Video Transcript for Review of Titan Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler - Standard Coupler - T4845000

Today we're taking a look at the Titan Zinc Plated Lever Lock Coupler. Now this unit mounts to your trailer and allows you to connect your trailer to your tow vehicle. The lever lock coupling mechanism ensures easy, secure connection to a two inch hitch ball.So basically when you're ready to use it, what you'll need to do is you'll need to remove the included pin, it's tethered on there so you don't misplace it or lose it. That can be replaced with a locking pin if desired. But then you slide this ball, it's like a half ball right here, you put your finger on the finger indention area, slide it over and then lift up the lever. Now that fully opens the coupler to receive a two inch ball. Once the ball engages, it will push back down that lever, it will click into place. That audible click lets you know that it's fully engaged and you're ready to reinstall your pin and get on the road. Now the unit itself is made from a durable steel construction with zinc plating to resist rust and corrosion, it's a bolt on installation, two mount holes on each side of the unit. Parts are made in the U.S.A.

Again, it's designed for a two inch ball. The space right here, inside edge to inside edge measures about three inches so that lets us know this is for a three inch wide channel tongue. The bolt holes on the unit, these are separated apart from one another on center by three inches and they have a half inch diameter. Mounting hardware not included. All your capacities are engraved right here on the top. So, this unit features a 5,000 pound gross load capacity, 750 pound tongue weight capacity. Then when it comes to the overall length of the unit measuring from the very front to the very back you can see it measures about 11 inches long. That's going to do it for today's look at the Titan Zinc Plated Lever Lock Coupler.

Creates a locking challenge. Needs a special lock. The open slide is not smooth and sometimes hard to work. The coupling is a challenge on any slope. Sometimes we need to drag the trailer to a flatter spot to get it to engage.

Exactly the part it says it is. Working well for me.

PRO: Arrived well packaged and undamaged. Good tight fit on the 2" ball. CON: I was replacing an older Titan coupler. The new coupler's bolt holes did not match the old coupler's hole pattern - off by 1/32" to 1/8", so the bolts will not fit thru the matching holes in the trailer. Rather than a 15 minute replacement, I now have to drill out the trailer bolt holes to make the new coupler fit, meaning that I will not have the close tolerance bolt-to-hole fit. This looser fit can ultimately cause wear on the bolts. I now plan to put in a bolt replacement maintenance exam/replacement reminder every year (to be safe).

I have two different vehicles with two different hitch ball diameters. I purchased this coupler to allow me hassle free use of either vehicle with the trailer equipped with the coupler. The couple is a very clever design and should allow me the flexibility that I was looking for. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it looks great and I am considering putting them on all of my smaller trailers.

Only place I'll shop. Outstanding service and delivery.

- T4845000

This coupler worked out great for my trailer tongue. I like the type of mechanism that is used to connect to the trailer ball. The old trailer coupler has been very problematic when I tried to make a connection.

- T4845000
by:

Works perfectly. Bolted on easily.

- T4845000
by:

Awesome coupler. Solid contact with the ball, super low profile, easy to use latch , this is exactly what I wanted as I run a bike rack above the coupler, plenty of clearance for unhitching the trailer without removing the rack.

Product is exactly what I ordered and it came within two days. Will definitely buy from etrailer again.

  • Why Would There be Rattle Between Trailer Coupler and Hitch Ball
If your current coupler is loose enough that it rattles when connected to a hitch ball it is in need of adjustment or replacement. There should be a nut on the underside of the coupler that holds the latch in place. You would want to tighten that down so that the latch fits tighter to the hitch ball. The Titan Coupler part # T4845000 would also be a great replacement as long as your trailer frame is built on 3 inch channel. This coupler is also made in the USA.

  • Converting Trailer with A-60 Surge Coupler to Electric Brakes
The Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Coupler # T4845000 that you referenced is designed to fit on a trailer tongue that measures 3 inches wide. If you measure the width of the insert portion of your surge coupler and it's 3 inches wide this will easily fit in place of it. The other option is to fuse the coupler you have now. You basically could run long bolts through the outer and inner sections of your current surge coupler and you would have turned it into a fixed coupler. I also attached...

  • Mounting Bolt Holes of Titan Coupler
You can absolutely use the holes on the top of the Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Coupler # T4845000 as holes to bolt on the coupler; in fact that is their exact purpose. I'm not sure which video you were watching specifically, but this is not a weld-on coupler due to its zinc plating which can be more difficult to weld. I have added a link to a video review of this coupler or you to check out.

You can get the Titan Zinc-Plated, Leverlock Coupler # T4845000 to fit your 2-1/2 inch x 2-1/2 inch square tube, although there is not an adapter sleeve. Instead, you will need to have spacers welded onto the tongue in order to use this coupler. This is going to ensure the strongest connection of coupler and trailer. • Recommended 50-MM Couplers For Straight Trailer Tongue

For a coupler that uses a handwheel to tighten the coupler around a hitch ball I recommend part # T2343400183. This coupler will also work with 1-7/8 inch, 2-inch and 50-mm balls, and is a bolt-on installation with a 5,000-lb capacity.

I spoke with my contact at Titan, and he said that your Zinc-Plated Coupler # T2343400183 with the handwheel and the Titan Leverlock Coupler # T4845000 are manufactured differently, so the mechanisms are not interchangeable. • Can Yoke-Style Trailer Coupler be Adjusted for Better Connection to Hitch Ball
I took a look at our yoke-style coupler # CA-5210-B and there doesn't seem to be any type of adjustments that can be made for the coupler to sit more snug on the hitch ball. I would check to make sure that your coupler is cleaned out and free from debris and that you're using the correct hitch ball size for your coupler. For example, there is a 1-7/8" hitch ball and a 2" hitch ball. You wouldn't think that a 1/8" would make that much of a difference but it does.
