf. I wanted to use this one to help us mount the spare tire carrier. I'm going to put it right where I want it. I want it touching the ground here next to the shelves, but at least it's up and to the sidewall, giving more room on the shelf and over here on the floor. I'm going to line up this bracket with the tire in place. And then I suggest marking some holes, which I've already done.I pulled away the tire to give you a better look at the holes I marked here for the bracket. We're just going to go ahead and line that up and use some wood screws and put it in the side of the trailer. With the top one started, you want to make sure you go ahead and put the rod through, because once you screw it into the side of the trailer, you can't do that. So we're just going ahead and slide it through, put it down, get it out of the way. Now we'll fully fasten the bracket to the wall of the trailer.Looks good. Here's something I want to show you before we add the tire on there. If the rod's in your way and you don't currently have a tire mounted to the spare tire carrier, you can just go down the slot here and flip it around, and it faces down and out of the way so you don't have to worry about it hitting your shins when you're walking around in your trailer. Now we're ready to add our tire. Just going to roll it over here, line it up with where the rod comes through the center, lift up the tire, and move it in towards the wall. I'm going to grab our plate and feed that on like so. Our wing nut here on the outside. Make sure the groove of the plate is on the outside and the wings of this nut are facing outward. And just start tightening it down. It's not going anywhere. It was that easy to install. Just two screws in the side of the wall, and my tire's up and secure. You see I'm shaking the trailer back and forth. This tire's not rattling or anything like that, so it's not going anywhere. I got it up off the floor and off of my shelf, making more room in my trailer. We can even add another one here and stack the other one on the shelf on top of this one if we wanted to.That does it for our look at the Erickson spare tire carrier bracket. Hope this helped.

This was just what I needed! Easy to install, functions perfectly and helps to keep my horse trailer tack room from getting cluttered. Perfect solution to a travel problem. I won't be caught again having to search for a spare tire on a long trip.

This is a well made tire mount. It continues to perform superbly.

The EM77316 does the job to keep spare tires out of your trailer's hauling space. Each one installed with ease in less than 5 minutes.
The product's price is too much for such simple and lightweight hardware, but I didn't have time to fabricate my own design.

The EM77316 is doing its job well after 1 year. It hasnt been touched since installation. I plan to buy 2 more when my new trailer is delivered I sure hope the cost comes down, just too expensive for how small and simple it is.

by:

This spare tire/wheel support bracket is simple in design, simple to install and reinstall. It's fabrication seems somewhat light-duty, but it does hold my spares securely as shown in the photo. Use the largest anchor screws that you can, I recommend gluing your anchors into your trailer's wood paneling, if applicable.
This bracket misses a 5-star rating only because of price. For such a simple device, it is very expensive.

The spare tire trailer bracket by Erickson is not the best, but it will get the job done. The quality shows this product isn't USA made. The service, shipping, and price provided by eTrailer is a 5-star rating. ETrailer is the first place I look for trailer needs.

We recently purchased a new covered trailer to haul our 3-wheel motorcycle on long trips. On our first long trip up north from Florida, we realized we better get a spare tire...JUST IN CASE. After returning home, we found the spare had moved all over the inside of the trailer. After a quick search on [online store] I found your spare tire bracket. Because our next trip in a couple of months away, I procrastinated a couple of weeks before finally installing it, and it only took a few minutes, and it will be perfect. It will hold the spare upright and out of the way of the bike.

by:

Extremely easy and quick install. Had to buy my own bolts. Went with 1/4” sheet metal self tapping 1&1/4” in length and it mounted perfect.
Mounted my spare to the rear of my cargo trailer so I wouldn’t have to unload everything just to get to the spare in the event of a flat.

by:

Works great!

by:

Does what its supposed to; hold a spare wheel against the side wall or back of a trailer, when the weight of the wheel can be supported by the bumper or trailer floor. Seems a little flimsy for the price, but it works.

by:

This is Exactly what I was looking for and is perfect for my box trailer exactly what I was looking for. I was very pleasantly impressed of how rocksolid the mount was with my tire attached to it. I usedd self drilling screws and attached it through the plywood into the trailer’s aluminum studs.

by:

1 of my 3 was not not threaded correctly and was not usable. It's a super simple design, this shows that quality control is virtually zero.

That is so frustrating! I will have our customer service team send a replacement. Thanks for letting us know.

by:

The initial part had a minor manufacturing defect, but etrailer customer service was excellent! I called on a Friday, they were very courteous and I had my replacement on Monday. The bracket was easy to install and works well. I especially like that the bolt drops down out of the way when not in use.

by:

Product is exactly what was ordered. Fast service. Great customer service.

by:

Works great for holding the spare on our utility trailer!

by:

Exactly what I needed and wanted.
Excellent
service from etrailer. Nathan was very helpful.
Would definitely shop there again.

by:

This tire mount was well represented in the catalog and I was not disappointed.

by:

The welded nut on spinner handle mis-welded. Tried to force it on and stripped bolt. Called their customer service and they want pictures, receipts etc for a $2 part.

by:

I have an ALUMA flat bed trailer that I use to haul my RZR (side by side). I bolted this to the floor of the trailer, over the axle, so the spare wheel lays on the floor under the RZR. Works great.

