Video Transcript for Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler Review

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at the Fulton Fas-Loc Coupler for 2-inch balls, rated for 3500 pounds for 2-and-a-half inch channel tongue trailers, part number F222500301. Here's what our coupler looks like installed. This coupler will allow us to attach our trailer up to a vehicle that has a two-inch hitch ball on it. It's a quick and easy coupling with our quick trigger latch coupler. Just pull up on this to release it. Once you have dropped your coupler down on the ball, simply push down, and it locks into place.

What sets this coupler apart from others on the market is that the zMAX finish on it will make it corrosion-resistant, so to last it a very long time. One nice feature about this coupler is that we have a hole right here that we can secure our latch with a padlock to prevent theft. This coupler was designed to work with two-and-a-half inch diameter trailer tongues such as this one here. It has a 3500 pound capacity, and works for two-inch hitch balls. This coupler features the industry standard three-and-one-eighths-of-an-inch distance between center and center of the two bolt holes to secure to our trailer tongue. Our coupler is ten-and-five-eighths-of-an-inch in overall length.

This coupler is a quick and easy way to replace a damaged or a worn out coupler. Alternatively, you can also use it to change your ball sizes being used, so if you have an inch-and-seven-eighths coupler, but yet all your ball mounts for your truck or your car is a two-inch ball, you can upgrade to this one and have a two-inch ball coupler as well. Now that we've gone over a couple features of our coupler, we'll show you how to get it installed. Here we are at our trailer. We're gonna show you how to replace our coupler.

Now the main reason you're gonna want a replacement coupler is if your old one is worn out, damaged, missing pieces, or if you have an inch-and-seven-eighths coupler such as this one that's on our trailer, and you wanna upgrade to a two-inch ball, you can do that as well to make it easier for you to not have to switch out your drawbar or your ball in order to tow multiple different trailers. So the first step will be to remove our old coupler. Most applications, you'll find it's held in place with two bolts. So you'll need a wrench and a socket to remove those bolts. Our old coupler was held in place with a seven-16th bolt, and our new coupler has a half-inch diameter hole, so we need to reuse new half-inch diameter bolts. Now our hole spacing also seems slightly different.

So we'll line up our coupler, and place in line with our front hole. Clamp it in place, and we'll use the holes in our coupler as a guide to drill out our back hole, and properly enlarge our front hole. We'll make a mark with our half-inch diameter drill bit for the back hole to make sure it's centered, and we'll enlarge the front. With our front hole enlarged properly, we will now use a smaller drill bit to go where we marked the center, drill out, and work our way up to half-inch diameter. Okay, with our pilot hole made, I'll use a step bit to enlarge it to a half-inch. We'll repeat the same process for either side of the trailer.Alright, now that we have our one hole enlarged and our second one made, we can now actually install our coupler. But first, the way our safety chains are attached on our trailer, they go through the tongue of our trailer, and the back bolt that holds our coupler in place will secure them in place. So first, we'll make sure that our chains pass through our tongue, place our coupler on top, pass our bolt through the coupler and the chain. You can see how our chains are wrapped around our bolt. This will keep them in place and provide a secure attachment point for our trailer. Now we'll pass our second bolt through the front and we'll thread on some new nylon lock nuts. And now we'll tighten the bolts down. Now that all of our hardware's tight, our coupler is installed and ready to hook back up to our vehicle. And that concludes our look at the Fulton Fas-Loc Coupler for 2-inch balls, rated at 3500 pounds for 2-and-a-half inch channel tongue trailers, part number F222500301.

Coupler arrived as stated by etrailer, earlier than I thought it would. It's mounted and fits perfect. I rarely right reviews [maybe 5 in 15 years] but etrailer with their emails made me feel like they actually cared about my order. Great job etrailer !!!!!!!!

Review from a similar Fas-Lok in Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler

Very happy with this purchase and others. I bought several products from etrailer when rebuilding a trailer I got from my Son in Law. I found the various videos describing the products I purchased were extremely informative and removed doubt about whether I was getting the correct Item. I now have a rebuilt trailer that is reliable and just what I needed to haul my four wheeler. Thanks for your help!

