Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - RM-751449

  • Stop Light Switch
  • Roadmaster

Avoid damage to your vehicle by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Specs:

  • Application: custom fit for your vehicle
  • 12 Volts

This kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

Works as it should, a little difficult to install (physically), but had to have it for my application, well made and quality parts.

No issues since installing, if I change vehicles I would buy this again.

@Gregory We're glad to hear the your Roadmaster # RM-751449 stop light switch is working well for you!

by:

instructions could have been better.

by:

Unit worked well, fit nicely. Was awkward for me to install because of location under dash, but bracket was designed well fit right up.

Really good.thank you!!

by:

Working like a champ! Install was a breeze with etrailer. Can't believe that I was on the road without a TOAD brake.

by:

Upon the recommendation of one of your towing specialists, I ordered every component that I needed to flat tow my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee behind my 2013 Newmar Bay Star motorhome. I got the necessary Roadmaster tow bar and other accessories plus the SMI Stay-IN-Play braking system. I have towed over 5000 miles so far without any significant issues. Hook up is straight-forward and takes about 15 minutes to complete. I couldn't be happier with the towing experience!

by:

Used it for the brake activation light in my towed vehicle. Easily adjustable as far as depth . Positioning took a little work but the bracket is specific to a vehicle other than mine.

by:

Instructions in the kit and video on the website were very complete and made for a very easy installation. Suggestion to Roadmaster on the bracket....make some sort of positive location tab for the bracket because the location is only made secure by the tightening of the bolt. Also, the way the Jeep bracket that you bolt to is designed, there's no way to get a wrench or socket to hold the backside bolt head. Maybe come up with something to keep it from spinning.

by:

Bracket came with one undersized bolt and nut. The bracket it attached to had two holes. If the bracket was longer and had another bolt it would be more stable.

I recommend looking at the video installation that we have on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee starting at mark 2:18. You can see the bracket location and that it uses a five sixteenth by three quarter inch bolt.

by:

All of the etrailer.com products I have purchased were perfect. The shipping was right on time. I have told several of my friends and acquaintances about etrailer.com.

by:

Exact items needed for 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee installation of alternative braking system.

by:

Great product. Works great. Installation was a little tricky for my Jeep Grand Cherokee but we figured it out.

by:

Instructions were clear making the installation relatively easy. Parts fit like they were supposed to.

by:

Nice switch, used this as an add on switch for brake controller for 2018 Jeep Compass

by:

Worked good

by:

A necessity for the towing application. It works perfectly.

doable but not easy

  • How to Connect Brake Controller to Cold Side of Brake Light Signal Aside from the Stop Light Switch
To accommodate your situation you would either need a stop light switch kit, like part # RM-751449, or simply connect the that specific wire from your brake controller to a 3rd brake light or any circuit that only gets hot when your brake pedal is pressed. A diode should not be used in this situation. The stop light switch kits are vehicle specific so it you could let me know what the year/make/model of your vehicle is I can see if we have one confirmed as a fit for your application.

  • Is A Stop Light Switch Kit Needed For A 2022 Jeep Cherokee
The brake light switch wire for the 2022 Jeep Cherokee isn't useable so you would need to install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751471 in order to get the braking signal. The Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751449 you referenced would only be compatible with select Jeep Grand Cherokee's so it wouldn't be a fit for your vehicle. I've attached a short video below where Ryan will walk you through the installation process.

  • Is a Brake Lite Relay Required for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Being Flat Towed
I understand, there is a lot of components to flat tow a vehicle and even from year to year model changes can make a big difference. You do not need a brake lite relay for the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Supplemental Braking System # RM-9400 on your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That's because when you put your Grand Cherokee into "tow mode" the brake pedal does not provide any power to the brake lights. A brake lite relay is used to not allow power to go through when towing, and allow...

  • Where Should The 12 Volt Wires Be Connected On A 7 Way To 6 Way Wire Connection?
I will start by saying I can find nowhere that says your 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee needs to have the battery disconnected in order to be flat towed. However, I did find a few things about people contacting the Jeep Product Information Center and them then saying that this was something they had originally said in the owner's manual, but is no longer needed for flat towing. With that being said, it is required that you use the Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751449 if you are going to be using...

  • Seat Adapter and Stop Light Switch Kit for BrakeMaster System on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
To use the Roadmaster BrakeMaster system # RM-9160 on your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, you will need the following items: Stop Light Switch kit, # RM-751449 Seat Adapter, # RM-88287 Because your Grand Cherokee has a combined lighting system (the brake lights and turn signals are on the same circuit) you should not need a brake light relay.

You were correct that your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a combined wiring system though you will still be able to use the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 without hurting your Jeep's electronics. If you take a look at the chart I've attached you can see that there are enough diodes provided to work without messing up your Jeep's electronics. Yes, you can use the InvisiBrake, # RM-8700, on your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In order for it to work properly you will need to have a wiring system that taps into the vehicle wiring like # RM-154 and you will need Stop Light Switch Kit, # RM-751449. The Grand Cherokee actually does not have an active stop light circuit so you will need to use the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit part # RM-751449. The Blue OX BX7365 has a 6,500lb weight capacity so you would most likely be more than fine using it and would be able to carry a bit of extra weight.
