2013 Dodge Ram Pickup - Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Wire to 6-Wire Straight Cord

  • Diode Kit
  • Splices into Vehicle Wiring
  • Universal
  • Tail Light Mount
  • Roadmaster

This complete kit includes everything you need to connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your towed car. Diodes prevent feedback and wire your car to operate as a combined system. Includes a 7-way to 6-way straight adapter cord.

Features:

  • Complete wiring kit lets you connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your towed vehicle's lighting system
    • Wires towed car as a combined lighting system so that brake and turn signals travel along same wire
  • Diodes prevent electrical feedback and the damage it can cause to your car's electrical components
  • 7-Wire to 6-wire adapter cord allows you to run power from your RV to your towed vehicle
    • Straight cord is ideal for all-terrain tow bars and other tow bars that have channel guides
  • 6-Way socket wires to harness and mounts on towed car with included bracket
  • Sturdy, durable construction
    • Powder-coated aluminum casings protect diodes from corrosion
    • Electrical cord resists water, oil and chemicals
    • Silicone-injected plugs prevent corrosion
  • Kit includes:
    • 4 Hy-Power diodes
    • Wiring harness
    • 7-Way to 6-way adapter cord
    • 6-Way socket with mounting bracket
    • Wire connectors
    • Cable ties
    • 1 Ring terminal
    • 3' Long plastic loom
  • Brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if used with supplemental braking system
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

Specs:

  • Maximum amperage: 85 amps
  • Maximum voltage: 24 volts
  • Adapter cord length: 6-1/2'
    • Wire gauge: 16
  • Wiring harness length: 30'

Note: For applications that have separate lighting, this kit will cause your brake lights to function as both brake and turn signal lights. A wiring converter (118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.

Separate vs. Combined Lighting Systems

Some automobiles operate on a 3-wire system, wherein the brake signal and the turn signals travel along different wires to illuminate different lights. (Typically, these vehicles have amber turn signals.) This is referred to as a "separate lighting system". When you hook up for flat towing using this kit, your towed car's lighting system will operate in a combined fashion regardless of whether it typically has combined or separate lighting. This means that the brake and turn signals sent by your RV to your towed car will be carried on a single wire. As a result, your car's brake lights will do the flashing for the turn signals. Your vehicle will still function as designed when not hooked up to your RV.

Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?

Because this kit wires your vehicle as a combined system, a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed car every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

Works as expected. Connection feels solid enough. Have not had the opportunity to take it on a long trip yet.

One thing bit us in the butt, forcing us to cancel a trip at the last minute (when testing that our towed vehicle's turn signals, brake lights and supplemental brake system was working before driving off!): the left-turn signal prong in the male part of the connector (that plugs into the towed vehicle) was not opened enough, so no steady connection was being made because there was no contact between the prong and the walls of the female part. This had worked in a previous test. Picture included. Make sure to use a flathead screwdriver to open each prong up so full contact is made!

2015 Jeep Wrangler

Over-all, the Roadmaster products were great! I watched all videos for install several times. I went through the Jeep frame-rail front-to-back. But I did not loop the wire kit up unto the engine compartment just to cut and splice for the supplemental brake system. I called etrailer and asked whether there was an issue bringing the supplemental wiring directly to 6-wire plug which seemed to be a new concept with no answer either way. This actually worked well and ended up as a cleaner install with fewer cuts/splices

I chose the order by phone option. The website is well organized, but, I had gone too long without hearing another person. I have received several orders from etrailer after purchasing an RV last summer. I knew we would be Purchasing a Toad.
I don’t have any experience with towing another vehicle, so I had plenty of help in finding the right equipment for me.
The delivery times were all easily tracked and arrived in good condition. As md on time.
I had the simple tools required to install the base plate and hitch. The videos available on their site are clear and easy to understand.
I have had a great overall experience with etrailer.

2019 GMC Acadia

Very straight forward install, easy to follow instructions. If you do this your self be prepared, the factory light wiring isn't very long or thick it was difficult to strip the wire back far enough to double it over to get a good connection. Upon completion of the wiring, I double checked all power at both plugs, it was all good, I installed the lights, brake and turnsignals worked great, I didn't have any running lights. About 3 min later they came on and stayed on. I don't believe this has any thing to do with the kit, this vehicle has all kinds of light sensors, darkness sensors, rain sensors.. etc. I believe it just too a min or 2 for the lights to actually come on.

Finally got my lights working properly after installing this product. Haven’t had any problems at all.

Works fine but I get a turn signal warning on my sprinter van. Everything works fine, I just have to clear the warning on the dash.

The wiring kit is not correct for a 2021 Tahoe but your website says it is a confirmed fit. Confirmed by whom? No way, no how that kit will work on a 2021 Tahoe. This fact calls into question the "confirmed fit" claims made on the rest of your website in my mind. Everything else on the order is fine.

Comments
We do take our fit guide information either directly from the manufacturer fit guide or from our own testing. There are times where a particular application will slip through. I sincerely apologize that this happened in your case. We are updating our site to reflect part # RO94FR

Had it installed by my RV Service guy, and it’s worked great for us in towing our Jeep Cherokee with the Roadmaster Falcon 2 towing system!

by:

The kit contained all I needed and their on line video for installation in a 2015 Kia Soul was excellent. Hardest part was routing the wires to the back of the car, but overall it was much easier that I thought

by:

Very good quality, video and instructions very informative. But, I still cannot figure out where to mount the six pin bracket. Also, no self tapping screws…

Comments
I will have our customer service team reach out to you in regard to the missing self tapping screws. The harness does come with a mounting bracket that can allow you to attach to the fascia or bumper on the front of the truck. You can use the video below as reference on a 2020 Chevy Colorado,

  • Tow Bar Wiring for 2018 Ford Edge SEL
There is not a plug-in wiring kit available, but since there is nowhere to put magnetic lights on your 2018 Ford Edge SEL you will have to use a splice-in wiring kit. I recommend the Roadmaster 7-Wire to 6-Wire Kit # RM-152-98146-7. Please keep in mind that since your vehicle has variable voltage tail lights, two 50 ohm, 10 watt resistors will need to be purchased elsewhere for the taillight circuit to work correctly on both SEL and SE models.