Review from a similar Fas-Lok in Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler

6 wks. ago I started on a refurbishing project off a 1988 Holsclaw boat trailer. I stripped all the paint off, ground and sanded the rust, primed and painted everything, replaced ALL the fasteners with stainless stell and some galvanized. I ordered several things from etrailer.com . Everything I ordered was to exact specifications and the shipping was on-time, everytime. I ordered several bearing items to repack the hubs, this coupler and nifty lifting handle, transom tie down brackets, spare tire carrier and 3 new 570x80 tires mounted on galvanized rims and the company installed stems, free of charge! I love the way this project came out and I've thoroughly enjoyed shopping @ etrailer.com! Thank you!

Review from a similar Fas-Lok in Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler

Just installed my hitch to my boat trailer. I replaced my 1 7/8 in ball hitch with the new 2". Mounting holes were identical to my old hitch so it only took 15 minutes to put the new hitch on. Great quality at a good price. I am a repeat customer of etrailer and all has been good.

Review from a similar Fas-Lok in Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler

This is the second Fulton Class 1 Coupler (Item E112000340) that I have bought from etrailer.com. I particularly like this coupler because it fits a 2" square tube the way it should. There is very little gap between the 2" tube and the inside of the coupler, unlike I have found on various other well known brands. I will continue to buy the Fulton product as long as they continue to make it the same fit. Very pleased with this coupler and etrailer"s service. I have included a photo of the two projects I used the couplers on..

Review from a similar Fas-Lok in Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler

The Foulton new coupler makes my old trailer look new again! It is a perfect match for the original; I just had to drill one of the holes a bit larger to line up one of the retaining bolts.

Ask the Experts about this Fulton Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler

  • Replacement Coupler for Harbor Freight Trailer with 2-1/2 inch Wide Tongue
Do you mean a coupler? Are you looking for the portion of the trailer that attaches to the hitch ball? Typically smaller Harbor Freight trailers have 2-1/2 inch tongues for mounting a coupler. The Fulton coupler part # F222500301 is designed to fit 2-1/2 inch wide channel and also is designed for 2 inch hitch balls.

  • Dimensions and Weight Capacity of the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler # DL13847
The Fulton Trailer Coupler, # F222500301, fits on a 2-1/2 inch square channel. So it will be 3/4 of an inch too tall. But since couplers have mounting holes on the top and sides, you could use the top holes if the tongue on the log splitter has matching mounting holes. Something like the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler, # DL13847, might be more forgiving in terms of mounting than the Master Lock. I went out to the warehouse to measure the DL13847. The mounting holes on this coupler measure...

  • Availability of Trailer Coupler to Fit 2-1/2 inch Channel for 2 inch Coupler Ball
We have the Fulton Coupler part # F222500301 which fits a 2-1/2 inch channel and a 2 inch hitch ball like you said you need. It doesn't have the same bolt pattern as what your current coupler has though so you may have to redrill a hole or have it welded.

  • Ball and Coupler Recommendation for a Trailer with 2-1/2 inch Channel
One idea would be for you to install the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler # DL13847 that you referenced since it will match the 2.5 inch channel. Once you get a 1-7/8 inch ball for your ball mount and you should be ready to go. I attached a page that has all of the 1-7/8 inch balls we offer and an FAQ page on hitch balls for you to check out. Another option you have is to install a Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler # F222500301 by having it welded on. That way you would have a coupler that will work...

  • Will 3 Inch Channel Coupler Work With 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Tongue?
The Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler - Zinc - 2" Ball - 3" Channel - Bolt On - 10,000 lbs # DM12717 will not work on a 2-1/2 inch tongue. Instead I recommend the Fulton Fas-Lok Coupler, 2" Ball, 2-1/2" Channel - 3,500 lbs # F222500301 or etrailer option # CT-3002-Z. Either of these options will fit your tongue and will work with the 2 inch hitch ball. The weight capacity is significantly less with the couplers that fit 2-1/2 inch tongues so please note that difference.

  • Will Bolt Pattern on Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler # DL13847 Match Fulton Coupler on Boat Trailer
Yes, the mounting holes on the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler, part # DL13847, will be in the same location as the mounting holes on the Fulton Trailer Coupler, part # F222500301. As long as the tongue has not been modified the mounting holes are all at the industry standard of 3 inches, center to center, and the distance from the top of the channel to the center of the mounting holes will be the same on all of the bolt-on couplers.

We offer 3 trailer couplers that will fit a 2-1/2 inch channel and work with a 2 inch ball, but none have the mounting bolt spacing of 4 inches.
