Tire size on sidewall

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)

Video Transcript for Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, Part Number PW20286. These cable chains are designed to fit tires from 15 all the way up to 20 inches and offer a 35 mile an hour maximum speed. These chains are great for occasional use. They've got a sturdy steel wire construction around the outside, as well as on the cross cables. They've got hardened springs that cover the cross cable. It's going to provide that traction we need.

They'll move freely back and forth and really get embedded there, so we can get good grip on that ice and snow. They've designed it with a nice, low, profile design to help keep and maintain a smooth ride. Also, these are going to work great on both front wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles. The ladder design on these chains is going to meet all Department of Transportation requirements in all states. We're here on the passenger side of the vehicle. We spread our chain out here, just to make sure we don't have any kinks or any tangles that we need to work out before we get started. We're working with a tire size of 275-55R20, but again, many different sizes available with these Glacier chains, so you'll have a wide variety of sizes that these are going to fit. The first thing you want to look for is the is yellow, triangle shape tag.

This is going to say right hand side, or left hand side, and give you the indication of which way the tires should be rotating. That arrow will be facing towards the front of the car. We'll now move that arrow and that yellow tag down, around to the front side of our tire there. We'll want the first rung of our ladder to be tucked nicely right underneath the front side of our wheel, there. Give it as much slack as it needs. Get it tucked in there, just like that.

When we roll forward, we'll be able to gather that up right along the rear here. Maybe up here in the top somewhere, so we can get it connected. We'll now pull back and get as much slack as we can out of the front side of our chains, here. Then we can bring our rear up. On the back side here on the rear, we'll bring the cable right through that, and we'll have to rotate up right into that catch point. We'll then bring our rest of our slack out here to the front side. Just like on the rear side there, we've got another catch here.

We'll want to choose one of the mounting locations here. We've got 7 to pick from. On the rear, we use the second. That means those here on the front, we need to use the first, the second, or the third. Once we have that in place and in that set location, we'll use the large lever. Take up some of that slack. See if you can't get that last one. There we go. We'll pull that down. That's going to give us all the tension we'll need. The leverage is designed to come down and hook on to the cable. Depending on where you'll be positioning your cable, your tag end may be a little bit longer. They've got two nice catches designed right in here. You can simply clip it into there and hold it. Keep it from flopping around on you. WE've got our rubber adjuster, here. This is Part Number PW99. It's got 5 hooks on it. We're just going to find 5 locations around our cable chain, here. We're going to hook these in all the way around, 5 different locations facing out away from our sidewall. We don't want to run any risks of getting them up there and having any damage occur. You just want to put some tension on there to stiffen that up a little bit. We're going to drive forward a few car lengths. We'll double check it just to be sure we don't have any extra slack in there that we need to get out or any issues to deal with. With our chain secure, that's going to complete today's look at the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, Part Number PW2028C. .

Product looks well made and installation is easy... I think is the easiest to install chains I have owned. So why 2 stars?? The chains came without rubber adjusters... and you need them. I installed the chains in my wife SUV, following the instructions provided in the video and after driving 400 feet the chains went off. I decided not to install them again and ordered the rubber adjusters but honestly, those should be included with the set. If you decide to go for this brand/model, order the adjusters or you will have to stop every few yards to reinstall. Glacier should include them.. is $ us more to the price of the chains.. If those are not included means adjusters are not needed but they are. I will update the review once I receive the adjusters and use the chains again.