Great- I used it to mount spare flat on the trailer bed, then load RZR over the spare wheel.

by:

It is very lightweight and cheaply made. For the price, it should have been much heavier. You should offer something that is better, especially for larger trailer tires, like the one that I bought. Even if it costs more and put a disclaimer the the tire mount is only suitable for small trailer tires.

We do not carry a heavier duty wing nut style carrier however if you have a bumper that you can use we do have a heavier duty u bolt style carrier part # TR-2 available.

by:

It’s perfect for my utility trailer. Easy to install and appears to be very durable.

by:

Simple installation, it does the job

by:

Very affordable and easy way to keep spare tire mounted in the trailer.

by:

Works good so far

So far so good, havent needed to change the tire. The only thing that would be better would be if it stored my cross shaped lug wrench and my old scissor jack

by:

Works great, a couple of screws into the wood wall of my trailer and my spare tire is up and out of the way, been holding up just fine for one year.

by:

Came in as described but I ordered the wrong part. Fast shipping and great customer service.

by:

These carriers are fantastic. I use them to hold spare 37" truck tires in the bed of my truck and since they fold down they don't take up any space or cause a hazard to any inattentive people. Tough, easy to use, and convenient make these and must have. I will be getting more!

  • Recommendation for Carrying Spare Tire in Enclosed Trailer
I wouldn't recommend mounting the Erickson # EM77316 spare tire carrier on the door of an enclosed trailer. The carrier is meant to be installed inside an enclosed trailer, and is designed to hold the tire upright, not suspend it so the tire needs to be sitting on the trailer floor while installed on the carrier, as shown in the linked video. If the carrier is installed as intended, it'll be difficult to open or close the door as the tire would be in contact with the floor of the trailer....

  • Could Erickson Spare Trailer Tire Bracket Kit # EM77316 Fit 16 inch Diameter Wheel
Typically wheels that are larger than 15 inch in diameter will have a hub mounting flange and pilot diameter that is too large for the Erickson Spare Trailer Tire Bracket Kit # EM77316 to fit well. This has an outer diameter of 5 inches so if you compare that to your wheel and it would work fine then this would be a solution that would work well.

  • Recommended Spare Tire Holder for RV Bumper Cargo Carrier
The 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for RV Bumper - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs # e99049 you referenced doesn't have a specific spare tire holder. The Buyers Products Spare Tire Carrier # 3375201010, the Fulton Economy Spare Tire Carrier with Lock # FETCHL0700, or the Erickson Spare Trailer Tire Bracket Kit # EM77316 are options you could make work with that carrier. I'd go with the Buyers Product option because it offers support over a longer area.

  • Could Erickson Spare Trailer Tire Bracket Kit # EM77316 Secure Spare to Top of Trailer Floor
Yes, the Erickson Spare Trailer Tire Bracket Kit # EM77316 could secure a spare to the floor of a trailer like you mentioned. It would easily be able to hold a spare down.

  • Recommended Spare Tire Carrier For 8-Bolt Wheels
I have a different style spare tire carrier for you, but there is not a version of the Erickson Spare Trailer Tire Bracket Kit # EM77316 you were looking at that is compatible with 8-bolt wheels. Instead you will need the Spare Tire Carrier # 413200 which is compatible like 8 bolt wheels like you were wanting, and can either be welded to the metal frame of your trailer, or can be bolted on as long as it is attached to a very secure section of the trailer. It may be necessary to reinforce...

  • Recommended Spare Tire Carrier for a Snowmobile Trailer With 8 Inch Wheels
With your rim having an inner diameter of 7-1/4 inches, the Demco Spare Tire Carrier for Bolt-On Swivel Jack - Black # DM15853-76 will end up being a little too large. The place where a wheel secures to it measures right at 8-3/4 inches and will be a little too big for your rim. However, I do have a couple other options for you. The first will be a little odd, but can work with a lot of different applications. The Erickson Spare Trailer Tire Bracket Kit # EM77316 works with just about...

You will need to use the Lippert Spare Tire Winch # LC159056 with the Crank Extension # LC1315411 to mount a spare tire under your truck bed. • Trailer Spare Tire Carrier Recommendation that can Be Used on 12 inch or 13 inch Diameter Wheels
The Erickson spare wheel mount part # EM77316 that you referenced was not designed to be used on wheels smaller than 14 inches in diameter. The cap diameter is 5 inches which is typically too large to fit smaller wheels. If you measure the diameter of the mounting flange on your wheel and it's smaller than 5 inches in diameter though it would fit and work well. Otherwise you'd have to look into a spare carrier designed for the smaller wheel diameters like the CE Smith U-Bolt style carrier...
