Installation

1. Drape the chain over both tires of your dual-tire set-up, making sure that the center chain is between the tires and that the side chain with the lever is on the outside. Drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)

2. Reach around behind the tires and fasten the ends of the chain together.

3. Move back to the front of the tires and fasten the ends of the chain together using the built-in lever.

4. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed by moving the hook to the next link.

You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)

Video Transcript for Titan Chain Twist Link Tire Chains for Dual Tires Installation - 2022 Ram 3500

Hi, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Titan Chains snow tire chains that are twist link and made for your dual tires right here on our 2022 Ram 3500. So, your options for dual tire chains are kind of limited, especially since you want them designed to protect all of your axle, so that's both tires on both sides. But these are designed for that with those three connections. Now, this is gonna be a twist link tire chain, which means it's great for your deep snow as well as for your mud.

If you need more traction on extreme ice though, then you may wanna consider either square link tire chains or twist link with the V-bars because those bite into the ice. But for extreme weather conditions where you think you're gonna have a lot of snow, this might be a great option for you. So, these are heavy-duty tire chains made of a low-carbon steel. And what that means is some people use manganese nickel alloy for their tire chains and that is more corrosion resistant. Low-carbon steel tire chains though are a lot more durable and a lot more sturdy.

Great for those extreme off-road situations, or you're hitting ice, you're hitting rocks and gravel, things like that. Now, because it's made of low-carbon steel and not as corrosion resistant as those other alloys, if you are using this for multiple seasons, please just double check your chains before you put them on your tires to make sure they're still good to go. The links themselves are arranged in a twist link pattern. So, you actually will have a slightly smoother ride compared to if you have the V-bar links. This will also help with that snow and with that mud while still providing decent traction for icy situations.

So, the tire size these are installed on are 235/80R17. If you're not sure what your tire size is, just double check it over there on your side wall. Knowing that number is pretty important because then you can use it here etrailer.com to put your year, make and model. And then select your specific tire size and that will get you the best fit for you. These chains arrive in a canvas bag like this.

You are going to get two of these bags because you have dually tires. And this is technically reusable. You can put the chains back in. I do recommend using a rubber band or a zip tie to tighten it down. Some other tire chains come in hard shell or soft shell cases which I prefer, but this is still a great way to carry your chains in your truck for those times when you need them. Now, there is a version of this which has cam buckle tighteners and I actually recommend those, not just because they give you that extra tension right off the bat, but also because the tool will be helpful for installing these tire chains. Installing tire chains on dually tires are a little bit of a struggle because there's more chains, you have to wrap it around more, and you have to make more connections. But still very important if you want that extra traction. Now I have some special tips and tricks that I use to make it easier for me. That way, I don't have to drive the truck back and forth. That might be a helpful process for you. Let's take a look at that. So, when you get your chains, I highly recommend just laying them out in your garage floor. Just double checking if everything looks good, you have the correct number of chains, it matches your tires, and to get familiar with how to install them before you're stranded by the side of the road. Now, make sure it's facing the right way. And to know that, you need to make sure that the hook is facing up and away from your tire, and then the flat part is on your tire. Once everything looks good and it's all lined up, now you gotta put this on your tires. So, these are kind of heavy chains and you wanna make sure this middle part is in between the two tires. Now, that we have it as evenly balanced as we can get it onto our tires, we're now going to make three connections. So, one and two are gonna be your front and your rear. And then you have a third connection in the middle, which is going to go between your tires and that's gonna be the most difficult part. What you can do is you can make those connections, roll forward, connect the third. Or do what I do, which is I use the cam tightener tool and I connect one link onto the tool, and then just slide this through the tire to grab onto the other side. So, what I do is I put the link that needs to be connected right over your cam tensioner and use this to feed it through your tires. So, using the tool, just pull the chains through and then you can connect the other hook. So, in the back, you're gonna have this lever, which goes through the chain and you wanna get as tight of a fit as possible. I'm gonna bring this through our second or our third link and then turn it and try to get that tension in there as I secure the lever. And here in the front, we're gonna do the exact same thing and you'll be able to see it a little bit better this way. Bring your lever in from the back using the second link and then twist it in order to tighten it. Then you'll have that extra link on the side to secure that lever. So, just like that, we have a nice and secure fit. But what I also like to do is use these rubber tensioners to add some extra security because as you drive around and you hit ice and rocks, your chains will move around. So, if you have rubber tensioners, it will move around with your chains, giving you constant tension. So, that's how you install your rubber tensioner. Do this exact same process on the other side. I do recommend driving forward or backward a couple of feet and then just double checking that everything is still in place. If it is, then that's it for the install. You're good to go. And that was a look at the Titan Chains snow tire chains that are twist links and made for your dual tires right here on the 2022 Ram 3500..