I ordered these chains for my RV , with just days before our trip. Knowing we are heading into the mountains and could get stuck in snow- they are important. I called first, confirmed they had them in stock. Then, I explained it was Monday , and I have to have them by Friday! The operator assured me they should arrive by Friday. I ordered on line. Got a written confirmation they had been shipped, and even a response to my email and inquiry by a real person! the chains arrived on Thursday! That, my friends, is great service from etrailer. I am happy

Unfortunately, the product I bought was out of China at a very expensive price. Had I known they were made in China, I would not have bought them at any price.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

I had purchased these in preparation for another New England winter. I had the chance to use them the other day with poor road conditions consisting of ice and snow. I fitted the chains on just fine, and secured them with a pair of rubber adjusters. The first few miles seemed fine for driving, just slightly bumpy, but was expecting it. Around mile 5 I hit the pavement and the right wheel chains just snapped. Pulled over and saw my wheel well torn up. Unless I somehow attached them wrong, these are not the quality I was lead to believe.

Tire cables are the most economical option for a tire traction device and are typically best for occasion use. For an upgraded tire chain for your Priuss 17565-15 tires without breaking the bank, I recommend the Pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # PWRS64
pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - 1 Pair
because they are easy to install and feature a square, alloy steel chain for better traction.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

I ordered the snow cables for my Subaru 2018 Outback and received them in 3 days! Your customer service is outstanding! I reordered a second set and received them in 4 days. I just had a chance to use them in Atlanta when we had ice and snow. I used only one set on the front and they worked perfectly. i watched the etrailer installation video for a Subaru and it made the easy to install. It took me less then 5 minutes in my garage. (Outside in the snow and ice might take longer). I drove around Atlanta in the ice and snow and the cables performed flawlessly. I plan to buy a set for my daughter. Thanks again!

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

Great product! I was worried the cables will scratch the alloy wheels on my 2011 MB E350 (it is the Sport model with low profile tires), but all works very well! I just used them last week at Tahoe, and they performed perfectly! Make sure to tighten the cables all the way up, on the last metal stud.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

So far, everything has been great. The website was easy, well set up and full of options for my Sienna AWD. Very competitive pricing. I had to buy 4 and the rubber multi-arm adjusters are beefy! We are planning a road trip for spring breaker and will headed over several passes and just want piece of mind with the young family. This has done that and for under $xx.xx! Thank you

A year out and what a crazy one!!! With COVID, spring break trip never happen. I have used the chains one up at the local XC skiing road closure. There was a noticeable change in traction control and I have 3 season rubber.

Great product. Did a dry run in preparation for a trip up to Yosemite in the winter. I purchased these w/ the Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster (TCMA2) and it fit great on my 2017 Toyota Sienna SE (P235/50R19). The installation video on etrailer.com was VERY helpful.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

The chains arrived sooner than expected and were easy to install on my 2015 Subaru Forester. Because of the clearance between tire and wheelwell this chain was recommended. The video, which shows them being installed on a 2015 Subaru Foresters rear wheels, contradicts the owners manual which tells you to install them on the front wheels. The price was very reasonable. The multi arm adjusters I feel are a necessity and should be included with the chains at an additional cost. Finally, I have not tried them out yet but am confident they will give me additional traction in snow. erailer is a very reputable company and I highly recommend them.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

Easy to figure out what size tire chain I needed for my 2019 Subaru Outback- like our previous Outback, chains will likely live in the bag and never be used but it is good insurance on the very rare days when there is something 4wd can't handle. Ordered online, got immediate information on shipping date and they showed up on schedule and as ordered. Have used this brand of chain and this company before- everything worked great.

Chains lived in the bag all winter since Subaru handled the snow we got with no problems. Still happyabout my purchase and service from etrailer

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

I couldn't get my motor home back from repair because of deep snow so looked around for chains and settled on these cable chains. If it wasn't for the -25 wind chill making my fingers numb installing would have been easy. The only problem was one lever lock wouldn't stay closed. I can cure that but hope to never use them again. Great product!

