Installation

Installation Step 1

1. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Installation Step 2

2. Connect the yellow and blue cable at the back of the tire.

Installation Step 3

3. Push the cable into place behind the tire and center the cross chains on the tire's tread. Then, on the front side of the tire, join the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook.

Installation Step 4

4. Feed the silver draw chain with the rubber tensioner through the red channel at the bottom and pull it tight. Then run the tensioner through the red rings. (Note: Depending on your tire size, you might not be able to thread through both rings.) Pull the tensioner across the tire and fasten it to the yellow chain on the opposite side.

Installation Step 5

5. Pull your vehicle forward and retighten the chain.

Class "S" Designation

SAE Class "S" tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require Class "S" chains.

SAE Class S Clearances

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

  • What Tire Chains Can I Use on My 2018 BMW X3 M40i With Tire Size 275/35 R21?
Hello Tom, For you 2018 BMW X3 with tire size 275/35 R21 you can use the Konig K-Summit Tire Chains # th02230k56. The # TH02230K66 that you were looking at are basically the same chains, just a little bigger than the # th02230k56. With your tire size, both will fit. Your BMW needs these kinds of chains because they are Class S compatible, meaning don't have the clearance behind the wheel to use the other chains you see on the street like # TC2335. The # th02230k56 are some of the easiest...

  • Recommended Tire Chains for 275/65-20 Tires
Hey Gary! The Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains item # TC2335 you were looking at are exactly what I would recommend for your F-350 with 275/65-20 tires. They have square links which are great for breaking up ice and grabbing traction in the snow. Plus, the diamond pattern gives a smoother ride quality. You can't beat the ease of installation for them either compared to other brands. Additionally, the item # TC2335 are Class S compatible so you won't have to worry about damaging suspension...

  • Recommended Tire Chains For Mud and Snow In Colorado
I have another option but the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2533 you were looking at will not be the best option for mud due to the use of cams that often come loose when driving on harsh terrain or mud, which is why they are listed as on road only. The option I recommend is the Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains for Wide Base and Dual Tires # TC3229 which has a manual adjustment that does not use cam's that often come loose while driving on harsh terrain and is rated for on and off...

  • Option For Class S Compatible Snow Tire Chains for 275/65R20 Tires
Hi Luke, I would love to give you multiple options, but there is only one snow tire chain that is Class S compatible and fits your 275/65R20 tires: - Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2335 These don't have rim protection nor automatic tensioning - just assisted with their built-in tensioners - but I did at least want to give you the option available should you need the chains. I also recommend adjusters to ensure the chains are always snug, the Rubber Adjusters # TCMA2.

  • Tire Chain Fit For 285/75R17 Tires on Jeep Wrangler
The # TC3229SCAM physically fit 285/75R17 tires, but I took a glance at the owners manual of your Jeep Wrangler and it states that traction devices shouldn't be used on tires your size (actually tires even smaller than yours), so I would avoid these chains. Since you have to have them by law I highly recommend Class S chains which require limited clearance (a minimum of 1.46" between the top of the tire tread and wheel well, and at least 0.59" between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle...

  • Class S rated Tire Chains for a 2021 Ram 2500 with 285/60-20 Tires
It looks like at one point the Konig Tire Chains # KON64FR were listed as Class S Compatible, but we received and update that this is not the case and we are in the process of updating our site. For similar Class S chains that fit the 285/60-20 tires on your 2021 Ram 2500 you'll need the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2335. The Konig brand is more of a high-end brand while the Titan Chain is your mid-tier brand so these aren't the same quality but they will still get the job done...

  • Low Clearance Tire Chains for 305/45-22 Tire Size of 2016 GMC Yukon XL
For your tire size of 305/45-22 we don't have any cables but we do have great chain options like the Titan chains part # TC2335 which is lower clearance like cables are. These are a great lower priced option that will installs relatively easily and provide much better traction than cables. If you wanted something with superior traction and will last much longer the Konig set part # KON64FR would work great and is also low clearance. For the ultimate in low clearance the K-Summit chains...

  • Recommended Class S Snow Tire Chains for 2014 Ford F-350

  • What Tire Chains do You Recommend for My 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 with 275/65-20 Tires?
Thanks so much for including a picture of your 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 HD owner's manual. This recommendation is actually quite common. The reason why manufacturers include these warnings is because they want to "wash their hands" of any liability if there is damage that results from using the tire chains on your 275/65-20 tires. However, even with that being said, there are ways that you can safely check to make sure that you have the correct clearance required to safely use tire chains....

  • Will Titan TC2539 Square Link Snow Chain Fit Both 325/60-20 and 35/12.5-20 Tires
According to my contact at Titan Chain, their # TC2539 won't be quite large enough to fit your 35x12.5x20 tires, although they'll fit your 325/60-20 tires just fine. For the # 35x12.5x20 tires, you'd want to use an identical set that's just a bit larger, part # TC2335. I'll link to a demonstration video that you might find helpful. When you receive your chains, if you're not familiar with the installation process it's recommended that you do a dry run in the safety of your driveway...

  • Will the DISCONTINUED Glacier V-Trac Cable Snow Tire Chains PW2114V fit a 275/65-20 Tire Size
What really matters when determining whether or not a set of tire chains will fit a wheel is the overall diameter of the tire. The rim size doesn't really matter that much since the tires that can fit that rim can be of various sizes. The DISCONTINUED Glacier V-Trac Cable Snow Tire Chains PW2114V that you referenced would have fit a 275/65-20 tire size. From the chains available I recommend the Titan # TC2335 chains.