2017 Dodge Ram Pickup

Application: 2017 Ram 3500 DRW. Road test: Hwy 50 from California near the Nevada line (into South Lake Tahoe); chains (or snow tires) required.

The chains worked great! It was snowing pretty good. I installed the chains on the side of the road prior to the "chains required" checkpoint. I had my headlamp prepared which was the key to an efficient install in low-light conditions. Naturally, manipulating the chains during install was twice the fun! But with some good gloves, a headlamp, and 3 slight repositions of the truck, they came on and were readjusted in about 30 min. I thought that was pretty good time considering the conditions and being safe around the other vehicle traffic.

The truck handled great. I capped my speeds at 30MPH, which did not happen that much given the few straightaways in that particular stretch of road. After a few miles the chains seemed to really settle in and my ride was pretty smooth. No excessive noise.

I found an awesome parking lot to remove the chains in South Lake Tahoe before getting into Nevada. (I probably could have kept them on through the city and on downgrade into Nevada, but it all worked out.) The lighting helped a LOT. However, it still took me about 25 min to remove the chains because I had trouble unlocking the inside tire on one side. Be ready to crawl and spend some time underneath your truck. The clearance underneath the Ram 3500 was plenty to get in there and sift through the chain to find the lever lock.

Sorry - no pictures. As soon as I had them off, it dawned on me I never took any pictures. If chains are required next time I make that run, I will try to remember to snap a few. Overall - they're good chains. Durable, and provided great traction if you want to run double chains on your dually. Remember good gloves and a headlamp, and make it an adventure not a chore.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I know iron. 17 yrs trucking, mostly doubles across Montana into the Dakotas. Chained up a lot.
Pictures show what you get with this set I bought for my 2005 Tahoe. Heavy gauge chains w/triple cam locks w/long wrench for excellent leverage to get cams tight. Tight cams mean links don't "slap" pavement which causes increased wear. They arrived today so not used yet. However, for my application they will last a lot longer than those cheaper; light gauge, "disposable" chains, use once and throw away after you pay a tow bill.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

Needed these chains for a snowboarding trio this December. Installed them in my yard to make sure they fit, and figure out which link worked best. Now that i know what link to use, next time it should only take sbout 10 min to put them on. I really like how they stay away from my wheels so should not scrstch them. My yard was very soft from recent rain and you can see how well the chains dig into the mud. Should be really good on snow/ice.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I used these on a 2wd open diff F150 with a camper. The traction difference is amazing! I never lost traction! If you’re on a pass that warns “chains or AWD”, don’t go without chains or off road tires. I puttered along at 30 in the unplowed lane watching a clown in an AWD BMW slide everywhere in the plowed slush, holding up traffic.
Anyway, the chains themselves. I’ve used diamond pattern chains with a cable on the inside and fancy nonsense on the outside before. The cable always collects snow, and the multiple connections on the outside is confusing. These ladder chains were easy and simple to put on and take off. I used tensioner bungees also. You will get a bumpy ride, but it smooths out as you speed up. Anyone that claims ladder chains don’t have lateral grip hasn’t used them and doesn’t understand the physics of why chains help.
Great for going up a pass periodically, but not something I’d use daily.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I've had very positive experience with this company. Last winter I ordered cable-chains from another provider. They weren't up to the task I needed and one set broke pretty quickly. I then ordered a single set (two tires) of chains from etailer to replace the cable-chain that snapped. The purchasing process was seamless, they arrived quickly and they were of very high quality. They took me through the rest of a challenging winter season.