Good news. The order arrived on the 6th day. To be sure they fit I did a test installation. I installed the Glacier PW1038 snow cable/chains on our 2016 Subaru Forester (225 -60R-17). The chains fit perfectly and on the 2nd notch. (See attached pix). nice fit: away from the rim and other body parts. The PW105s also helped greatly to snug the package. Cris T

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

I have purchased these cable chains for the 2nd time and I am so happy that they came in just in time. The 1st set I bought was used so much this season that I did use them on dry pavement and then on snow and ice. We were going through so many storms every 2 days and some days I didn't take them off like it was advised to. I knew the 1st set were getting warn down quickly so I ordered another set. Well 1 by 1 the chain links started to snap, I am so happy that when they snaped I heard a sound and pulled over and just cut off the remaining part of the snaped one. Then I looked over where the chain snaped there was "no" damage to my car at all. Years ago I had chains and when the chain snaped it riped apart the side of my truck. These are made so if a chain link snapes there is no damage. These cable chains are the best ever, when you have a newer car or truck. Very with these cable chains and will buy another set when needed again. Very happy, Barry.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

This product replace my 12 years old snow track. The main side cables and x-cables/roller are twice as large in diameter. Much heavier but draped over the wheels with no problem. Installation is simple as described on your video. Fit is good. I am anxious to try idriving with it on snow and ice. But, I don’t drive when the weather is not permitting and the road is not clear. But, it is a good feeling to have a new snow chain with you instead of the old rusty and twisted one. The 5 arms tensioner are much better than my single loop. Just a couple of cons: 1. The latch on the outside cable connectors are difficult to lock and unlock in place. Plier to compress it to lock in position and flat head screw driver to open it from lock position are good help. 2. The red “S” clips that is right next to the connector assembly does not work. The cable is too stiff and the cable connector assembly gets in the way in securing excess cables from slapping around. Place the clip on the next link to secure. You will end up with an inch high bulge on the cable so make sure you have enough clearance inside the wheel well when the wheels is fully turned right and left. I have plenty of room so this is not and issue - I hope! “Much thanks to Carol C. who assisted me in ordering the parts. Your professionalism and product knowledge made my life easy.” Stay WARM!

Works fine except on black ice, you have to really take it easy on the accelerator when accelerating from stop or coming out of a turn. This is understandable but I thought I try to see how far can I take it. It did better than the plastic strap. Noise level at 35mph is acceptable. Vibration is well absorbed by the suspension. Lastly, it also fits my 2003 Ford Ranger how about that.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

The cable chains fit my truck really well and are pretty simple to install. I purchased them for an upcoming trip up north for vacation. Not sure if I'll need them but don't want to be without them if I do. I'll prolly be giving 5 stars after I use them. The buying process and customer service and communication are great also.

Review from a similar Cable in Tire Chains

Glacier chains for my 2012 Tacoma went on easy. I haven't had the chance to actually use them in the snow yet, so I can't comment on their effectiveness or durability. My only complaint concerns the bag used to store them. It's way too small. I struggled to get them out of the bag the first time. It was almost as if the bag was constructed around the chains. Needless to say there was no way I was going to get them back in the bag. I store them in an old gym bag. As far as etrailer.com goes, 5 stars all the way. They want to make sure you are properly serviced.

I tried them on; and they fit well. I'll be ready for my subdivision's icy conditions next time. Thanks for the rapid service, and here are some photos from the test today; though you may not want to use the tension photo, because the clips should have been rotated to the next section

For your 2013 GMC Terrain, your owner's manual does state that you should not use tire chains on this vehicle, but it also states that a Type-S low profile cable can be used if recommended by the cable manufacturer. The decision to use tire chains can be confusing between what the manufacturer says and what the laws on chain uses in the state you are traveling through. the manufacture will state that if you use chains and something happens, they will not honor any warranties. You can use one tire chain on each side of your dual rear wheel van, however, I would recommend using chains on all 4 rear wheels, especially if you will be driving in areas with extreme weather. Both the Titan chains and the Glacier cables you mentioned, part # PW2019C, are Class S compatible, which means they're designed to be used when there isn't much clearance between the tires and the vehicle so they'll both fit. The reason I like the Titans so much more is becasue they're actually chains and not cables....
