The JackRabbit retractable hard tonneau cover with Explorer Series rails lets you add a ladder rack or roof rack to carry cargo above your bed without interrupting the cover's function. Its durable ArmorTek construction consists of a vinyl fabric top sheet that is bonded to rigid aluminum panels, combining the seamless appearance of a soft tonneau with the security features of a hard tonneau. The stylish cover locks at any point along the rails, and it retracts easily with the turn of a handle.

Retractable Cover with Built-In Pull Strap

Handle on key latch opens cover

The original JackRabbit retracts with the turn of a handle. The handle - located on the key latch at the tailgate end of the cover - activates a heavy-duty tension spring. This spring automatically retracts the cover into the canister at the bulkhead of your truck bed. A built-in pull strap helps you extend the cover over your bed. As you pull, the tonneau will engage the side rails at 12" intervals. You can stop the cover at these designated intervals or you can use the key latch to lock the cover at any point along the side rails.

Hauling flexibility for partial loads

This feature enables you to carry tall or long items that overlap your tailgate while still covering cargo, such as a toolbox, stored closer to the bulkhead of the truck.

A hook-and-loop fastener strip is included to secure the pull strap up and off of your bed floor. You can also use the rear plate of the tonneau cover to pull it closed.

Explorer Series Rails

Explorer Series Rails for Pace Edwards

The Explorer Series rails include T-slots that allow you to mount accessories directly to the cover. This enables you to install a ladder rack or roof rack on the rails and carry cargo above the bed without interfering with the operation of the cover. The T-slots also run the length of the side rails so you can position your ladder rack or roof rack as needed to accommodate different sized loads. The rails are compatible with Pace Edwards Utility Rig and Contractor Rig ladder racks (sold separately).

Angled Canister

Angled Canister

The cover retracts into a compact, angled canister located at the front of your truck bed. This canister protects the retracted cover from the elements, and with the cover stored in the canister you'll have unrestricted visibility out of your rear window. The angled design of the canister also allows for maximum clearance for your tools and cargo so there is no need to remove the cover to haul cargo.

Water Management System

The JackRabbit rails feature a water management system that channels excess water into the canister. This prevents water from getting into your bed or freezing in your tonneau cover rails during cold temperatures. Drain tubes attached to the bottom of the canister remove water through the OE drain holes in the floor of your truck bed.

Flush-Mount Design

Low profile tonneau cover

The black powder-coated side rails mount level with your truck bed rails for a flush appearance. This flush-mount design is aerodynamic to reduce wind drag, and it helps to improve gas mileage when the cover is closed.

Cover allows for fifth wheel towing

Even with the flush-mount design, the cover fits over most fifth-wheel trailer hitches. Note: The highest point of the fifth-wheel hitch must be at least 2" below the bed rails.

Stylish and Heavy-Duty Construction

Vinyl and aluminum construction

The JackRabbit deck is constructed of a vinyl top layer bonded to heavy-duty aluminum slats. This ArmorTek deck looks like a soft tonneau cover with no visible seams, but has the strength and security of a hard tonneau cover. A large seal at the rear of the bed closes the gap between the cover and tailgate to create a barrier to prevent water from entering the truck bed.

Security

The original Jackrabbit provides excellent protection for your cargo when used in conjunction with a closed and locked tailgate. The heavy-gauge aluminum panels are better at preventing theft when compared with soft covers that can be cut or punctured with a knife. The panels are also more effective at preventing theft than tri-fold hard tonneau covers because the panels cannot be pried open at any point along the rails.

No-Drill Installation

To install the cover, set the canister in your truck bed and support it with a box or other sturdy object. Slide the cover side rails into the canister until they are fully seated in the rail grips while also threading the cover into the channels in the rails. Secure the rails to the canister with bolts and washers.

Secure the rails to your truck bed side rails using 2 clamps per side. Slide the clamp onto the rail, flip the pivot arm up so it is under the bed rail lip, and tighten the clamp in place. Shims are included for trucks with tapered beds.

Kickstand for Pace Edwards cover

Each clamp at the tailgate end of the rails has a supplemental kickstand to help level the rails and prevent overtightening during installation. To install the kickstand, simply slide it into the grip handle at the bottom of the clamp. Rotate the kickstand so the foot rests squarely against the side wall of the truck bed, and tighten in place.

Mount the top cover plate to the canister with the included hardware. Attach the drain tubes to the canister and route each tube out of the OEM drain holes in the floor of your bed.

To hold the pull strap off the floor of your truck bed, apply the adhesive hook-and-loop fastener strip onto the underside of a rail at your desired location.

Last year I replaced my old cover, and I have had no problems with it. I'm happy I bought it. It came in handy when I went on vacation and could lock my stuff in the bed. I felt safe I could leave my items in the truck knowing it was locked. The representative who helped me order the cover was fantastic.

5 stars for the product - Well thought out, high quality, functional, and good looking. Seems very secure. Weather resistance is to-be-determined but I'm confident that it will meet my requirement to keep stuff in the bed from getting soaked.

1 star for installation - I'm a jack-of-all trades and I've built a lot of stuff. This was the single most frustrating installation I have ever done. Around 8 hours spread over 4 evenings. I'm guessing Pace Edward hasn't tested their installation instructions recently. Instructions were outdated compared to the hardware that actually shipped. An amendment sheet, which attempted to reconcile the differences between the original instructions and the shipped hardware, was included. Ultimately those parts weren't even needed for my truck! Instructions say you'll need assembled clamp hardware, and you have to guess how to assemble them, only to find out that you need to install them without assembling all the way because otherwise they'll hit your truck when you slide them on! Aluminum clamp hardware tolerance was so tight that they wouldn't slide onto the rail without lubrication and a rubber mallet (which exacerbated the frustration since I attempted to slide them on only to realize that I needed to partially disassemble them); aluminum shim hardware was perfect and slid on effortlessly. Drain tube foam washer was too thick to allow the tube to clip to the cover box like it's designed to do. I had to use RTV silicone instead. Maybe I missed the memo but these covers will NOT fit your bed if you have a plastic factory bed liner. You will need to remove or cut the liner in a few places to make it fit. During the installation process I accidentally dislodged the weather seal that goes between the cover edge and your tailgate - HUGE pain to get that reconnected to the cover.

Despite the horrible installation experience, pending any issues I discover while using the cover, I would buy it again!

Had the cover for 1 year now. Paint finish is not holding up at all, chipping off like crazy. I do open it often, but have noticed the tracks get very dry and it’s hard to slide the cover open and closed. I do spray the tracks often to keep them lubricated. Drain tube connectors are very loose and don’t keep the water out like I would have hoped.

This is my second Jackrabbit. Used first on a Tundra. Current one for a '16 F250. Fit is nice and install is not difficult. Easy pull operation and frequent stops are appreciated. I think explorer rails are a must for more functionality

Got my Pace Edwards jackrabbit today. It makes a nice addition to my second gen Dodge ram. One of the track stops was on the wrong side of the stop inside the canister. Took a few hours to figure that out. Also I had to use a Dremel tool and a small, thin grinding wheel to enlarge the t-shaped grooves for the t-slot hold downs. Anyway, it works as advertised and I'm happy with my purchase