With another winter now approaching, I just ordered a 2nd set so I can install them on all four tires. I won't bother to try to use the cable-chains.

Good company, good product.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

I used it 1 time for roughly 15 miles on I70 in Colorado when required by law and found I had several links broken. I called etrailer about this and they said there was nothing they could do because they sat in my toolbox to long and were out of any warranty timeline.

Comments
These chains do have a 30-day limited warranty time frame. Breakage can happen with the chains if they hit bare pavement or if driven over 25 mph while installed. If you hear or feel anything off like a chain hitting your vehicle, for instance, immediately pull over and address the issue. Also avoid sudden starts and stops, which can cause your wheels to spin or lock up.

Review from a similar Twist Link Ladder in Tire Chains

We had previously purchased chains from etrailer that worked great, but we upsized the wheels/tires of the plow truck and needed larger chains. So we bought these chains and used them to enlarge the four previous chains. The new ones did exactly what we wanted them to do! I have always had great success ordering from etrailer and highly recommend your company. Great service and great value!!

Chains don't fit on 245/75/17 like the part details claims!! I had to cut 1 cross section and 6 links on the longer ends for them to fit!

Comments
This product fits tire sizes between 15 to 22 inches. Once you fasten the end of the chains together and use the cams to tighten, you drive forward a little bit then keep tightening the cams as needed. They will still fit a little loose but the good news is that you can get chain adjusters like item # TCMA2

to make it a tighter fit.

They look to be some pretty durable chains. Bummer they didn’t come with the reusable canvas bags, but that’s not really make-it or break it for me. I can find a box at [online] to fit in my truck. Fast shipping time too!

Bought for 2015 Honda Fit which I often take places it wasn't meant to go. Shipped and arrived very fast. As advertised. Neatly packed in plastic box easy to store in car. Instructions in box for those of us who don't regularly use chains. Happy with company and product.

Delivered fast, popped these on to get gamiliare with them and actyally tested them out on a road that was snow packed solid ice, my truck would not spin... i tried to make it, but the chains would not allow it in my situation. Yes chains ride rough.. real rough to be honest, but its better than not making it to your destination. They are heavy ( a big pro) feel like excellent quality and would recommend them to anyone who lives in a state that allows them.

Comments
I have only used them twice since i bought these, how ever they have held up great in storage, not a single spot of rust, or anything. They are still in brand new condition

Didn't get to use the product as the expected delivery date was wrong. The company shipped the item later than required and then wanted to charge me to correct their mistake (ship them back). Expectations were set and not met. Had to buy new chains. I would have paid extra for expedited shipping if I would have known this.

I understand that you are disappointed. Our site gives an estimated delivery date however it is not a guaranteed delivery date. For a guaranteed delivery date you will want to choose the shipping option that deliver in the time frame you need it by.

Good chains, but were a bit too long for my 2017 Lexus GX, so a few links of chain had to be cut with a bolt cutter. Even with the chain cut, there is a little extra length that needs to be tied up so that it isn’t clunking as you drive. I’ve had plenty of experience installing chains (both cable and regular) and these were the most difficult ones I’ve ever put on. Hopefully this gets a bit easier with practice!

  • Snow Tire Chains Recommendation For 2001 Dodge Ram Dually
The tire cables you asked about, part # TC4041, are not designed to fit the tires you said you need them for, but we do have chains that will work great. It looks like you have dual tires so I recommend part # TC4221. These are a ladder pattern twist link tire chain and have less jarring than square link chains of a similar size. Since you said you travel quite a distance on roads that can be covered with snow or ice or both, you may want to go with bigger tire chains like part # TC4221CAM....
